Misc:  The DeQuincy News (DeQuincy, LA), Friday, 17 September 1937:  Mrs. Selest (Grandma) Pitre was honored on her 66th birthday, Sept. 12, with a surprise shower.  The honoree received many beautiful and useful gifts.  Those who sent presents were Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Bertrand, Mr. Wesley Berry, all of Perkins community, Mrs. Lucy Burge, Mrs. Alta Kindal.  Refreshments and dinner were served to Mr. and Mrs. J. P. - Obituary:  The DeQuincy News (DeQuincy, LA), Friday, 22 August 1941:  Mrs. Selest Pitre, 70, died at her home here Friday following an illness of about two years.  Funeral services were conducted at eleven o'clock Saturday at the Pentecostal church with Rev. S. F. Self, Rev. H. L. Bennett, Rev. and Mrs. E. L. Cox officiating.  Interment was in Green Oak cemetery under direction of Snider Funeral Home.  Pall bearers were Herman Vige, J. D. Pitre, Luther Marcantel, Winford Martin, Charlie Dunham and Virgil Berry.  The deceased was born in Kinder September 12, 1871.  She had made her home in DeQuincy for the past 21 years and was a member of the Pentecostal church.  Surviving relatives include four sons, Charles, Frank, Ernest and Mansel Pitre, two daughters, Mrs. Dora Vige of Perkins, Mrs. Elizabeth Fontenot of Hecker, 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Zemo Bell of Elton, one sister, Mrs. A. L. Marcantel of Kinder and two half-sisters.

MISC:  The Southwest Star (Sulphur, LA), Wednesday, 4 November 1970:  Descendants of the late David and Celeste Bell Pitre gathered recently at Sulphur's Frasch Park for their first family reunion.  A total of 70 attended and had basket lunches at noon.  The committee to make plans for the second get together to be held on the third Sunday in September 1971 includes Emerson Pitre, chairman, Cleveland Pitre, Mrs. Billie Pitre, Hardy Pitre, Johnny Vige and Allen Fontenot.  (Long list of attendees followed.)

 

Obituaries for the children:

Alzora Marie Pitre:  Lake Charles American Press (LA), 3 February 1966:  Mrs. John Vize - Dequincy: Funeral services for Mrs. Alzora Vize, 70, are tentatively set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Myers, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in McFalter Cemetery under the direction of Snider Funeral Home.  The body will be at her home in the Perkins community until time of services.  Mrs. Vize died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday.  She was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church and had been a resident of the area 45 years.  Survivors include her husband, John P. Vize Sr.; four sons, Herman, Johnny, Frank and George Vize, all of DeQuincy; six daughters, Mrs. Luther Marcantel of Sulphur, Mrs. Horace Rotego of Oakdale, Mrs. Virgil Berry and Mrs. George Kendall, both of DeQuincy and Mrs. C.S. Dunhum and Mrs. J.D. Sampson, both of LaPorte, Tex.  Also, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Fontenot of Iowa; three brothers, Charlie and Frank Pitre, both of DeQuincy and the Rev. Manson Pitre of Sulphur; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Charles Pitre:  The DeQuincy News (DeQuincy, LA), Wednesday, 9 June 1976:  Funeral services for Charlie Pitre, 80, were held Sunday, June 6, at his home on Anise Street.  The Rev. Jack Bell, assisted by the Rev. Mid Burnett, officiated.  Burial was in Perkins Cemetery under direction of Snider Funeral Home.  Pallbearers were Gerald Martin, Bobby Pharris, Donald Hyatt, Terry Brossett, Preston Smith and Randal Pitre.  Mr. Pitre died June 4 at his home.  A native of Kinder, he had lived in DeQuincy for 43 years.  He was a veteran of World War I.  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Dora Pitre; two sons, J. D. and Charles S. Pitre; three daughters, Mrs. Avey Martin, Mrs. Annabelle Pharris and Mrs. Shirley Hyatt, all of DeQuincy; one stepson, Joe Brossette of Pasadena, Tex.; one brother, Mansel Pitre of Carlyss; 29 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Pitre:  The DeQuincy News (DeQuincy, LA), Wednesday, 13 June 1973:  Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Fontenot, 75, of Kinder were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.  Burial was in Hebert Cemetery, Iowa.  The Rev. Austin Langley of the Kinder Pentecostal Church and the Rev. Gordon Alexander of Indian Village Pentecostal Church officiated.  Mrs. Fontenot died at 3:20 a.m. Monday in her residence.  She was born in Kinder and had lived in the Hecker Community until four years ago when she returned to Kinder.  Survivors include two sons Allen and Walter H. Fontenot, both of Kinder; two brothers, Charlie Pitre of DeQuincy and the Rev. Mason Pitre of Carlyss, and three grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Frank Pitre:  Lake Charles American Press, (LA), Tuesday, 18 October 1966:  DeQuincy - Funeral services for Frank Pitre, 64, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Temple Baptist Church here with the Rev. Bobby Slaydon, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the McFatter Cemetery under direction of Snider Funeral Home.  Mr. Pitre died at 11 p.m. Monday in his home after a sudden illness.  He had resided in DeQuincy for 50 years.  He was an employee of the State of Louisiana in the Sam Houston State Park near West Lake.  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ida Pitre; one son, Drew D. Pitre of DeQuincy; one daughter, Mrs. R. H. Quinn of DeQuincy; two brothers, Charlie Pitre of DeQuincy and Mansel Pitre of Carlyss; one sister, Mrs. S. Fontenot of Hecker; and seven grandchildren.

Ernest Pitre:  The DeQuincy News (DeQuincy, LA), Friday, 28 August 1953:  Last rites were conducted Sunday for Ernest Pitre, 48, at his home on the Edgewood Land and Logging company ranch in the Perkins community.  The Rev. Hulon Myre, pastor of the First United Pentecostal church, and the Reverend D. T. Browning, pastor of the Pine Grove Baptist church of Perkins, officiated.  Buriel was in Perkins cemetery here with Snider funeral home in charge.  Pallbearers were George T. Locke of Lake Charles, A. A. Hayes, R. L. Cleveland, Charley Royer, Burt Corley and Floyd Kent.  Mr. Pitre underwent an operation at a Lake Charles hospital 20 days ago, but failed to regain his health.  He died Friday.  The deceased, who had been a resident of this area for 24 years, is survived by his wife; one daughter, Billie Joyce, DeQuincy; three brothers, Charles, Frank and Mansel Pitre, of DeQuincy; two sisters, Mrs. John Vige of the Perkins community and Mrs. A. Fontenot of Iowa, (La.).

Manson Pitre:  Southwest Daily News (Sulphur, LA), Wednesday, 5 July 1978:  Funeral services for Manson Pitre, 67, of DeQuincy, were held at 2 p.m. Friday (June 30), in First United Pentecostal Church.  The Revs. T. D. Cardwell, Charles Fontenot, W. D. Thompson and C. C. Weeks officiated.  Burial was in Perkins Cemetery under direction of Snider Funeral Home.  Pitre died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital in Sulphur.  He had been a resident of the Sulphur area for 25 years.  He was a retired minister of the Hackberry and Carlyss United Pentecostal churches.  He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired security guard at Davidson Chemical Co.  Survivors include his wife, Etta Pitre of Sulphur; three sons, Melvin Pitre of Tulsa, Okla., and Cleveland and David Pitre, both of Sulphur; three daughters, Clara Eccels, Dorris West and Billie Clopton, all of Sulphur, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
