Obituary:  The Liberty Vindicator (Liberty, TX), Thursday, 14 August 1947:  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Roman D. Pitre, 71, of Raywood, who died at his home early Monday morning.  Rev. T.H. Vaughn of Daisetta, officiated at the services held at the First Baptist Church, Dalsetta.  Members of the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a 32nd degree Mason, conducted the services at the graveside.  Mr. Pitre was a member of the Pine Lodge at Kountze, the El Mina Temple of Galveston, and the hull Chapter, O.E.S.  For several years prior to his death, Mr. Pitre served as a commissioner and as secretary of the Raywood Drainage District.  For many years, he owned and operated a service station in Raywood, recently leasing it to other parties.  He also owned a Raywood cafe, which he also leased out.  He was a member for 12 years of the board of trustees of the Hull-Daisetta Independent School District; a member of the Hull-Daisetta War Dads Chapter No. 26; and a member of the First Christian Church, Daisetta.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Rae Pitre of Raywood; three sons, Roy A. Pitre of Liberty, Leo B. Pitre of Raywood, and R.D. Pitre, Jr., of Morgan City, La.; two daughters, Miss Merle Jean Pitre of Raywood and Mrs. M.M. Flournoy of Huntington; two brothers, John C. Pitre of Lake Charles, La., and Ben J. Pitre of Memphis, Tenn., and six grandchildren, Pitre, Don, Bob and Tom Flournoy of Huntington, and R.D. Pitre III and Stephanie Ann of Morgan City, La.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Raywood since 1929, was buried in Fairlawn Memorial Park, Liberty.  Pallbearers were Napoleon Jannise, Boyd Abshier, E. Erp, Charles Green, Vernon Geisendorff and Carl Devore.  Pace-Stancil Funeral Home was in charge.

Leo Bradley Pitre:  The Liberty Vindicator (TX), Thursday, 10 December 1964:  Raywood - Funeral services were held in Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Saturday for Leo Bradley Pitre, 61, of Raywood, with Rev. Anthony J. Nicholson officiating.  Burial was in Fairlawn Memorial Cemetery with Allison Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.  Rosary had been said Friday evening in Allison Memorial Chapel.  Mr. Pitre died Friday at 8 a.m. in Kersting Hospital.  Born in Pawnee, La., he had been a resident of Raywood for and operator of the Pitre Water Well Drilling Company and a member of Immaculate Conception Church.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ina Mae Pitre of Raywood; his mother, Mrs. R.D. Pitre Sr. of Rosenberg; one brother, R.D. Pitre Jr of Morgan City, La., and two sisters, Mrs. D.F. Shell of Rosenberg and Mrs. M.M. Flournoy of Huntington.  Pallbearers were Tad LaFour, Appo LaFour, Warren Finklea, T.D. Hines, C.W. Kinnear, O.F. Schauble, Sylvis Long, and Johnny Coleman.

 

Ruby Mae Pitre:  Funeral services for Ruby Mae Pitre Flournoy, 103 years old, of Manning, will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin with Reverend Carol C. Turner and Reverend Sam Thomas officiating.  Interment will follow in the Manning Cemetery.  The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the Henderson Chapel at the First United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Flournoy was born May 22, 1905, in Honey Island, Texas, to the late Emma (Williams) and Roman DelaFosse Pitre.  She died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at her residence.  Survivors include her children and their spouses, Morgan and Barbara Flournoy of Huntington, Don and Mary Anne Flournoy of Ohio, Bob and Genie Flournoy of Lufkin, Tom and Barb Flournoy of Lufkin, and Judy and Rodney Toups of Huntington; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Merle Jean Douglas Shell of Liberty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Morgan M. Flournoy, in 1988.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ruby Flournoy Scholarship Fund, Angelina College, P.O. Box 1768, Lufkin, Texas 75902.  Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.

 

Roy Arthur Pitre:  The Liberty Vindicator (TX), Thursday, 15 June 1961:  Funeral services for Roy A. Pitre, 54, were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. J.R. Breland, Galveston, officiating, assisted by Rev. Roland Jones, pastor of the church.  Graveside Masonic rites were held at Fairlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements were directed by Allison Funeral Service.  Mr. Pitre died suddenly about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, in Nacogdoches after suffering a heart attack.  A native of Thicket, Texas, he had been a resident of Liberty for 33 years, was a member and deacon in the First Baptist Church, a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge and a veteran of World War II.  He was a salesman for the Jewel Electric Products Co.  He is survived by his wife, Mildred Pitre and mother, Mrs. R.D. Pitre, Sr., both of Liberty; a son, Jack Loftin of Seminole; two brothers, R.D. Pitre of Morgan City, La., and Leo Pitre of Raywood; two sisters, Mrs. Douglas Shell, Liberty, and Mrs. M.M. Flournoy, Huntington and four grandchildren.  Pallbearers were L.T. Brookshire, Sam Bass, Cecil Tate, Ed Minter, Lloyd Blake, Bill Griffin, Albert Reid and Sylvis Long.  Honorary pallbearers were the board of deacons of the First Baptist Church.

Ray Edward Pitre:  Beaumont Journal (TX), Wednesday, 8 November 1944:  Liberty, Nov. 8 - Lt. Ray E. Pitre, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Pitre of Raywood near Liberty, has been declared officially dead by the war department.  He had been missing for more than a year.
