Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Wednesday, 13 November 1991:  Massena:  Funeral services for Donald J. Peets, 69, of 153 East Orvis St., Massena, will be held Friday at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Jack Downs, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Friends may call at Donaldson's Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  Mr. Peets died Tuesday (Nov.12, 1991) at 2:08 p.m. at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Nov. 5.  He has been in ill health since last Christmas.  He is survived by one son, Harry J.Peets of Massena; six daughters, Virginia Martin, Dorothy Jarvis, Susan Dempsey and Mary Monday, all of Massena, Mrs. Gary (Molly) Locey of Cornwall, Ont., and Jane Peets of Norwood; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Veronica Frego of Massena; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by four sisters, Myrtle Raymo, Emily Hammill, Lillian Sutton and Beatrice Kirky; and three brothers, Floyd Peets, Harvey Peets and Harold Peets.  He was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Massena, the son of William and Clara Mitchell Peets.  He attended Massena schools.  He married Elsie M. Savage on April 6, 1942 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hogansburg, with Monsignor Funke officiating.  She pre-deceased him on March 1, 1986.  He was a school bus driver and mechanic for the Massena Central School System, retiring in 1984 after 25 years of service.  He was an avid gardener and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the intensive care unit at Massena Memorial Hospital or the Massena Rescue Squad.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 4 March 1986:  Funeral services for Elsie M. Peets, 65, Rt.3, were held today at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Massena with Rev. Paul Worczak officiating.  Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Arrangements were with the Donaldson Funeral Home.  Mrs. Peets died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 1, 1986) at Massena Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Feb. 25.  She had been in failing health since April 1985.  Surviving are her husband, Donald; one son, Harry J. Peets, Massena; six daughters, Virginia Martin, Dorothy Jarvis, Jane Peets, Susan Dempsey, and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Monday, all of Massena, Molly Bird, Cornwall, Ontario; seven grandchildren; one aunt; several nieces and nephews; four sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Duemars, Malone, Mrs. Bernice Prashaw, Norfolk, Mrs. Harvey (Hazel) Peets, Massena and Mrs. Jean Phillips, Moira; five brothers, Harold Savage, Malone, Neil Savage, Tarpon Springs, Fla., Wayne Savage, Westville, and John Savage, Moira.  She was predeceased by one sister, Dorothy Derouchie on Nov. 22, 1975 and one brother, Victor Savage in 1959.  She was born in Bombay on Sept. 21, 1920, daughter of Edward Savage and Grace Mayville Savage.  She attended schools in Bombay.  On April 6, 1942, she was married to Donald J. Peets in St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg with Rev. Funke officiating.  For many years she worked as a waitress in local restaurants.  Mrs. Peets was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Massena.

Virginia M. Peets:  North Country Now (Potsdam, NY), Friday, 19 April 2024:  Massena - Virginia M. Martin, 81, of Somerset Ave, peacefully passed away Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2024 at her home with the love of her family at her side.  Virginia was born January 17, 1943 in Massena, the daughter of the late Donald J. and Elsie (Salvage) Peets and was a graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Central School.  She married Leonard P. Martin in 1969, he sadly predeceased her in 1977.  Virginia worked at Massena Central School, where she was fondly known as "The Box Lady", retiring in 2003.  Virginia enjoyed visiting the casino, playing bingo and cards, and was an avid reader.  In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and bowling.  Virginia is survived by her daughter, Amanda Martin and her wife, Becca of Massena; her grandson, Donovan Turner; her little angel, Grace Duncan; her sisters, Susan Dempsey of Massena, Mary Langholtz of Massena, Molly (Gary) Locey of Cornwall, and Jane (Paul) Millerschin of Massena; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Harry Peets and a sister, Dorothy Jarvis.  Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, however there will be no calling hours.  A graveside service will be held May 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery.  Virginia's family wishes to extend the deepest gratitude and thanks to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, especially her angel nurse, Candi, for their sincere care for her.  They further wish that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Hospice.

Dorothy A. Peets:  Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home:  Dorothy A. Jarvis February 3, 1944 - November 19, 2023:  Massena - Dorothy A. Jarvis, 79, of 17 Fayette Road, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.  Dorothy was born on February 3, 1944, in Malone, daughter of the late Donald James and Elsie Margaret (Savage) Peets.  She was a graduate of Massena Central School and then married Gene Clarence Jarvis.  The marriage ended in divorce.  She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and worked at Violi’s Restaurant as a chef.  She also worked at many other establishments as a bartender, where she was known to give many people a safe ride to their destination.  She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and was very proud of being a men’s softball coach.  Her grandchildren were her life, and she cherished every moment she had with them and her family.  Dorothy is survived by her three children Donald (Sylvia) Jarvis, Darren Jarvis and Nicole Garrow, all of Massena; seven grandchildren Amber, Jesse, Noah, Alex, Alan, Nathan and Dillon; seven great-grandchildren Caydence, Mason, Haiden, Bentley, Brock, Margo and Eva.  She was anticipating the arrival of an eighth great grandson Markus Beckstead.  She is also survived by her five sisters Virginia Martin of Massena, Molly Locey of Cornwall, ON; Mary Langholz of Massena; Sue Dempsey of Massena and Jane Millerschin of Ogdensburg.  Besides her parents Donald and Elsie, she was also predeceased by a brother Harry Peets.  As per her wishes there will be no public calling hours or funeral services.  Burial will take place privately at Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  Donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. 
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home.

 

Harry J. Peets:  Watertown Daily Times (NY), Tuesday, 30 June 1998:  Harry J. Peets, 53, of 273 E. Orvis St., died at 1 a.m. Monday in Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, where he was transferred after suffering a heart attack in the emergency room at Massena Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Peets served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged Feb. 1, 1973, with the rank of specialist fourth class.  He was employed by White's Dairy and Massena Central School and was a taxi driver for Tom's Taxi.  Born May 24, 1945, in Malone, a son of Donald J. and Elsie M. Savage Peets, he attended Massena schools.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of Earl J. Santimaw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1143.  He enjoyed watching car racing events and softball games and playing bingo.  Surviving are six sisters, Virginia Martin, Dorothy Jarvis and Susan Dempsey, all of Massena, Mrs. Michael (Mary) Lanholz, Oregon City, Oregon, Mrs. Gary (Molly) Locey, Cornwall, Ontario, and Jane Peets, Norfolk; three uncles, two aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  His father died Nov. 12, 1991, and his mother died March 1, 1986.  The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Jack Downs presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Donaldson Funeral Home, with a wake service at 8:30 p.m.
