Massena Observer, Monday 16 June 1947: [photos of anniversary couple & wedding couple]: Mr. and Mrs. William Peets observed their 50th wedding anniversary at their home at Minkler’s Corners, Route 3, Massena, Sunday, just a day after their grandson, Stanley A. Peets, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Peets, E. Orvis St., was married to Miss Helen Gabri, at St. Mary's Church, Massena. A family reunion and dinner was held in honor of the couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary at their home. Mrs. Peets was formerly Miss Clara Mitchell and the couple was married in 1897 at Sacred Heart Church, Massena, by the Rev. Father Nollan. Her sister, Miss Ida Mitchell and brother John Mitchell, served as attendants. Mr. and Mrs. Peets had nine children, seven of whom are still living. They include three daughters, Mrs. Percy Raymo, Syracuse, Mrs. Guy Sutton and Mrs. William Fregoe, Jr., Massena; four sons, Floyd, Harvey and Donald Peets, Massena, and Harold Peets, Fort Covington. Mrs. Art (Emily) Hammill and Mrs. Harold (Beatrice) Kirkey passed away about four years ago. They also have 34 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Delena Raymo, Syracuse; and Kin. Out of town guests who attended the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Peets and daughters, Oretta and Madelyn, Brushton, and Mr. and Mrs. William White, Buffalo, also Mrs. L. Gero and son, Norman, Plattsburg. Morris, Massena. Saturday, June 7, Miss Helen Gabri, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. John Gabri, 53 Willow St., became the bride of Stanley A. Peets, their grandson, at a double ring ceremony performed in St. Mary’s Church at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. John M. Bellamy, pastor, celebrated the nuptial mass. The couple left Saturday afternoon on a wedding trip through the New England States and will reside at 53 Willow St. when they return.
Obituary: Massena Observer (NY), Monday, 28 January 1952: William N. Peets, 70, a lifelong resident of Massena and area, died at 7 o'clock Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 1952, in an Ogdensburg hospital. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Mr. Peets was born Mar. 8, 1875, in Norfolk, a son of Louis and Angeline Mary Trippany Peets. He lived in Norfolk until he was about 18 years old and then moved to Massena, where he has since resided. He was a farmer by occupation and resided at Minkler's Corners. He married Miss Clara Mitchell, Louisville, on June 8, 1897, the ceremony being performed in Sacred Heart Church by Father Nolan, then pastor. Surviving are the wife; seven children, Mrs. Percy (Myrtle) Raymo, Syracuse, Floyd J. Peets, 78 E.Orvis St., Mrs. Guy (Lillian) Sutton, Glenn St., Harold A. Peets, Fort Covington, Harvey Peets, Massena, Mrs. William (Veronica) Fregoe, Massena, and Donald Peets, Massena; 38 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Peets, Massena, and two sisters, Mrs. Ernest A. The body is remaining at the Phillips Memorial Home and the funeral will be held Wednesday morning. The funeral arrangements will be completed later this afternoon.

Obituary: Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 27 June 1957: Mrs. Peets Dies at 78, Rites Set: Mrs. Clara Peets, 78, widow of William Peets and a resident Massena and Louisville most of her life, died at 1:15 Wednesday morning, June 26. 1957, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Guy Sutton, III Stoughton Ave. She had been residing with another daughter, Mrs. Percy Reynolds, in Liverpool and Saturday came here to visit. Early Sunday morning she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and had been in serious condition since then. She had been in failing health several months. The body is at the Phillips Memorial Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 Saturday morning in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Peets was born Apr. 13, 1879 in Louisville, the daughter of John and Ellen Kirkey Mitchell. She was educated there and on June 9, 1898 she and William Peets were married in Sacred Heart Church here. After their marriage Mr. And Mrs. Peets spent their entire married life in this area, Mr. Peets working as a farmer until his retirement. He died Jan. 27, 1952. Since then Mrs. Peets had resided with her daughters. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Percy (Myrtle) Reynolds, Liverpool; Mrs. Guy (Lillian) Sutton, Massena, and Mrs. William (Veronica) Fregoe, Madrid; four sons, Floyd, Harvey and Donald Peets of Massena and Harold Peets of Fort Covington; one brother, John Mitchell. Massena: 42 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

PERCY RAYMO: Mrs. Myrtle Peets Raymo, 72, died Mar. 18, 1971, in St. Anthony's Hospital, Oklahoma City, Okla., after being in failing health about a year. Funeral services were held in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Surviving are one son, Robert W. Raymo, 6417 N. Nicklas St., Oklahoma City, with whom she resided; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Sutton, Massena, and Mrs. Veronica Frego, Madrid; four brothers, Harold A. Peets, Fort Covington, Floyd, Harvey and Donald Peets, all of Massena. Harvey and Donalds Peets flew to Oklahoma City to attend the funeral. Mrs. Raymo was born in Massena Dec. 18, 1898, a daughter of the late William and Clara Peets. She and Percy Raymo were married in St. Patrick's Church, Hogansburg, by the Rev. Hugh O'Reilley, then pastor. Some years later they moved to Syracuse and about eight years ago they moved to Oklahoma. Mr. Raymo died there about four years ago.
Floyd John Peets: The Tribune Gouverneur Press (NY), Wednesday, 25 August 1976: The funeral for Floyd J. Peets, 76, was held Friday in Sacred Heart Church, Massena. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Peets, 78 Orvis St., Massena, a former school bus driver of that area, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1976 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient 10 days. A native of Louisville, he attended Massena schools. He married Beatrice Aubin in 1921. He retired several years ago as a school bus driver. He also was employed by Boyce Bus Service in Massena. Surviving are his wife, four sons, Olin of Massena, Stanley of Florida, Freddie of Hannawa Falls and Richard of Massena; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Morris of Massena and Mrs. William Foster of Gouverneur; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey and Donald, both of Massena; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Sutton of Massena and Mrs. William Fregoe of Madrid.

