Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 9 November 1977: Eunice - Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the St. Anthony's Catholic Church here for Francis Pitre, 57, of Eunice. He died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at his residence following a long illness. Burial will be held in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery directed by Ardoin's Funeral Home of Eunice. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorine Atkinson Pitre of Eunice; one son, James Pitre of Eunice; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda McClelland of Baton Rouge and Miss Melinda Pitre of Eunice; four brothers, Hershel and George Pitre, both of Port Arthur, Austin and Wilfred Pitre, both of Ville Platte; three sisters, Mrs. Elaine Fontenot and Mrs. Mona Joubert, both of Ville Platte and Mrs. Patricia Stegeal of Morgan City. He was a store keeper; a World War II Veteran.

Obituary: American Press (Lake Charles, LA), 21 June 2000: Eunice - Funeral services for Mrs. Dorine Atkinson Pitre, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jennie Brouillette will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Home. Mrs. Pitre died at 5:35 p.m. Monday, June 19, in a Eunice hospital. She worked at the family business, Pete's Stop & Shop of Eunice, Eunice High School and the Casino Bank Plus. Survivors include one son, Jimmy Pitre of Lake Charles; and two daughters, Mrs. Melinda Boenig of Eunice and Mrs. Brenda Torrence of Baton Rouge.

James Warner Pitre: American Press (Lake Charles, LA), Wednesday, 11 December 2024: James "Jimmy" Pitre, B.S., M.ED., June 20, 1949 - December 8, 2024: James "Jimmy" Pitre, B.S, M.ED., 75, of Lake Charles passed away at 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024 in his residence. He was a beloved educator, coach, and community leader. Mr. Pitre was born on June 20, 1949 in Eunice where he grew up and developed a love for sports that would shape his lifelong legacy. A standout athlete, Mr. Pitre graduated from Eunice High School, where he was a star on the basketball court. His excellence in sports was recognized when he was inducted into the Eunice High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. Following high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to McNeese State University where he earned his master's degree in education while also coaching and teaching at McNeese and his alma mater, Eunice High School. He later returned to McNeese to become a specialist and then became the Intramural Director and the Director of Recreational Complex and also taught driver's education. Mr. Pitre held several leadership positions in NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association) and LACIRSA (Louisiana Association of College & University Recreation). His service to the community was also reflected in his tenure as past president of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where he played a pivotal role in local education for several years. Throughout his life, Mr. Pitre was a dedicated father, coaching his three boys in their little league sports and fostering their love of athletics. His passion for sports, both as a player and as a fan, was evident in every aspect of his life. His legacy as a coach, educator, and community leader will live on for generations. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jean Hartwell Pitre; sons, William "Billy" F. Pitre of Lake Charles, Steven J. Pitre of Lake Charles, and John B. Pitre (Kelli) of San Antonio; sisters, Brenda Torrence (Gene) and Melinda Boenig (Kenneth) of Eunice; and his beloved grandchildren who affectionately called him "Poppi", Calie P. Bass (Cameron), and Myles, Mason, and James Pitre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorine and Frank Pitre and an aunt and uncle, Bill and Burk Manuel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 13, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Dugas, officiating. Born June 13, 1955, in Eunice, LA, Melinda was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Dorine Atkinson Pitre. Melinda dedicated a significant part of her life to education, serving as a beloved teacher at St. Edmund High School from 1983 until her retirement in 2005. With a passion for learning, she inspired countless students through her teachings in accounting, business math, typing, and shorthand. Melinda also took great pride in her role as the orchestrator of the school yearbook, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and community spirit. After retiring, Melinda continued to nurture her love for fellowship by actively participating in her Come Lord Jesus group. She not only attended the meetings but often opened her home to host them, creating a welcoming space where friends could gather in faith and friendship. Melinda's dedication to her family, her students, and her community will always be remembered, and her spirit will live on in the hearts she touched. Melinda will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband of forty six years, Kenneth Boenig of Basile; her sons, Christopher Boenig and wife, Alison of Madisonville and Matthew Boenig and wife, Sarah of Broussard; her daughter, Kelly B. D'Aquilla and husband, Andrew of St. Francisville; her sister, Brenda Torrence and husband, Gene of Baton Rouge; her eight grandchildren, Brady and Anna Boenig, Kennedy and Eleanor Boenig, and Josephine, William, Collin, and Andrew "Drew" D'Aquilla; as well as extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, James "Jimmy" Pitre. At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, and again on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 9:00am until time of services.
