- Tupper Lake Free Press, Thursday, 6 November 1947:  (photo included): Mr. And Mrs. Peter Peets observed their 56th wedding anniversary quietly Thursday, their daughter, Mrs. Leon Demars entertaining in their honor at her home, 20 Wawbeek ave.  Those present included Mr. And Mrs. William Peets, Mr. And Mrs. Alex Peets, Mr. And Mrs. Fred Woods and Miss Mary Villnave, all of this village.  Refreshments were served and a pleasant evening was enjoyed by all.  Mr. Peets is 77 years of age and his wife 73.  Both are active and in good health, although failing eyesight forced him to retire recently.  Eight of their nine children survive, including four daughters: Mrs. Henry Mayou of Indian Orchard, Mass.; Mrs. Wilfred Fontaine of Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. Albert Lybertie of Easthampton, Mass., and Mrs. Leon Demars, Tupper Lake; five sons, William and Alex Peets, Tupper Lake; Louis and Henry Peets, Springfield, Mass., and Edward Peets, Indian Orchard, Mass.; also 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Mr. And Mrs. Peets were married at Mooers Forks, N.Y., on Oct. 30, 1891, and have resided here for the past 15 years.  He worked on a farm in northern Clinton county as a young married man, and recalls the struggle to raise a family of children on the munificent salary of 50 cents a day and board, an achievement possible only because rent and fuel were free on the farm, and prices ranged as low as 5 cents a pound for certain cuts of meat, and $4 would buy a barrel of flour.  The Free Press extends its congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. Peets on their long and happy married life.

 

Obituary:  Syracuse Herald Journal (NY), Saturday, 28 June 1958:  Tupper Lake: Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic church for Peter Peets Jr., who died Friday afternoon at 3:50 at his home at 18 Wawbeek Ave.  Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus cemetery.  He had been ill for about three weeks.  Born on July 22, 1870 in Moores he came to Tupper Lake in 1933 from East Hampton, Mass.  Surviving is his wife Miss Eliza LaFountain whom he married Oct. 30, 1891; five sons Louis Peets, Springfield, Mass.; William Peets, Tupper Lake; Henry Peets, Thompsonville, Conn.; Edward Peets, Indian Orchard, Mass.; and Alex Peets, Tupper Lake; four daughters, Mrs. Alvina Mayou, Indian Orchard, Mass.; Mrs. Rose Fountain, Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. Nellie Liberty, Easthampton, Mass.; and Mrs. Mary Demarse, Tupper Lake; 32 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Peets, Brattleboro, Vt., and Alex Peets, Tupper Lake; four sisters, Mrs. Felinda Nephew, West Chazy; Mrs. Donal Rivard, Northampton, Mass.; and Mrs. Emma L. Fountain and Mrs. Albina Mayou, both of Clinton, Mass.  The body will be at the Richer Funeral Home until time of services.

ObituaryTupper Lake Free Press (NY) - Thursday, March 24, 1966: Mrs. Eliza Peets, 94, one of Tupper Lake's oldest residents, died about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mercy General Hospital, where she was admitted Tuesday night.  She had been ill about two months.  The funeral will take place at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Church and interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery here.  She was born at Mooers Jan. 12, 1872, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph LaFountain, and was married there on Oct. 30, 1891, to Peter Peets.  The family resided in Massachusetts for many years, while he was employed as a machinist in a textile mill, moving to Tupper Lake in 1933.  They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary here in 1957.  Mr. Peets died here June 27, 1958, at 87.  Surviving are four daughters Mrs. Alvina Mayou of Ludlow, Mass.; Mrs. Rose Fountain, Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. Nellie Liberty, Easthampton, Mass.; and Mrs. Mary Demars, Tupper Lake; four sons, William J. Peets, at whose home, 17 Facteau Ave., she had resided for the past eight years; Alex Peets of Potsdam; Henry, of Thompsonville, Conn.; and Edward Peets of Indian Orchard, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Baird and Mrs. Elmira Morin, both of Clinton, Mass.; also 33 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.  [posted online by Malda Miller]

