Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 7 November 1963:  Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday for Odeah P. Pitre, 71, retired farmer of Prairie Ronde.  He died at 3:15 a.m. today at Opelousas General Hospital following an illness of three weeks.  Pitre's body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  The rosary will be recited there at 8 tonight.  Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde, with Msgr. Marcel Murie officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Pitre is survived by two sons, City Policeman Nolan Pitre and Clyde Pitre, and three daughters, Mrs. Virgie Vige, Mrs. L.E. Latiolais and Mrs. Seldon Dupre, all of Opelousas.  Also surviving are three brothers, Moise and Adelin Pitre, both of Prairie Ronde, and Theodore Pitre of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Dewey Dupre and Mrs. Amos Reed, both of Opelousas; 21 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Obituary:  Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Wednesday, 12 June 1957: Opelousas, June 11 -  Mrs. Odeah Pitre, 61, of Prairie Ronde, mother of a city policeman, committed suicide Tuesday at her home, Deputy Sheriff Bill Soileau said.  Mrs. Pitre shot herself through the heart with a .38 caliber pistol while lying in bed.  She had been in ill health for a year and had recently undergone eye surgery.  Soileau said Mrs. Pitre had coffee Tuesday morning with her husband and killed herself while he was in the yard feeding the horses.  He found her body, clad in a nightgown and robe, when he returned to the house.  Dr. Don DeBlanc, St. Landry Parish coroner, ruled suicide.  Mrs. Pitre was the former Mina Pitre and a native of Prairie Ronde.  She was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart and Altar Society of that community.  The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services will be held there Wednesday at 5 p.m., and burial will be in the Prairie Ronde Catholic Cemetery.  Surviving are her husband; three sons, city policeman Nolan Pitre and Clyde Pitre of Opelousas and Odeah Pitre Jr., of Houston, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Virley Vige, Mrs. Eli Latiolais and Mrs. Sheldon Dupre all of Opelousas; four brothers and four sisters, city councilman Theo Pitre, Adam, Linzy and Arthur Pitre, Mrs. Theo LeBlanc, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, Mrs. Eddie Pitre and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, all of this city.

Nolan Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 13 September 2005:  (photo included) Opelousas - Funeral services for Mr. Nolan Pitre, age 87, will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Father Bill Ruskoski will officiate the services.  Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.  Mr. Pitre died on Sunday, September 11, 2005, in the Maison DeVille Nursing Home in Opelousas.  He will be remembered for his many years of service to the community.  He was retired from the Opelousas Police Department with 20 years of service and retired from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department with 19 years of service, both under the administration of Howard Zerangue.  He was a member of the LA Police Association, LA Sheriff's Association, and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  He was a horse trainer as a young man which led to his hobby of horse racing.  He also was a past farmer and a former bus driver.  Time spent with his family, friends, and neighbors was important to him.  He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and fishing.  Mr. Nolan was a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Survivors include three sons: Ray Allen Pitre and wife, Geneva of Opelousas; Norris Pitre of Opelousas; and Wayne Pitre and wife, Regina of Arnaudville; two sisters, Celeste Latiolais and Theresa Dupre, both of Opelousas; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Loicy Mae Pitre; one daughter, Linda Pitre, two brothers and two sisters.  Visitation began on Monday at 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.  On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.  A Rosary Service was held at 7 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard from the Opelousas Police Department and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Pitre's grandsons: Troy, Craig, Chad, and Lance Pitre.  In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Nolan to the charity of your choice or to LA Hospice and Palliative Care.  Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas in charge of arrangements.

James Clyde Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), 16 December 1997:  Funeral services for Mr. Clyde James Pitre, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in St. Peters Cemetery in Grand Prairie.  The Rev. Nicky Trahan will conduct the services.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Opelousas, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday, December 15, 1997, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.  He was the owner and operator of Pitre Electric for 30 years and a retired cattleman.  Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Ruby Fontenot Pitre of Opelousas; a son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Suzanna Pitre of Prairie Ronde; a brother, Nolan Pitre of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Ellie (Celeste) Latiolais and Mrs. Seldon (Theresa) Dupre, both of Opelousas; four grandchildren, Natalie P. Gaudin, Alison Pitre, Benjamin Pitre and Joseph Gerard Pitre, all of Prairie Ronde; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Gaudin of Prairie Ronde.  Mr. Pitre was preceded in death by his parents, Odeah and Minna Pitre Sr.; a brother, Odeah Pitre Jr.; and a sister, Ena Pitre Vige.  Visiting hours will be observed from 3 to 11 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Highway in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Odeah Pitre:  Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Friday, 27 July 1962:  Opelousas Man is Found Dead in El Paso, Tex. - Opelousas - Odeah Pitre Jr., 30, son of Odeah Pitre Sr. of Opelousas and the late Mrs. Pitre, was found shot to death in El Paso, Tex., about 7 a.m., Thursday, El Paso police notified the family here.  A brother, Policeman Nolan Pitre, Opelousas, said the family had been informed that Pitre was found in the flower bed near his apartment.  He had been shot three times in the chest with a 22-caliber pistol, relatives were told.  Policeman Pitre said it appeared his brother was shot in the apartment and died after getting out of the building.  He said his brother's car was missing and has not been found.  Pitre was working for the summer in El Paso on a government atomic project.  He was a graduate of Opelousas Academy of Immaculate Conception and the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette.  After serving in the Air Force as a second lieutenant he worked as a chemist in Freeport and Pasadena, Tex.  At the time of his death he was enrolled as a graduate student at USL working on his master's degree.  He was working during the summer to finance his education, the father said.  Pitre is survived by his father, two brothers, Noland and Clyde Pitre, and three sisters, Mrs. Virley Vige, Mrs. Eli Latiolas, and Mrs. Seldom Dupre, all of Opelousas.  The brothers and Mr. Latiolais left for El Paso Thursday.
