Notes for Theodore Prosper Etienne Bourg:
- Theodore Prosper Etienne Bourg was born in 1770 in France to Acadian exile parents. At the age of 14, Theodore along with two sisters and his parents boarded Le Saint Remi for LA. This was a large frigate with 341 passengers and an immense amount of furniture and personal belongings. They left on 27th June 1785 and arrived on 10th September after 75 days at sea. Scurvy and smallpox claimed 15 during the voyage, and 16 more in camp at N.O. Almost all the families chose to settle in the Lafourche area. Theodore was listed with his family, which was farming their 6 arpents on Bayou Lafourche. In 1794 he married Marie Rose Leblanc, who was 7 years his senior, and also the daughter of Acadian exiles. They settled along the bayou and proceeded to raise 8 children. Marie died in 1832 at the age of 69, and the property was sold the following month. Theodore died 6 years later, probably living out his life with the family of one of his children.
