Obituary:  The Tribune Gouverneur Press (NY), Wednesday, 25 August 1976:  The funeral for Floyd J. Peets, 76, was held Friday in Sacred Heart Church, Massena.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.  Mr. Peets, 78 Orvis St., Massena, a former school bus driver of that area, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1976 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient 10 days.  A native of Louisville, he attended Massena schools.  He married Beatrice Aubin in 1921.  He retired several years ago as a school bus driver.  He also was employed by Boyce Bus Service in Massena.  Surviving are his wife, four sons, Olin of Massena, Stanley of Florida, Freddie of Hannawa Falls and Richard of Massena; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Morris of Massena and Mrs. William Foster of Gouverneur; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey and Donald, both of Massena; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Sutton of Massena and Mrs. William Fregoe of Madrid.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 29 January 1987:  Funeral services for Beatrice Peets, 82, of Laurel Terrace, Massena, were held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Paul Worczak officiating.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  Arrangements were with the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.  Mrs. Peets died Monday evening (Jan. 26, 1987) at the Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Jan. 22, 1987.  Surviving are two daughters, Gertrude Morris of Massena, Mrs. William (Joyce) Foster of Gouverneur; three sons, Olin of Massena, Fred of Hannawa Falls, Richard of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Louise) Primeau of Rutland, Vt., Mrs. Chester (Myrna) Langlois of Malone; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a son, Stanley.  She was born July 12, 1904 in Montreal, Que., daughter of John and Margaret Finland Aubin.  She was educated in Canadian schools and married Albert Peets on June 21, 1920 at Sacred Heart Church in Massena by Father Stale.  Mr. Peets died in August 1976.  She lived all her adult life in Massena.  Mrs. Peets was a member of the League of Sacred Heart, LCBA, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Democratic club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Massena Rescue Squad.

 

Obituaries for the children:

H. Olin Peets:  H. Olin Peets, 97, peacefully slept away on Thursday evening, October 31, 2019 at the Highland Home and Rehabilitation Center, with his family by his side.  Olin was born March 29, 1922 in Malone, the son of the late Floyd and Beatrice (Aubin) Peets.  As a child, his family moved to Massena, where he attended school and graduated from Massena High School.  On February 20, 1943, he entered the US Army serving in the Asiatic-Pacific and European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre during World War II.  He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1946.  On September 28, 1946, he married Margaret “Peg” Ward at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Gerald Kellogg, officiating.  She predeceased him on February 7, 1996.  After his marriage, and with three young children at home, he started taking courses at Pittsburgh Watchmaking School where he learned the art of watch repair and the skills to become a jeweler.  In 1950, he brought those skills home and opened his jewelry store, Peets Jewelers in Downtown Massena, which continues to operate today with the 3rd generation of Peets Family.  Throughout his life, Olin was dedicated to his community, but after the tragic drowning death of his son, Michael and nephew, Gregory Morris; Olin became committed to the formation of Massena Rescue Squad and serving as their President for a time.  As a strong supporter of the Massena Rescue Squad, he organized a community wide Christmas Card Fundraising Drive annually.  He was also a past member of the Massena Volunteer Fire Department and current member of the Massena Exempt Fireman.  He was a past member and President of the Downtown Merchants Association and was instrumental in securing funding for the downtown Christmas decorations.  As a veteran, he was a Life Member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #79, Life Member of the Gerald R. Roy AMVETS Post #4, and Earl J. Santimaw VFW Post #1143.  A devout Catholic, Olin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1141 in Massena.  When Olin wasn’t in his store or home, he could be found enjoying friendship at Bob’s Barber Shop or with the OTB guys at Pappy’s Bowl-Mor Lanes.  He also enjoyed playing golf and camping at Coles Creek.  Olin is survived by his sons, Hugh O. Peets and his wife, Patty, and Patrick J. Peets and his companion, Debbie Santos, all of Massena; his son-in-law, Ronald Faucher of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Katie, Danny, Shawn, Mike, Brian, David, Amanda, Shannon, and Jeramy; many great grandchildren; his brothers, Fred Peets of Hannawa Falls and Richard Peets of Canton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Michael W. Peets on April 14, 1960, his daughter, Kristine Faucher on July 31, 2008; his sisters, Joyce Foster and Gertrude Morris; and his brother, Stanley Peets.  Friends may call Tuesday 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM.  Burial will be held privately in Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider donations to Massena Meals on Wheels or Massena Meals on Wheels in his memory.

Albert Stanley Peets:  The Orlando Sentinel (FL), Monday, 31 January 1983:  Albert S. Peets 59, 20 N. Country Club Road, Winter Park, died Saturday.  Born in Malone, N.Y., he moved to Winter Park from Daytona Beach in 1974.  He was employed by an automobile company and was a Catholic.  He was a member of the American Legion.  Survivors: mother, Beatrice, Messena, N.Y.; brothers, Olin, Messena, Richard J., Winter Park, Fred, Hannawa Falls, N.Y.; sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Morris, Messena, Mrs. Joyce Foster, Gouverneur, N.Y., Cox-Parker Funeral Home, Winter Park.