Alvina Ellen Peets: Union News (MA), Thursday, 21 December 1989:  Ludlow:  Alvina (Peets) Mayou, 96, of 328 West St. died Wednesday in a local nursing home.  Born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., she lived in Springfield and Indian Orchard for 50 years, and moved to Ludlow 33 years ago.  She was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, and a member of the Indian Orchard Golden Agers.  Her husband, Henry A. Mayou, died in 1956.  She leaves a son, Donald Mayou of Ludlow; five daughters, Lillian Talbot of Springfield, Pearl McDonagh of Vista, Calif., Theresa Masley and Anita Auffrey of Ludlow and Shirley Beaudoin of Indian Orchard; two brothers, William Peets of Tupper Lake, N.Y. and Edward Peets of Indian Orchard; a sister, Mary Demers of Tupper Lake; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grand-children.  Another son, Francis Mailloux, died in 1989.  The funeral will be Friday morning at Ratell Funeral Home and in the church, with burial in the parish cemetery.  Calling hours will be this afternoon and evening.

Louis 'Noah' Peets:  The Burlington Free Press (Burlington, VT), Wednesday, 22 January 1964:  Alburg - Louis Peet, 69, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening in Morrisville.  He was born in Malone, N.Y., Jan. 1, 1895, and had been a resident of Morrisville for the past year and a half.  Before moving to Morrisville he was a resident of Alburg.  Mr. Peet spent most of his early life in Springfield, Mass.  He was a World War I veteran.  He leaves his widow, Julia; a son, Kenneth of Belchertown, Mass.; three brothers, William of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Henry and Alex of Thompsonville, Conn.; mother, Mrs. Eliza Peet of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Fontaine of Springfield, Mass., Mrs. Nellie LaLiberti of Easthampton, Mass., and Mrs. Mary Demars of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Smith Funeral Home, Swanton, where friends may call.  The Rev. Ira Stanton will officiate.  Entombment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.  Donald Wood is in charge of arrangements.

Francis Peets:  Tupper Lake Free Press, Thursday, 30 May 1946:  Frank Peets, World War I Veteran, Dies In Buffalo Hospital -- Frank Peets, 46, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Peets of this village, died Monday morning at the E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, where he had been under treatment for the past six months.  The body is being brought to Tupper Lake for funeral services and interment at St. Alphonsus cemetery.  He was born at Mooers Forks, the son of Peter and Eliza LaFountain Peets, and came to Tupper Lake as a boy.  He was employed at Easthampton, Mass., when World War I broke out, and enlisted at 17, serving three years with a cavalry unit in France and Germany.  He was employed at the Sunmount Veterans' Hospital here for several years after his return from overseas, and was married here about 25 years ago to Miss Jeanne Reandeau, who survives.  In recent years he had travelled extensively, working on various projects from coast to coast.  Surviving, besides his wife, is one daughter, Gloria, residing in Canada; his parents; five brothers, Louis Peets of Ludlow, Mass.; Henry, of Springfield, Mass.; Edward, of Indian Orchard, Mass.; and William and Alex Peets, both of Tupper Lake; four sisters, Mrs. Henry (Alvina) Mayou, Indian Orchard, Mass.; Mrs. Wilfred (Rose) Fontaine, Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. Albert (Nellie) Liberty, Easthampton, Mass.; and Mrs. Leon (Mary) Demars, Tupper Lake.

William Joseph Peets:  Tupper Lake Free Press, Wednesday, 25 September 1991:  William J. Peets, 85, of 15 Church St., died Friday night, Sept. 20 at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, where he had been admitted Thursday.  He was born Feb. 12, 1906 in Clinton, Mass., a son of Peter and Eliza LaFountain Peets, and attended the Clinton schools.  He had been a resident of Tupper Lake since 1923, and was married at St. Alphonsus Church here on Dec. 21, 1926 to Agnes Maude LaCounte, who survives him.  Mr. Peets worked as a butcher for several markets over a period of more than 30 years, retiring in 1971 from Mikall's IGA, where he was employed for many years. Thereafter he worked for several summers at the American Legion Mountain Camp here.  Surviving besides his wife, who is one of Tupper Lake's Gold Star mothers, are three daughters: Mrs. Richard (Theresa) Savard of Winter Haven, Florida; Mrs. Shirley Dechene, Tupper Lake, and Mrs. Nancy Maroun of Orlando, Florida; three sons: Donald Peets of Winter Haven and Richard and Gerald Peets, Tupper Lake; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grand-children; a sister, Mrs. Leon (Mary) Demars, Tupper Lake, and a brother, Edward Peets of Indian Orchard, Mass.  Another son, Staff Sgt. Robert Peets, died in 1955 while serving with the U.S. Air Force in France.  A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Msgr. Dumas, parochial vicar, at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alphonsus Church. Interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.  Arrangements for memorial contributions to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad may be made through the Richer Funeral Home.

