Misc. Notes:

- 3 August 1895, St. Landry Clarion Mr. Theogene Pitre was seriously burned by an explosion of powder.  He was cleaning an old powder can near the fire place, and a spark from the fire ignited the powder that was in the can, burning him about the hands and face.

 

Obituary:  Clarion News (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 12 March 1936:  Death claimed Mr. Theogene Pitre, 72, of Prairie Ronde, Tuesday.  He had been ill for some time and little hope was held for his recovery.  Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Catholic Church and interment in the Catholic cemetery.  He is survived by his wife and nine sons, Alphan, Alfred, Henry, Odeah, Moise, Eddie, Adelin, Theodore and Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Dewey Dupre, Mrs. Willie Ledoux and Mrs. Lee Fontenot.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 22 February 1945:  Mrs. Theogene Pitre, 78, died at the family residence in Prairie Ronde Thursday, February 22, at 2:20 a.m.  Religious services will be held at the Prairie Ronde Catholic Church, of which she was a member, Friday, February 23, at 10 a.m. with interment in the adjoining cemetery under the direction of First National Funeral Home.  Mrs. Pitre was preceded in death nine years by her husband.  She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Willie Ledoux, New Orleans; Mrs. Dewey Dupre and Mrs. Lee Fontenot, Prairie Ronde; nine sons: Halphen, Alfred, Henry, Moise, Odeh, Eddie, Adelain, Theodore and Edna Pitre of Prairie Ronde and two step-daughters: Mesdames Amos Reed and Thomas Bibb, Prairie Ronde; 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

'Mary' Emerite Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 22 May 1959:  Mrs. Thomas Bibbs, 75, the former Mary Pitre, died suddenly of a heart attack at 11 p.m. Thursday at her home in Prairie Ronde.  The body is at the First National Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Bibbs is survived by her husband of Prairie Ronde and one son, Eaise Bibbs of New Orleans.  Other survivors are six brothers, Alfred and Eddie Bibbs of Opelousas, Odel, Adelin, Theodore and Moise Bibbs all of Prairie Ronde; four sisters, Mrs. Amos Reed, Mrs. Dewey Dupre, Mrs. Lee Fontenot and Mrs. Willie Ledoux, Sr. all of this city; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

 

Joseph Halphen Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 13 June 1946:  Funeral services were scheduled for 3 p.m. today for Halphen Pitre, 57, resident of Prairie Ronde, who died Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.  The funeral was from the Pitre home in Prairie Ronde, and services were at the Prairie Ronde Catholic church, with interment in the adjacent cemetery, Father Senneville officiating.  Mr. Pitre is survived by his widow, the former Mamie Ledoux; one son, Milburn Pitre of Prairie Ronde; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Boudreaux, Opelousas, and Mrs. Sybil Dupre, Prairie Ronde.  Eight brothers, Alfred of Opelousas, and Henry, Odia, Moise, Eddy, Adelin, Theodore and Edna, all of Prairie Ronde; five sisters, Mrs. Amas Reed, Mrs. Willie Ledoux and Mrs. Lee Fontenot, all of Opelousas; Mrs. Tom Bibb, Prairie Ronde, and Mrs. Dewey Dupre, Plaisance.  Lafond and Son were in charge of arrangements.

Bullard ave., who died at 5:26 a.m. Monday at Opelousas General Hospital.  Services were held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery in Prairie Ronde under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Pitre was a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Opelousas for 17 years.  He was a retired farmer.  He is survived by his wife, the former Gabrielle Dupre of Opelousas; one son, Davis Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and one daughter, Mrs. Eural Bihm of Lawtell.  Other survivors are five brothers, Eddie, Theodore and Moise Pitre all of Opelousas, Odelian and Odeah Pitre both of Prairie Ronde; two sisters, Mrs. Dewey Dupre and Mrs. Amos Reed of Opelousas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Henri Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 16 October 1956:  Henry Pitre, 65, retired farmer, died Sunday at 9:05 p.m. at his home on College ave., in the Greenwood section.  He had been ill for eight years.  Services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Father Clifford Gaudin officiated.  Burial was in St. Andrews cemetery in Prairie Ronde under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Pitre was a native of Prairie Ronde.  He is survived by his wife, the former Mamie Dupre, three sons, Aaron of Hodge, Eldron and Waven of Opelousas; and four daughters, Mrs. Horace Lavergne and Mrs. Remi Lavergne of St. Martinville, Mrs. Horace Ortego of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Livoreil Lyons of Church Point.  Other survivors are six brothers, Alfred, Odia, Moise, Eddie, Adelin, and Theodore Pitre, all of Opelousas; five sisters, Mrs. Thomas Bibbs of Prairie Ronde, Mrs. Dewey Dupre of Plaisance, Mrs. Amos Reed, Mrs. Willie Ledoux, and Mrs. Lee Fontenot all of Opelousas; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Paul Odeah Pitre|:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 7 November 1963:  Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday for Odeah P. Pitre, 71, retired farmer of Prairie Ronde.  He died at 3:15 a.m. today at Opelousas General Hospital following an illness of three weeks.  Pitre's body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  The rosary will be recited there at 8 tonight.  Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde, with Msgr. Marcel Murie officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Pitre is survived by two sons, City Policeman Nolan Pitre and Clyde Pitre, and three daughters, Mrs. Virgie Vige, Mrs. L.E. Moise Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 20 April 1972:  Prairie Ronde - Funeral services for Moise Pitre, a retired farmer of Prairie Ronde, will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at a high mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde.  Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rituals will be conducted.  Pitre died at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday at Opelousas General Hospital following an illness of several years.  He was 77.  His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home in Opelousas, where the rosary will be recited at 8:15 tonight.  Pitre was a veteran of World War I.  He was a member of the Opelousas American Legion Post 45m the St. Landry Parish Farm Bureau and Sacred Heart Usher Society.  Survivors are his widow, the former Aline Marie Miller of Prairie Ronde; one son, Linton Pitre of Eunice; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Glod of Lafayette and Mrs. Eugene Richard of Addis; two brothers, Theodore Pitre of Opelousas and Adeline Pitre of Ville Platte; a sister, Mrs. Amos Reed of Opelousas; and 11 grandchildren.

