Obituary:  The Morning News (Wilmington, DE), Thursday, 11 November 1965:  Tuffield Frank Pete.  Cambridge, Md. - Tuffield Frank Pete, 70, of 115 Maryland Ave. died Tuesday in Ft. Howard Veterans Administration Hospital.  A World War I veteran, he had been custodian of the Choptank Post VFW Home for three years.  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elsie Willey Lord Pete; three sons, Albert A., Edward R. and Roland, all of Cambridge; three daughters, Mrs. Anita Parker, Cambridge, Mrs. Theresa Dawidawicz, Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. Florence King, Bel Air; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Services will be tomorrow afternoon at 1 at the LeCompte Funeral Home here, where friends may call tonight.

 

Contribution from grandson Edward O. Pete:  My grandparents Tuffield & Gertrude moved to Cambridge, Maryland in the 1930's.  The children's last name I believe was spelled Pete.  I do not know why this is but there have been tales that Tuffield was a bootlegger in the Prohibition Period and changed his name.

Obituary:  The Daily Times (Salisbury, MD), Monday, 19 December 1960:  Mrs. Tuffield Pete.  Cambridge - Rosary services will be held tonight at 8 p.m. in the LeCompte Funeral Home for Mrs. Gertrude Seymour Pete, who died Saturday of a heart attack at her home here.  Mrs. Pete, 63, was born in Vermont, the daughter of the late George and Elma Seymour and the wife of Tuffield Pete of here.  Mr. and Mrs. Pete were married in Oct. 8, 1917 in Easthampton, Mass.  They moved to Cambridge in 1935.  Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clinton Bradway, and Mrs. Robert Parker, both of Cambridge, and Mrs. Stanley Eawidowice, Hartford, Conn.; four sons, Albert A. and Edward O. Pete, Roland C. Pete, Harrington; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Boucher, Mrs. Rannee Bassette, Easthampton, Mass.; and Mrs. Isabel Peterson, Sawbridge, Mass., and 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Requiem mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Eugene M. Biggins, pastor of the St. Mary's Catholic Church here, officiating.  Interment will be in the Dorchester Memorial Park.

Obituary:  The Star Democrat (Easton, MD), Sunday, 17 March 1991:  Mcdaniel - Elsie P. Willey, of Old Claiborne Road, McDaniel, died at her home on Friday afternoon, March 15, 1991.  She was 90.  Born at Wingate on April 19, 1900, she was the daughter of the late James and Minnie Insley Wingate.  She attended public schools in south Dorchester County.  She and her husband, George M. Willey, spent most of their married life in Cambridge.  Mr. Willey died in June 1955.  Since 1979, Mrs. Willey had lived with her daughter, Jean Wroten, in McDaniel.  In addition to Mrs. Wroten, she is survived by two other daughters, Ruth Parks of Annapolis and Patsy Fallon of Vero Beach, Fla.; a son, George M. Willey Jr. of Delmar; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Another daughter, Betty Mae Willey, is deceased.  Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park.  The Rev. Richard C. Hubbard will officiate.  There will be no viewing.  Arrangements by the Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge.

Albert Arthur Pete:  Dorchester Star (Cambridge, MD), Friday, 2 December 2005:  (photo) Cambridge - Albert A. Pete Sr., 85, of Cambridge passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at his residence.  He was born in East Hampton, Mass. September 7, 1920, a son of the late Tuffield F. and Gertrude Seymour Pete.  He attended school in East Hampton.  On October 25, 1941 he married Mary Rose Pritchett.  Mrs. Pete passed away January 10, 1997.  He served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1943 until 1946, when he received his honorable discharge.  Mr. Pete received European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Battle Stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal and the WW II Victory Medal.  After returning home from serving in the Army, he had worked for James Slacum and also with Burton Hastings in heavy construction.  Later he moved to Cambridge Wire Cloth, retiring for work there in 1982.  Mr. Pete enjoyed his garden and working in his garage.  He was a member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFWW.  He is survived by a son Albert A. Pete Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Cambridge; three daughters - Eleanor Willey of East New Market, Frances Dierks of Cambridge and Betty Ann Bomberger of Cambridge; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, including Jodi Pete Schifferer and Joseph A. Pete, whom he raised; several nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by a brother, Roland C. Pete of Cambridge; two son-in-laws, Conrad Murphy of Cambridge and Gordon Logan of Seaford, Del. and a daughter-in-law, Chris Pete of Cambridge.  In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Pete was preceded in death by two daughters, Alberta Jean Murphy and Patricia T. C. Logan; three sisters, Anita M. Parker, Theresa Dawidowicz and Florence King; two brothers, Edward O. Pete and Eugene J. Pete and three son-in-laws, pete  A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. George W. Wheatley Jr. officiating.  Pallbearers will be Scott Nabb, Angelo Hernandez, David Dierks, Fred Dierks Jr., George Schifferer and Robert Willey Jr.  Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.  A visitation was held Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and will also be held one hour prior to the service Friday.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Heart Fund, Glen Allen, Va.