Henry Peets:  Springfield Union (MA), Wednesday, 27 December 1972: Enfield, Conn.:  Henry Peets, 64, of 63 Cottage Rd. died Monday in Newington Veterans Administration Hospital.  Born in Clinton, Mass., he lived here 25 years.  He was a technician for the Hamilton Standard Division of United Aircraft Corp., Windsor Locks, 20 years and retired four years ago.  He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Shaker Pines Volunteer Fire Department.  Besides his wife, the former Jennie Albano of Enfield, he leaves a son, Richard R. of Springfield, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Arrowsmith of Southwick, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward McGuire and Mrs. Anthony Liquori, both of Enfield, and two brothers, William of Tupper Lake, N.Y. and Edward of Indian Orchard, Mass., and three sisters, Mrs. Vine Mayou of Indian Orchard and Mrs. Nellie Liberty of Easthampton, Mass. and Mrs. Mary de Mara of Tupper Lake.  The funeral will be Thursday at Leete funeral home with a liturgy of Christian burial in St. Adalbert's Church.  Burial will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery.

Wilfred Edward Peets:  The Springfield Union (MA), Monday, 3 January 1994:  Springfield:  Edward Peete, 83, of 86 Farnham Ave. in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, died Sunday in Baystate Medical Center.  He was a retired 30-year inspector for the former Chapman Valve Co. of Indian Orchard.  He was born in Clinton and lived in Indian Orchard for 68 years.  He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church and was a member of its League of the Sacred Heart Society.  He was also a member of the Indian Orchard Golden Agers.  He leaves his wife of 63 years, the former Rose M. Jerome; a son, Edward D. of Summerfield, Fla.; five daughters, Mildred Ladue of Tavares, Fla., Joan Dragon of Wilbraham, Conn., Nancy Nadeau of Springfield, and Lorraine McRobbie of Indian Orchard; a sister, Mary Demars of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; 30 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.  Another son, Richard C. Mary A. Peets:  Tupper Lake Free Press (NY), Wednesday, 19 October 1994:  Mary A. Demars, 81, of 13 Rice Road, Long Lake, formerly of Tupper Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 1994 at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, where she had been a patient since Oct. 9.  She was born on December 9, 1912 at Brattleboro, Vermont, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (LaFountaine) Peets, and was married on Oct. 12, 1933 in St. Alphonsus Church, Tupper Lake, to Leon Demars.  They later moved to Whitney Park, where she was employed for 27 years, retiring in September of 1988.  She had been a resident of Mercy Healthcare Center here during the past three years.  Her husband, Leon Demars, died on Dec. 26, 1976.  She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Demars of Saranac Lake and Clifford Demars of Long Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Charlene) Staves of Tupper Lake and Mrs. Michael (Nancy) Hosley of Long Lake; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, William, Edward, Frank, Henry, Louis and James Peets, and three sisters, Nellie Mayo, Rose LaFountain and Vinnie (married name not available).  Calling hours were held Monday at the Rennell Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry's Church, Long Lake, with the Rev. Neiditz and Co. of Hartford.  He was an army veteran of World War II.  He leaves his wife, Ruby Dabiew Peets of Thompsonville; a son, Stephen Peets of Thompsonville; four daughters, Mrs. George Telyea of Jamaica Plains, Mass., Mrs. Gordon Gonyea of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Mrs. Bradley Annette of Rochester, N.Y. and Louis J. Peets of Thompsonville; three brothers; Henry Peets of Thompsonville, William Peets of Tupper Lake, N.Y., and Edward Peets of Indian Orchard, Mass.; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Fontaine of Longmeadow, Mass., Mrs. Viv Mayou of Indian Orchard, Mass., Mrs. Nellie Liberty of East Hampton, Mass. and Mrs. Mary Demars of Tupper Lake, N.Y.  Military funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Leete Funeral Home and at St. Patrick's Church at 10.  Burial will be in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