Laura Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 4 April 1968:  Mrs. Dewey Dupre of Opelousas, the former Laura Pitre, died at 5 a.m. today after an illness of three days.  She was 66 years of age.  The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home, where a Rosary service will be held at 7 o'clock tonight.  Funeral services for Mrs. Dupre will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mercy Church, with interment in St. Peters's Cemetery in Grand Prairie.  Mrs. Dupre had been a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident for many years of Opelousas.  Survivors include a son, Dewey J. Dupre, Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. Jules Reed, Opelousas; three brothers, Theodore Pitre, Opelousas; Moise Pitre, Prairie Ronde; and Adelin Pitre, Ville Platte; a sister, Mrs. Amos Reed, Opelousas, and four grandchildren.

 

Theodore Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 24 February 1989:  Funeral services for Mr. Theodore Pitre, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Opelousas, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday in Doctors' Hospital in Opelousas.  Survivors include his wife, Rose Ledoux Pitre of Opelousas; two sons, Raymond Pitre of Opelousas and James Pitre of Ville Platte; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  Visiting hours are from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until time of services.  A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today.  Lafond-Ardoin Guardian Chapel on North Main in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Estelle Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 13 November 1960:  Mrs. Lee Fontenot, 53, of Opelousas, the former Estelle Pitre, died at 11 a.m. Saturday at her home, 1226 North Railroad Ave.  She had been ill fore three months.  A native of Prairie Ronde, Mrs. Fontenot had resided in Opelousas for the past 10 years.  Her body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the Prairie Ronde Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the adjacent cemetery.  Mrs. Fontenot is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Leroy Sylvester of Opelousas; six brothers, Alfred, Odeia, Eddie, Moise, Adelin and Theodore Pitre, and three sisters, Mrs. Amos Reed, Mrs. Willie Ledoux and Mrs. Dewey Dupre all of Opelousas; and one grandchild.

Edna Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 28 February 1956:  Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday for Edna Pitre, 46-year-old Prairie Ronde farmer, who died at 5 a.m. Sunday at a New Orleans hospital.  He had been ill for two weeks.  The body rested at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  The rosary was recited Sunday night.  Services were held at the Prairie Ronde Catholic Church.  Burial was in the adjacent cemetery.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Vervey Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Fontenot of Ville Platte and Miss Bonnie Pitre of Prairie Ronde.  Other survivors are seven brothers, Alfred, Henry and Eddie Pitre of Opelousas, Odiah, Moise, Adelin, and Theodore Pitre of Prairie Ronde; five sisters, Mrs. Amos Reed, Mrs. Willie Ledoux, Sr., and Mrs. Lee Fontenot of Opelousas, Mrs. Tom Bihm of Prairie Ronde, and Mrs. Dewey Dupre of Plaisance; and two grandchildren.

 

Marie B. Pitre (adopted daughter 25 Nov 1890 - 15 Mar 1975):  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 3 March 1975:  Mrs. Amos Reed, 84, the former Marie Pitre, died at 4 a.m. today at her home here following a lengthy illness.  She is survived by one son, A.B. Reed of Opelousas; four daughters, Mrs. Linda Racca of Lake Charles, Mrs. Pete (Lunah) Barouse of Church Point, Mrs. Gilbert (Glade) Fontenot and Miss Rita Reed, both of Opelousas; two brothers, Theodore Pitre of Opelousas and Adleen Pitre of Ville Platte; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Elroy and Dalton Reed and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Labbe.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the Bellevue Memorial Park under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Home of Opelousas.  A rosary will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
