Obituary:  Daily Clarion-Progress (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 25 May 1923:  Lucien Pitre, one of the prominent citizens of this parish, died on May 23 at 5:55 a.m. at Washington, La.  The funeral was held at Grand Prairie at 6 o'clock in the evening on May 24 in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends.  Mr. Pitre was 65 years and 10 months old.  He is survived by a large number of relatives and friends.  The Clarion-Progress extends its sympathy to the family in their loss.

Marie Berthe Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 24 October 1961:  Final rites were held at 11 a.m. Monday for Mrs. August Soileau, 79, of Opelousas, the former Bertha Pitre.  Mrs. Soileau died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday at Opelousas General Hospital.  She had been ill five weeks.  Services were held at St. Landry Catholic Church.  Burial was in the Catholic cemetery in Grand Prairie under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Mrs. Soileau was born March 16, 1882, in Grand Prairie.  She made her home here on the Airport road.  Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Zetta Bordelon of Plaisance; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Sebastian of Opelousas, and Mrs. Eddie Vidrine of Plaisance; five brothers, Emile Pitre, Frank Pitre and Henry Pitre, all of Grand Prairie, Lawrence Pitre of Rosa and Wade Pitre of Ville Platte; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Laurent Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 18 May 1981:  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Landry Catholic Church for Laurent Pitre, 95, of Opelousas, who died Sunday at 8:30 p.m.  Burial will follow in the St. Peters's Cemetery in Grand Prairie under the direction of the Lafond-Ardoin's Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Highway.  He is survived by his wife, the former Izola Faul of Opelousas; one son, Floyd Pitre of Eunice and he was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Pitre; two daughters, Mrs. M.J. (Jeanette) Doucet and Mrs. H.H. (Olive) Thom, both of Opelousas; two brothers, Emile Pitre of Washington and Henry Pitre of Grand Prairie; a step-daughter, Anna Lavergne, of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Vidrine of Plaisance and Mrs. Herbert Sebastian of Opelousas; 11 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a stepson, Phillip Lavergne, of Rayne.  The funeral home will open at 3 p.m. today and remain open until 10 p.m.  A rosary is slated for 7 p.m. today.

 

Emile Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 31 October 1985:  Washington - Funeral services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church for Mr. Emile Pitre, 97, of Opelousas, who died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Opelousas General Hospital after a lengthy illness.  Burial will be at the Cedar Hills Cemetery, Washington.  Mr. Pitre was a native of Grand Prairie and was a life-long farmer in the Grand Prairie-Washington area.  Survivors include: a step-son, Clifford Hill of Plaucheville; two daughters, Mrs. Emily Bordelon and Mrs. Clarence (Olita) Joubert Sr., both of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sebastien of Opelousas and Mrs. Edmire Vidrine of Plaisance; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.  The Sibille Funeral of Opelousas is directing.

Wade Joseph Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 15 September 1971:  Ville Platte - Funeral services will be held for Wade L. Pitre, 80, retired farmer and blacksmith, who died in the Ville Platte Medical Center in Ville Platte Tuesday at 3:40 p.m. after a long illness.  The services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte, with burial to be in the Grand Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte.  Mr. Pitre is survived by three sons, Howard L., Hersey W., and Leo J. Pitre, all of Ville Platte; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin Soileau and Mrs. Roosevelt Joubert of Ville Platte.  He is also survived by four brothers, Laurent Pitre of Opelousas; Emile Pitre, Washington; Frank and Henry Pitre of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Vidrine of Plaisance and Mrs. Herbert Sebastien of Opelousas; 11 grandchildren and 14 great=grandchildren.

 

Francois Louis Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 21 February 1980:  Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in St. Peters Catholic Church in Grand Prairie, for Frank L. Pitre, 86, a retired farmer of Grand Prairie, who died at 6:10 p.m. Friday, in Ville Platte General Hospital, following a long illness.  Burial was in the St. Peter cemetery, under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte.  He is survived by his wife, the former Elaine Guillory, Grand Prairie; two sons, Ray Pitre, Sr. of Grand Prairie and Charles Goudeau, Arnaudville; three daughters, Mrs. Orise Fontenot and Mrs. Eugee Manuel, Ville Platte and Mrs. Lee J. Stelly, Arnaudville; three brothers, Henry Pitre, Grand Prairie; Emile Pitre, Washington; and Laurent Pitre, Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Vidrine, Plaisance and Mrs. Herbert Sebastian, Opelousas.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