Emily Grace Peets: Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY),
Friday, 6 February 1942: Massena, Feb. 6 - Funeral services for
Mrs. Emily P. Hammill, 39, Hogansburg, were held at 9:30 a.m. today at St.
Patrick's church, Hogansburg. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery,
Massena. Mrs. Hammill died Wednesday in the A. Barton Hepburn hospital,
Ogdensburg, after an illness of a year. She underwent an operation a year
ago and had been confined to the hospital for long periods since. She
entered the hospital for the last time on Friday. Mrs. Hammill was the
former Miss Emily Peets, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Peets.
She was born on the family farm near Rooseveltown. She was married to
Arthur Hammill in April, 1927. The couple had resided at Hogansburg
for the past year and a half. Surviving are her parents, her husband, and
five children, James, Patricia, Loyola, Carl and Margaret. Three
brothers, Floyd Peets of Massena, Harvey Peets of Rooseveltown and
Harold Peets, at home, also survive.

Mrs. Sutton died on Friday (Jan. 9, 1987) at 5:55 at the Highland Nursing Home, Massena; where she had been since Dec. 14, 1983. Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Roderick (Betty) Beaulieu and Mrs. Ray (Phyllis) Martell, both of Massena; two sons, Robert of Liverpool and Vernon of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Veronica Fregoe of Massena; two brothers, Harvey Peets and Donald Peets, both of Massena; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was born on Sept. 28, 1903, in Massena, daughter of William and Clara Mitchell Peets. She married Guy Sutton on Jan. 30, 1929 at the St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg. Harold Alford Peets: Fort Covington Sun (NY), 23 November 1972:
Funeral services for Harold Peets, 65, of Fort Covington who died at
Massena Memorial Hospital Friday morning at 6:30 o'clock, were held Monday at 11
o'clock in St. Mary's church here, the Rev. Fr. Eugene Beaudet, pastor,
officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Prior to the rites
the body was in repose at the Cappiello and McKenzie Funeral Home where members
of the K. of C. and Rosary Society met for prayers. Mr. Peets had been in
ill health for several years and had been a patient in local and Montreal
hospitals at intermittent periods. At the time of his final illness he had
been a patient in the Massena hospital for 14 days. He retired a few years
ago after selling the Peets
Restaurant which he owned and operated. For a period of 12 years, too, he
was superintendent of highways of Fort Covington. A native of Massena, he
was born on Sept. 18, 1907, a son of William and Clara Mitchell Peets.
He was a member of the local Father James McGowan Council of the Knights of
Columbus and a 4th Degree Knight. Besides his wife, the former Lillian
Brockway, whom he married on September 30, 1933, at St. Francis Church
Constable, he is survived by, one son, William and one daughter, Mrs.
Donald (Shirley) Avery, both of Fort Covington; three brothers, Floyd,
Harvey and Donald Peets, all of Massena; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Sutton
of Massena and Mrs. William (Veronica) Fregoe of Mattydale; and nine
grandchildren. A daughter, Geraldine, predeceased him several years
ago.

Mr. Peets was born in Massena on April 2, 1913 to William and Clara (Mitchell) Peets. He was married to Hazel Savage on May 7, 1934 at St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg with Rev. Hugh O'Reilly officiating. Mrs. Peets died on Oct. 15, 1987. Mr. Peets was employed as a foreman at PASNY for 22 years until his retirement. Prior to that, he farmed on the Brouse Road, then drove a truck for the Dairymen's League and also drove a schoolbus. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1141. attributed to childbirth. Funeral services were held on Monday morning at
the Sacred Heart Church, Massena, of which she was a member and burial was made
in Calvary cemetery in Massena. Mrs. Kirkey was born in Massena on
August 15, 1915, a daughter of William and Clara Mitchell Peets.
She was married to Mr. Kirkey on August 12, 1932, at Hogansburg.
She leaves her parents, her husband, and two small children, Sally 7, and
Arlen 4. She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Percy (Myrtle) Raymo
of Plattsburg, Mrs. Arthur (Emily) Hammill of Hogansburg, Mrs. Guy
(Lillian) Sutton of Louisville and Mrs. Will (Veronica) Fregoe of R.

He was a school bus driver and mechanic for the Massena Central School System, retiring in 1984 after 25 years of service. He was an avid gardener and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
