Obituary:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 20 October 1949:  Moise Pitre Dies Yesterday, Final Rites are Today - Lingering illness proves fatal to 59-year-old Ville Platte man - Funeral services were held this afternoon for Moise Pitre, 59, who died Wednesday afternoon at 12:15 in a Lafayette hospital.  Services were read at the Sacred Heart Catholic church with interment in the old Ville Platte cemetery at 2:30.  Mr. Pitre had been critically ill since May and had been treated in New Orleans subsequent to his removal here to his home and then to the Lafayette hospital where he died.  Death was attributed to cancer of the kidney.  He is survived by his widow, the former Lula Lafleur; three daughters, Mrs. Shelby Fontenot, Mrs. Leo Fontenot, and Miss Patsy Nell; five sons, Auston, Herschel, Frank, George, and Leran.  He is also survived by several grandchildren and two brothers.

Obituary:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 8 June 1961:  Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Monday at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Moise Pitre, 66, who died here at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.  Mrs. Pitre, the former Ola Lafleur, is survived by five sons, Wilfred Pitre of Ville Platte, Frank Pitre of Eunice, Austin, Hershel and George Pitre of Port Arthur; three daughters, Mrs. Shelby Fontenot and Mrs. Herbert L. Joubert of Ville Platte, and Mrs. Eugene Stegall of Lake Charles, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Other survivors include two brothers, Curley and Zenon Lafleur, and one sister, Mrs. Dye Fontenot, all of Ville Platte.  Interment was in le Vieux Cimetiere under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.

Auston Pitre:   The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Sunday, 16 September 2007:  (photo)  Auston 'Yos' Pitre - December 23, 1912 - September 13, 2007 - Funeral services for Auston 'Yos' Pitre, 94, of Lake Charles, at the Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 15.  Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.  Mr. Pitre died Thursday, September 13, 2007.  He was retired from Texaco and was a Merchant Marine veteran.  Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Lune of Lake Charles; one sister, Patsy Stegall of Morgan City; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Florella West Pitre.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mary Elaine Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 28 October 1982:  Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mrs. Shelby Fontenot, the former Mary Elaine Pitre, 68, of Ville Platte, who died Thursday, Oct. 21, at 9 a.m. at Savoy Memorial Hospital in Mamou following a long illness.  Burial was in Evangeline Memorial cemetery directed by Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte.  Survivors include her husband, Shelby Fontenot of Ville Platte; one son, Ronald Fontenot of Ville Platte; four brothers, Hershel Pitre and George Pitre of Port Arthur, Texas, and Austin Pitre and Wilfred Pitre of Ville Platte; one sister, Mrs. Eugene Stegall of Kingwood, Tx.; and six grandchildren.

Francois Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 9 November 1977:  Eunice - Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the St. Anthony's Catholic Church here for Francis Pitre, 57, of Eunice.  He died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at his residence following a long illness.  Burial will be held in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery directed by Ardoin's Funeral Home of Eunice.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorine Atkinson Pitre of Eunice; one son, James Pitre of Eunice; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda McCelelland of Baton Rouge and Miss Melinda Pitre of Eunice; four brothers, Hershel and George Pitre, both of Port Arthur, Austin and Wilfred Pitre, both of Ville Platte; three sisters, Mrs. Elaine Fontenot and Mrs. Mona Joubert, both of Ville Platte and Mrs. Patricia Stegeal of Morgan City.  He was a store keeper; a World War II Veteran.

Rosemary Pitre:  Times Picayune, Tuesday, 14 May 1946:  Eunice Man Kills Wife, Then Self - Harry Gillard Uses .22 Rifle In Deaths (Special to The Times Picayune) - Eunice, LA, May 13 -- Harry Guillard, 38 years old, machinist employed at Lake Charles, shot and killed his wife and then killed himself in their home here today.  Gillard was believed to have slain his wife, the former Rosemary Pitre, 20 years old, as she lay on a bed and then fired a single shot into his temple in their bathroom, according to the findings of a coroner's jury.  A .22 caliber rifle was used.  His brother, Stanley Gillard, notified Chief of Police Clinton Jeansonne of this city; Sheriff Clayton Gilbeau, Jr., and Coroner George Azaar of Opelousas, who held the inquest at Ardouins Funeral Home where the bodies had been taken, assisted by Deputy Sheriff Arthur Richard of Opelousas.  The coroner's jury, composed of Thomas Boudreaux, Matthew Veillon, Jr., Marion Biham, Hillman J. Smith, and Delues Manuel, returned a verdict to the effect that Mrs. Rosemary Pitre Gillard came to her death from a gunshot wound by a .22 caliber rifle in the hands of Harry Gillard, and that Harry Gillard came to his death by a gunshot would of the head, self-inflicted with a .22 caliber rifle.  No note or any other information relating to the tragedy was found, and witnesses examined at the coroner's inquest could furnish little information.  Gillard, who was a machinist employed by the Firestone Company of Lake Charles, is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Laurent Gillard; two brothers, John and Stanley Gillard, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Cummings, all of Eunice.  Mrs. Gillard is survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Moise Pitre of Ville Platte; four brothers, Austin and George Pitre, Port Arthur, Tex., Francis Pitre of Eunice, Wilfred Pitre, Ville Platte. and three sisters. Mrs. Shelby Fontenot of St. Landry Post Office, Mona Mae and Patsy Ann Pitre, Ville Platte.  Funeral arrangements had not been announced today.

 

Wilfred Levin Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 28 March 1996:  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 26, 1996, at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church here for Mr. Wilfred 'Shu' L. Pitre, 65, of Ville Platte, who died at 9:15 a.m. on March 24, in Ville Platte Medical Center following a short illness.  Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte.  Mr. Pitre was a retired shoe store owner.  He was preceded in death by one son Matthew Pitre.  Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Wilfred 'Yvonne' Pitre of Ville Platte; one son, Mr. Dexter P. Pitre of Ville Platte; one daughter, Mrs. Ernest 'Angela' Theriot, Jr. of Ville Platte; one brother, Mr. Auston Pitre of Pine Prairie; one sister, Mrs. Eugene 'Patsy' Stegall of Morgan City; and two grandchildren.