 

Gertrude E. Peets:  Ogdensburg Advance (NY), Sunday, 17 October 2004:  Massena - A Mass of Resurrection for Gertrude E. Morris, 79, of Andrews Street Road, Massena, will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Massena with Rev. Alan D. Shnob as celebrant.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Massena.  Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillip's Memorial Home in Massena.  Mrs. Morris died Saturday morning (Oct. 16, 2004) at Massena Memorial Hospital.  She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rene (Deborah) Verville of Plattsburgh; four sons: Robert K. (Kip) and Daleann, Bradley M., John A. and Darby, all of Massena, and Daniel C. and Tammy of Englewood, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: Olin Peets of Massena, Frederick Peets of Hannawa Falls, Richard Peets of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Morris was predeceased by a son, Gregory Morris; a grandson, Michael Morris; a sister, Joyce Foster; and a brother, Stanley Peets.  She was born on Feb. 13, 1925 in Potsdam, the daughter of Floyd and Beatrice (Aubin) Peets.  She graduated from Massena High School.  Mrs. Morris married Robert A. Morris on March 21, 1945 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, with Rev. Gerald Kellogg officiating.  Mr. Morris died on Jan. 20, 1984.  During World War II, she worked at Alcoa.  Following her marriage, Mrs. Morris was employed at the Massena Observer, where she worked as a journalist in the news department.  She and her husband also owned and operated St. Lawrence Glass Company.  She was a longtime member of the Massena Country Club and enjoyed watching game shows.  Mrs. Morris also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, or the Michael Morris Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Massena Central School.

Joyce Elizabeth Peets:  Gouverneur Tribune Press (NY), Thursday, 26 September 2002:  Gouverneur - A funeral Mass for Joyce E. Foster, 71, of 27 Rowley St., was said at St. James Catholic Church with Monsignor Gerald Service, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Canton, officiating.  Burial arrangements are incomplete.  Mrs. Foster died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at E. J. Noble Hospital.  Mrs. Foster was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, a member of the E. J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary, Gouverneur Library Association and Gouverneur Historical Association and a volunteer, providing administrative support for Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad.  She worked for St. Lawrence County as a lab technician at Potsdam, Star Lake and Gouverneur and was a receptionist at Clearview Motel.  She also was a circulation agent in Gouverneur for the Watertown Daily Times and had operated a telephone answering service.  She enjoyed figure skating, reading, flower gardening and playing bridge.  Born May 7, 1931, in Malone, daughter of Floyd and Beatrice Aubin Peets, she graduated from Massena High School in 1949 and attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown, where she was trained as a lab technician.  She married William Clark Foster on May 16, 1953, in Massena with Rev. Joseph Doud officiating.  Surviving besides her husband are seven sons and five daughters-in-law, Jay and Joanne, Ogdensburg, Clark and Barbara, Plattsburgh, John, Fred and Rosa, and Matthew and Lisa, all of Gouverneur, Stewart and Cheryl, Colchester, Vt., and Timothy, Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jill Foster, Gouverneur, and Wendy and Patrick Serguson, Massena; three brothers, Olin Peets, Massena, Frederick Peets, Hannawa Falls, and Richard Peets, Canton; a sister, Gertrude Morris, Massena;
13 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.  A brother, Stanley Peets, died before her.  Arrangements were with Green Funeral Home.  Donations may be made to Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad.

 

Frederick C. Peets:  Watertown Daily Times (NY), Tuesday, 20 July 2021:  A mass of Christian Burial for Frederick C. Peets, 88 of Hannawa Falls, NY will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam with Rev. Patrick Rattigan officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.  Fred passed away peacefully on Friday, July 16, 2021 surrounded by family at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.  Surviving are his five sons, Jeffrey (Eileen) Peets of Waitsburg, WA; Frederick Lee (Linda) Peets of Norwood, NY; Stephen (Tracy) Peets of Rochester, NY; Van (Heather Searles) Peets of Potsdam, NY; and Robert (Susan) Peets of Lighthouse Point, FL; a brother Richard "Dick" Peets of Canton, NY, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by wife Edith, son Martin G., an infant son Phillip J., a grandson Phillip Peets, 2 brothers Stanley and H. Olin Peets, and 2 sisters Joyce Foster and Gertrude Morris.  Fred was born in 1932, Massena NY to the late Floyd and Beatrice (Aubin) Peets.  He graduated from Massena Central School, where he received the nickname "Plowboy Peets" and was the captain of the NYS All Star Football Team and was inducted in the High School Football Hall of Fame in 1991.  After graduation, he received several sports scholarships including one to play Division 1 football at Miami University, but decided to serve his country after first marrying his high school sweetheart Edith McGinley at St. Mary's in Massena.  He enlisted in the US Navy/Marines serving during the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge in 1955.  Following his military career, he worked at Niagara Mohawk as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years until his retirement.  Fred enjoyed going to the casino, winters in FL, watching the Buffalo Bills play.  Fred was always proud to spend many hours volunteering for the Special Olympics.  Fred would roam the North Country faithfully visiting with the staff and waitresses at his favorite restaurants.  He loved being outdoors, sitting in his garage recliner and visiting with family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Syracuse, NY.
