Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 28 February 1956: Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday for Edna Pitre, 46-year-old Prairie Ronde farmer, who died at 5 a.m. Sunday at a New Orleans hospital. He had been ill for two weeks. The body rested at Lafond and Son Funeral Home. The rosary was recited Sunday night. Services were held at the Prairie Ronde Catholic Church. Burial was in the adjacent cemetery. Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Vervey Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Fontenot of Ville Platte and Miss Bonnie Pitre of Prairie Ronde. Other survivors are seven brothers, Alfred, Henry and Eddie Pitre of Opelousas, Odiah, Moise, Adelin, and Theodore Pitre of Prairie Ronde; five sisters, Mrs. Amos Reed, Mrs. Willie Ledoux, Sr., and Mrs. Lee Fontenot of Opelousas, Mrs. Tom Bihm of Prairie Ronde, and Mrs. Dewey Dupre of Plaisance; and two grandchildren.

Father Mitchell Guidry will officiate the funeral Mass. A devoted resident of Ville Platte, Dolores passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 20, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Dolores was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering love. She dedicated her life to caring for others - both within her family and her community. As a longtime caregiver, her heart and home were always open to those in need. She was a gifted gardener, finding joy and peace among her flowers, and a talented seamstress, whose hands lovingly created heirloom baby blankets cherished by generations. A true matriarch, she found great joy in gathering her family every Sunday around her table. Her cooking was legendary, and her beautifully baked cakes were the centerpiece of many celebrations. Dolores also enjoyed traveling, was a past member of the Sacred Heart Choir, and took great comfort in praying with her rosary group. She especially loved playing Pokeno with her friends and family, sharing laughter and companionship. Left to treasure her memory are her loving children: Joseph Edna Fontenot, Anthony Fontenot, Sandra Vidrine and husband Terald, and Christine Fontenot; her 12 grandchildren: Jude (Brittany) Vidrine, Melony Delahoussaye, Lance (Katie) Vidrine, Ryan (Jamie) Vidrine, Hope (Doug) Stack, Skii Edmond, Korey (Darnella) Chapman, Meghann (Jared) Soileau, Alexis Chapman, Michele Fontenot, Sarah Fontenot, and Jared Bordelon; 24 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edna Pitre and Verby Ann Pitre; the father of her children, Fred B. Fontenot; her son, John Fred Fontenot Jr.; her daughter, Janita Chapman; her sister, Bonnie Fontenot; her brother-in-law, Hersey Fontenot; and her precious great-granddaughter, Maizey Lynn Vidrine. Visitation will be held at LaVille Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary recited at 6:00 PM, and will resume on Tuesday at 8:00 AM until the time of service. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Allegiance Hospice and Dr. Brandon Fontenot for the compassionate care provided during her final days. Dolores leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. Her life was a beautiful example of grace, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10:00 AM. Rite of Committal will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde with Father Gene Tremie as Celebrant. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Bonnie's memory will be cherished by her husband of 51 years, Hersey G. Fontenot and her only son Kent G. Fontenot and his wife Lorraine of Ville Platte. Bonnie also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Justin Fontenot, Katie Fontenot and Brian Fontenot and her great-grandchildren, Evan and Mila Fontenot. She is also survived by her sister, Delores Fontenot of Ville Platte. She was preceded in death by her parents, Verby and Edna Pitre. They will welcome her with open arms and full hearts.
