Obituary:   Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Friday, 9 February 1900:  Jasper Pitre - Lake Charles, La., Feb. 8 - Jasper Pitre, police juryman from the Second ward, died last night at his home near Welsh.  He was aged about 42 years, and left a family of children.  His wife preceded him in death.  Mr. Pitre suffered over a year with consumption.

Obituary:  Lake Charles Commercial (Lake Charles, LA), Saturday, 29 May 1897:  Mrs. Jasper Pitre died last Monday afternoon at one o'clock, at the family residence, near Fenton, after a long illness, and was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in the Catholic cemetery.  Deceased was the beloved wife of Mr. Jasper Pitre, a prominent and highly respected citizen of this parish. Among the large crowd of mourners who attended her obsequies were several from this city.

Clerphe Pitre:  Crowley Daily Signal, Thursday, 24 August 1939:  Clerk of Court at Jennings dies Thursday morning - Clarphy Pitre, who has served Jeff Davis Parish for 19 years, succumbs at home - Jennings, La., Aug. 24 - Clarphy Pitre, Jefferson Davis clerk of court, died at his home in Jennings Thursday morning.  Mr. Pitre was born October 10, 1879, near Fenton, in Old Imperial Calcasieu, the son of Jasper and Denise Langley Pitre.  He spent his entire life in this community, attending school in this section during his youth.  He was married to Miss Zelmire Hebert in 1900, and after parish division Mr. Pitre became deputy clerk of court of the new Jeff Davis parish in 1913 under I.R. Price.  He had been clerk since 1920 and was unopposed since that time at parish elections.  Mr. Pitre was known as one of the most efficient clerks of court in Southwest Louisiana.  He is survived by six children, Mrs. J.P. Davidson, Welsh; Mrs. R.L. Miller, Sulphur; Mrs. Ivan Patterson, Jennings; Miss Dorothy Belle Pitre, Jennings; Charles and J.W. Pitre, Jennings; nine grandchildren; several brothers and sisters and a large family connection in Southwest Louisiana.  He was a devout church member, a Knight of Columbus, Elk and W.O.W. member.  His body will lie in state at his home until 10 o'clock Friday morning when funeral services will be held at the church of Our Lady Help of Christians, with Rev. Law M. Fournet of Jennings and Rev. Jules Daigle of Welsh, officiating.

 

Leandre Leon Pitre:  Beaumont Journal (TX), Thursday, 2 August 1956:  Area Deaths - Louisiana - Leon Pitre - Lake Charles - Funeral services for Leon Pitre, 73, a native of Welsh, were conducted Thursday morning at the Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Jules O. Daigle, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.  Surviving are: three daughters, Miss Blossom Pitre and Mrs. Beulah Stewart of Lake Charles and Mrs. P.E. Doiron of Port Allen; one sister, Mrs. Lavenia Marcantel of Kinder; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Lovinia Pitre:  The Times (Shreveport, LA), Saturday, 15 July 1961:  Mrs. Marcantel Dies from Illness - Mrs. Lavinia Pitre Marcantel, 75, mother of City Atty. J.N. Marcantel, died at 9 a.m. yesterday after a brief illness in a hospital at Kinder.  Funeral arrangements are being made through Audoin's Funeral Home in Kinder.  Mrs. Marcantel was a life long resident of Kinder.  She was the widow of J.B. Marcantel and is survived by her son and three grandchildren.

Asa Pitre:  Beaumont Journal (TX), Saturday, 26 January 1952:  Lake Charles - Services were held Saturday morning at Fenton Catholic church with burial at LeBleu cemetery directed by Hixson funeral home for Asa Pitre, 66, of Fenton.  His wife; son, J.W. Pitre of Lake Charles; two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Lovina Marcantel of Fenton and Mrs. Sarah Langley of Elton survive.

 

John Major Pitre:  The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette, LA), Sunday, 30 March 1952:  Rites for J. M. Pitre, 64, held in Mamou - Ville Platte, March 29 - Funeral services were held at the Mamou Catholic church, for John M. Pitre, Sr., 64, of Ville Platte.  Mr. Pitre, formerly of Welch, has been making his home in Ville Platte for many years.  He was a prominent farmer.  Father LeBlanc of the Mamou Catholic church officiated at the funeral services, and interment was in the Mamou Catholic cemetery.  He is survived by his wife, of Ville Platte; two sons, R.W. Pitre of Baton Rouge, and John M. Pitre, Jr. of Ville Platte; three daughters, Mrs. Devic Fruge of Eunice, Mrs. Gladue Dertez of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Dave Janice of Lake Charles; one brother, Leen Pitre of Forth Worth, Texas; and two sisters, Mrs. Levenia Marcentel of Kinder, and Mrs. Ozenac Langley of Elton, and four grandchildren.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

 

Sarah Pitre:  The Eunice News (Eunice, LA), Thursday, 11 August 1955:  Elton Native Dies after Short Illness - Mrs. Ozeman Langley, 66, of Elton died Sunday at 12:35 p.m. in her home after an illness of about two weeks.  Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Paul Catholic Church with interment in the Catholic cemetery at Elton.  Ardoin Funeral Home of Eunice was in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. Langley is survived by one son, Percy of Elton; two daughters, Mrs. Elwood Buller and Miss Aline Langley of Elton; a brother, Leon Pitre of Fort Worth, Tex., and a sister, Mrs. J. B. Marcantel of Kinder.
