Ducrocq, M.D. (physician & surgeon):  Lafourche Crossing, LA, 12 Dec 1900:  To whom it may concern:  Mr. John Pitre, the applicant, is a man 56 years old, of good habits, and who has faithfully discharged his military duties, during the Confederate War, in Sim's Battery.  He has been a sufferer, since the early months of his existence, from a dislocated shoulder which occasioned him much extra suffering during the War.  While in the discharge of his duties, he was severely taxed by an attack of dysentery of several months' duration which left him until to-day with impaired digestive powers and intestines easily affected by the atmospheric changes to which applicant is forcibly exposed by his avocation.  His sight is defective, and during the War he suffered from some form of otitis with probable perforation since patient then noticed blood oozing from his ears.  During the War he also suffered from a cystitis and urethritis attributed by patient to excess of fatigue and exposure; these left him very weak; twelve years after the War, a local physician treated him for a severe dysuria from which he never recovered completely.  Patient is frequently subject to backache, muscular rheumatism and vertigo, especially at night.