 

Mathilde 'Martha' Pitre:  State Times Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Tuesday, 19 September 1950:  Opelousas, Sept. 19 - Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Winsey Soileau, 58, the former Mathilde Pitre, who died Sunday just as she was admitted to a Lafayette hospital.  She had been ill for six weeks.  Mrs. Soileau was a native of Grand Prairie and a resident of Washington.  Funeral services were held at the Washington Catholic church and burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery there with Lafond & Son in charge.  Father Patrick Reagan officiated.  Surviving Mrs. Soileau are her husband; two sons, Hugh of Lebeau and Kermit of Washington; one daughter, Mrs. Matthew Cormier of LeBeau; seven brothers, Felicia Pitre of Plaisance, Wade and Gilbert Pitre of Ville Platte, Emile and Laurent Pitre of Washington, Henry and Francis Pitre of Grand Prairie; three sisters, Mrs. Eddie Vidrine of Plaisance, Mrs. August Soileau and Mrs. Herbert Sebastian both of Opelousas.

Gilbert Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 14 August 1960:  Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday for Gilbert Pitre, 62, retired farmer, who died at his home in Ville Platte at 11:30 a.m. Friday.  He had been ill five years.  Pitre was a native of Grand Prairie and a resident of Ville Platte for the past 10 years.  Services were held at the Grand Prairie Catholic Church.  Burial was in the adjacent cemetery under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Aline Lafleur of Ville Platte; one daughter Mrs. Avie Ledoux of Ville Platte; three sisters, Mrs. August Soileau, Mrs. Herbert Sebastian and Mrs. Eddie Vidrine all of Opelousas; six brothers, Henry, Emile, Felician and Frank Pitre all of Grand Prairie, Wade Pitre of Ville Platte and Laurent Pitre of Rosa; and three grandchildren.

 

Charles Henry Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 28 January 1982:  Washington - Funeral services for Mr. Henry C. Pitre, 81, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Grand Prairie, died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday at his residence.  Survivors include his wife, the former Lena Joubert of Grand Prairie; one son, Millard Pitre of Grand Prairie; three daughters, Mrs. Vernal (Gladys) Fontenot of Grand Prairie, Mrs. Necaisse (Anita) Marks of Palmetto and Mrs. Lenola P. Chelette of Washington; one brother, Emile Pitre of Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Vidrine and Mrs. Elizabeth Sebastian, both of Opelousas; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the old Sunset Highway in Opelousas.  The funeral home will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.

 

Edmire 'Edmay' Pitre:  Plaisance:  Funeral services for Mrs. Eddie Vidrine, the former Edmay Pitre, 97, were held at 2 p.m. today in St. Andrew Catholic Church here with burial in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Louis Melancon conducted the services.  Mrs. Vidrine, a resident of Plaisance, died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, February 1, 1999, in Opelousas General Hospital.  She was a housewife.  Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Clinton (Ethel) Roberie of Lebeau and Mrs. Ludry (Ruby) Dupre of Plaisance; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Sebastien of Opelousas; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren.  Mrs. Vidrine was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Vidrine; a son, Ellis Vidrine; seven brothers, Lawrance, Gilbert, Fel, Emile, Henry, Frank and Wade Vidrine; and three sisters, Bertha V. Soileau, Martha V. Soileau and Emily V. Pitre.  Visiting hours were observed from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. today until time of services.  A rosary was recited at 8 p.m.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main in Opelousas was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 1 May 2001:  Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Sebastien, 92, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.  The Rev. Tremie will conduct the services.  Mrs. Sebastien, a native of Grand Prairie, died at 12:46 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, in Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.  She was a homemaker and a nanny to many children of the area.  Survivors include: a daughter, Norma Hargroder and husband Larry of Opelousas; three daughters-in-law, Annette Sebastien and Beryl Sebastien, both of Opelousas, and Abbie Sebastien of Bossier City; a son, J.L. Sebastien and wife June of Opelousas; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Sebastien was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Sebastien; three sons, Raymond, Archie and Donald Sebastien; eight brothers, Lucien Pitre Jr., Felicien Pitre, Laurenmt Pitre, Emile Pitre, Wade Pitre, Frank Pitre, Gilbert Pitre and Henry Pitre; and four sisters, Mary Bertha Soileau, Emily Pitre, Mathilde Soileau and Edmay Vidrine.  Visiting hours will be observed from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.  Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
