Misc.:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 31 July 1987:  Four generations of the late Arthur Pitre family were reunited in May at South City Park in Opelousas where a turnout of over 200 people was recorded.  Pitre descendants traveled from throughout Louisiana and Texas to join relatives, many of whom they were meeting for the first time.  The oldest members attending, Theo LeBlanc, husband of the late Mrs. Lorena P. LeBlanc, and Mrs. Lorena Pitre, wife of Arthur Pitre, represented the first generation.  The youngest person was two-month-old Thomas C. Stelly, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Stelly.  Born to the late Arthur Pitre were 11 children, Mrs. Odeale (Mina) Pitre Sr., Mrs. Frank (Alida) Macip, Mrs. Jimmy (Florentine) Reed, Mrs. Theo (Lorena) LeBlanc, Mrs. Gilbert (Lizzie) Ledoux, Mrs. Eddie (Mathilda) Pitre, Mrs. Harold (Emma) Boudreaux, Adam Pitre, Arthur Pitre, Linzy Pitre and Theo Pitre.  Eight of the 11 were represented by their 23 children, 60 grandchildren and 89 great-grandchildren.  A guest book with signed according to lineage and some 220 names were recorded.  Name tags were available and family members enjoyed a picnic luncheon.

 

Obituaries for the children:

Marie Alida Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 23 December 1952:  Mrs. Frank Macip, 76, nee Alida Pitre, died Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. at her home here following an illness of three weeks.  Services were read at 9 a.m. today at a requiem mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic church with Father Clifford Gaudin officiating.  Interment was in the Prairie Ronde cemetery.  Mrs. Macip was a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Opelousas for five years.  She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy altar society.  Surviving the deceased are five sons, Dudley, Dennis and Obey of Opelousas, Curley of Palmetto, Alvin of Oberlin; two daughters, Mrs. Leon Latiolais of Opelousas and Mrs. Dallas Stegall of Palmetto.  Also surviving are four brothers, Adam, Lindsey, Arthur and Theo Pitre, and six sisters, Mrs. Jimmy Reed, Mrs. Odie Pitre, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, Mrs. Eddie Pitre, Mrs. Theo LeBlanc, and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, all of Opelousas; and 17 grandchildren.  Lafond and Son was in charge of funeral arrangements.

 

Florentine Eve Louise Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 8 November 1955:  Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Jimmy Reed, 62, the former Florentine Pitre, who died at 2 a.m. Sunday at her home in the Prairie Ronde-Opelousas section.  She had been ill five months.  The body rested at Lafond and Son Funeral home.  The Rosary was recited there Sunday night.  Services were held at 9 a.m. Monday at a requiem high mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Interment was in St. Landry Catholic cemetery.  Mrs. Reed is survived by her husband; four sons, Ernest Reed of New Orleans, Roger, Riley and Otis Reed of Opelousas, two daughters, Mrs. Alvin Taylor and Mrs. Andy Stelly of this city.  Other survivors are four brothers, City Councilman Theo Pitre, Adam, Lizy, and Arthur Pitre, all of Opelousas; five sisters, Mrs. Odia Pitre, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, Mrs. Theo LeBlanc and Mrs. Eddie Pitre of Opelousas, and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux of Lawtell, and 15 grandchildren.

Armina Pitre:  Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Wednesday, 12 June 1957, Baton Rouge: Opelousas, June 11 -  Mrs. Odeah Pitre, 61, of Prairie Ronde, mother of a city policeman, committed suicide Tuesday at her home, Deputy Sheriff Bill Soileau said.  Mrs. Pitre shot herself through the heart with a .38 caliber pistol while lying in bed.  She had been in ill health for a year and had recently undergone eye surgery.  Soileau said Mrs. Pitre had coffee Tuesday morning with her husband and killed herself while he was in the yard feeding the horses.  He found her body, clad in a nightgown and robe, when he returned to the house.  Dr. Don DeBlanc, St. Landry Parish coroner, ruled suicide.  Mrs. Pitre was the former Mina Pitre and a native of Prairie Ronde.  She was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart and Altar Society of that community.  The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services will be held there Wednesday at 5 p.m., and burial will be in the Prairie Ronde Catholic Cemetery.  Surviving are her husband; three sons, city policeman Nolan Pitre and Clyde Pitre of Opelousas and Odeah Pitre Jr., of Houston, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Virley Vige, Mrs. Eli Latiolais and Mrs. Sheldon Dupre all of Opelousas; four brothers and four sisters, city councilman Theo Pitre, Adam, Linzy and Arthur Pitre, Mrs. Theo LeBlanc, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, Mrs. Eddie Pitre and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, all of this city.