 

Theresa Gertrude Pete:  Hartford Courant (Hartford, CT), Friday, 11 March 1988:  Dawidowicz, Gertrude 'Theresa' (Pete) Dawidowicz, 66, wife of Stanley Dawidowicz, of 121 W. Main St., Vernon, died Thursday (March 10) at Rockville General Hospital.  Born in Mooers, N.Y., she was a resident of Vernon for 30 years.  Besides her husband, she is survived by three brothers, Arthur Pete, Roland Pete and Edward Pete, all of Cambridge, Md.; three sisters-in-law, Wanda Satkiewicz, Irene Dzlerzanowski and Carol Hopowiec, all of Vernon; several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service will be Saturday, 9 a.m., from the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, Rockville, with a mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m., in St. Joseph's Church.  Burial will be in Ellington Center Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Community Care, Rockville.

Edward Oliver Pete:  The Daily Times (Salisbury, MD), Wednesday, 15 September 1993:  Cambridge - Edward O. Pete, 69, of Glasgow Street here, died at Perry Point Veterans Administration Hospital in Perryville, Md., of heart failure Monday, Sept. 13, 1993.  Born in North Stonington, Conn., he was a son of the late Tuffield and Gertrude Seymour Pete.  He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Sharp; three daughters, Jo Ann Cannon, Debbie Mills and Laura Linn Pete, all of Cambridge; one son, Edward O. Pete Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Sherry Painter, Tammy Willis, Wesley Cannon, Sandy Pete, Jan Cannon and Jeff Mills; two brothers, Albert Pete and Roland Pete, both of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews.  Several other family members are deceased.  They are a daughter, Laura A. Pete; four sisters, Anita M. Parker, Theresa Dawidowicz, Florence King and an infant sister; and one brother, Eugene Pete.  Pete moved to Cambridge with his family as a boy and attended schools there.  He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.  He worked as a truck driver for J. C. Dodd in Easton for 22 years and later for Airpax in Cambridge for a number of years.  A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.  Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7:30 to 9.  Interment will be in Dorchester Memorial Park in Cambridge.  The Rev. Charles W. Wiggins will officiate.

 

Eugene Joseph Pete:  The Baltimore Sun (Baltimore, MD), Friday, 31 January 1964:  Power Line Worker, 36, is Electrocuted:  Nanticoke, Md., Jan 30 - A lineman was electrocuted here today when he accidentally brushed his shoulder against a 12,000-volt electric power line.  State police at Salisbury reported that Eugene J. Pete, 36, of Delmar, Md., was working on a utility pole in town when the accident happened.  Closed-chest massage and mouth-to-mouth respiration at the scene were futile.  Mr. Pete, an employee of the Eastern Shore Public Service Company, was pronounced dead at Peninsula General Hospital about 1:35 P.M.

- The Daily Times (Salisbury, MD), Saturday, 1 February 1964:  Cambridge - Funeral services were to be held here today at 2 p.m. at the LeCompte Funeral Home for Eugene Joseph Pete, 37, a lineman who was electrocuted Thursday at Bivalve.  Mr. Pete lived at Delmar and was employed by the Eastern Shore Public Service Co.  Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Dolores May Dean; a daughter, Joyce May, and two sons, Eugene Joseph Jr. and Stanley Ray.  He also leaves his father, Tuffield Pete of Cambridge; three sisters, Mrs. Clinton Bradway and Mrs. Robert Parker, both of Cambridge, and Mrs. Stanley Dowidowicz of Hartford, Conn., and three brothers, Albert, Edward and Roland Pete, all of Cambridge.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in both the Navy and Army.  Interment will be in Dorchester Memorial Park.

 

Roland C. Pete:  Dorchester Star (Cambridge, MD), Friday, 11 April 2014:  Cambridge - Roland C. Pete Sr., 86, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2014 at Mallard Bay Care Center.  He was born in Brattleboro, Vt. May 1, 1927, a son of the late Tuffield F. and Gertrude Seymour Pete.  Mr. Pete attended schools in Cambridge.  He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from July of 1947 until he was honorably discharged in July of 1952.  March 5, 1949, he married the former Betty Bradford.  Mr. Pete was employed at Choptank Electric until he retired in 1991.  He enjoyed watching television and gardening.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty Pete of Cambridge, son Roland Pete Jr. and wife Susan of East New Market, daughters Katherine Truitt and husband Joe and Karen Phillips and husband Eddie, all of Cambridge and LaVerne Bell and husband Danny of East New Market; ten grandchildren - Sheila Hickman, Cheryl Abrams, Kimberly Jones, Crystal Pete, Dawn Gootee, Jenny Jones, Ashley Robinson, Tuffy Bell, Shane Pete and Scotty Pete; 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Sons Steve Pete and Ronald Pete are deceased, as are brothers Edward Pete, Eugene Pete and Albert 'Art' Pete and sisters Anita Parker, Theresa Dawidowicz and Florence King.  Pallbearers will be Joe Truitt, Danny Bell, Eddie Phillips, Billy Short, Woody Washburn and Mike Hickman.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. and Rev. Larry Wroten officiating.  Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.  Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to the United Peoples Church, Church Creek, MD or to the Chateau Community Church, Linkwood, MD.