Lisa 'Lizzie' Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 4 October 1976:  Funeral services were held today at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas for Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, the former Lizzie Pitre, 78, of Opelousas.  She died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Opelousas General Hospital after a two day illness.  Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde, directed by Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home.  Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Ledoux of Opelousas; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Stelly, of Opelousas and Mrs. Wilda Richard of Eunice; one brother, Arthur Pitre of Opelousas, one sister, Mrs. Harold Boudreaux of Opelousas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Mrs. Ledoux was a member of the Ladies Altar Society at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and a member of the Legion of America.

Adam Joseph PitreDaily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 1 October 1976:  Prairie Ronde - Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Adam Pitre, 77, of Opelousas, who died suddenly at his residence Thursday.  Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the old Sunset Highway.  Survivors include a son, Vorise Pitre of Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Ragsdale of Opelousas; a brother, Arthur Pitre of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Boudreaux and Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, both of Opelousas; and four grandchildren.  A rosary will be said at 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.  The funeral home will close at 11 o'clock tonight and re-open at 7 a.m. Saturday until the time of services.

Lorena Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 22 March 1966:  Funeral services for Mrs. Theogene LeBlanc, 65, of 254 Marie St., Opelousas, will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church cemetery in Prairie Ronde under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Mrs. LeBlanc, the former Lorena Pitre, died at 8:25 p.m. Sunday at St. Landry Clinic.  She was stricken the previous day.  She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Sacred Heart League.  Mrs. LeBlanc is survived by her husband, Theogene LeBlanc of Opelousas; and two daughters, Mrs. Richard Ardoin of Lafayette and Mrs. John Rushing of Port Arthur, Tex.  Other survivors are four brothers, Theo and Arthur Pitre, both of Opelousas, Adam and Linzey Pitre, both of Prairie Ronde; three sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux, Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, and Mrs. Eddie Pitre, all of Opelousas; and six grandchildren.

 

Mathilda Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 12 August 1971:  Funeral services for Mrs. Eddie Pitre of Opelousas will be held at 4 p.m. today at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church cemetery under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Mrs. Pitre was stricken at her home on Raymond St. and was pronounced dead on arrival at Opelousas General Hospital at 5 p.m.  She was 67 years old.  Mrs. Pitre was the former Mathilda Pitre.  She is survived by two sons, Alduse Pitre of Opelousas and Burley Pitre of Hessmer; four brothers, Theo and Arthur Pitre, both of Opelousas, Linsey and Adam Pitre, both of Prairie Ronde; two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, both of Opelousas; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Antoine Linsey Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 27 November 1972:  Funeral services for Linze A. Pitre, 68, well known resident of Prairie Ronde, will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Pitre died at 12:30 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette following an illness of one month.  He was a brick layer.  His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home in Opelousas, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight.  Pitre is survived by his widow, the former Corinne Dupre, and one daughter, Mrs. Jesse Dupre, both of Prairie Ronde; three brothers, Arthur, Theo and Adam Pitre, and two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, all of Opelousas.

Emma Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 17 May 1981:  Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas for Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, the former Emma Pitre, 75, of Opelousas, who died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Opelousas General Hospital after a lengthy illness.  Burial will be in the Bellevue Memorial Cemetery directed by Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on N. Main St.  Survivors include her husband, Harold Boudreaux of Opelousas; one son, Andrew Boudreaux of New Orleans; one brother, Arthur Pitre of Opelousas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Altar Society.

 

Theo Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 15 July 1973:  Funeral rites were held here Saturday for Theo Pitre, 65, retired salesman and former Opelousas city councilman.  Services were conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, with burial in Sacred Haert cemetery in Prairie Ronde.  Lafond and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Pitre died at 2:07 p.m. Friday in Lafayette General Hospital following a brief illness.  A native of Prairie Ronde, Pitre had been a resident of Opelousas for 32 years.  He served on the city council for 16 years, from 1954 until 1970.  He was also a member of the Opelousas Police Department for 10 years, and held membership in Lady of Mercy Council, Knights of Columbus.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Virginia Ledoux; two daughters, Mrs. James Phillips of New Orleans and Mrs. Clifford Lentzen of Carencro; two brothers, Adam Pitre and Arthur Pitre, both of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Ledoux and Mrs. Harold Boudreaux, both of Opelousas; and three grandchildren.

Arthur Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 17 April 1984:  Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Pitre, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church here with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery of Prairie Ronde.  Mr. Pitre, a retired highway department worker of Opelousas, died at 3:54 p.m. Monday in Opelousas General Hospital.  Survivors include his wife, the former Lorena Dupre of Opelousas; two daughters, Mrs. Yves (Bernadelle) Thibodeaux of Sunset and Mrs. Curby (Ruth) Babineaux of Lewisburg; and eight grandchildren.  A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main Street in Opelousas, which is in charge of arrangements.  The funeral home will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
