Peters and his wife of the River Rouge are the parents, perhaps, of more children than any other couple in the state of Michigan. They were married 24 years ago last December and 23 children have been born to them in that time. Of this number there was but a single set of twins. The last one, a boy, was christened Arthur Alexander by Rev. Fr. Champion, at the River Rouge Catholic church Sunday. Mr. Peters was born in Detroit and is a descendant of the Cicottes and Beaubiens. He is 52 years of age. Mrs. Peters' maiden name was Mary Monk. She was born in Saxony and is 43 years of age. Mr. Peters is a machine woodworker. He is but 5 feet 2 inches in height and weighs about 128 pounds. His wife is slightly taller and weighs more. Mr. Peters says he has always worked hard, but would have worked just as hard if he had no children.
Detroit Free Press, Wednesday, 3 January 1934: If this were baseball season in Detroit, it's safe to say how John B. Peters, of 144 Pine St., River Rouge, would have celebrated his sixtieth wedding anniversary. No doubt, the eighty-eight-year-old Mr. Peters would have indulged in his favorite pastime of attending a baseball game. As it was, he and his wife observed the occasion Friday with a family dinner in their home. They were married in 1873 in old St. Mary's Church, Detroit. Mr. Peters is a native of Detroit. His wife, who is 80 years old, was born in Saxony and came to Detroit with her parents when she was 7. Their children are: Raymond J., city clerk of River Rouge; Frank G., John A., Otto A., Albert J. and Arthur, all of River Rouge; Mrs. H.G. Barber, of River Rouge, and Mrs. Joseph Miller, Mrs. Olive Scanlon and Mrs. John Dunn, of Detroit.

From a posting on ancestry.com family trees by a descendant, dhcook2010: Aunt Mabel Remembers - In 1862 her mother Mary Munck was brought to Detroit with her parents (Edward Munck & Johanna Hoffman) at the age of 7. Mary had 2 sisters and five brothers. One day Mary's father took the family savings, said he was going to buy a farm, and then never returned. Years later, when Mary was no longer fluent in German, a German-speaking man came to the house. She understood something about a rich man who lived in Canada. The man indicated he would return later with an English-speaking friend but never did. Mary didn't know if that was her father or just a friend. Mary took a job at a picture frame factory where she learned the art of gold leafing (using gold paint to highlight the intricate details of a picture frame). She met John Peters, a cabinetmaker, at that factory and they were married in December 1873. Mary was almost 19 and John was 27. They settled on Russell Street in Detroit. John's work led him to the Pullman Car Company where, as a craftsman, he designed and created the intricate designs for the windows and mouldings of the cars. When the workers went on strike, he moved to Salia-Ferguson lumber mill which was run by his uncle (Aunt Geneveva's husband. Aunt Geneveva was Zoe Cicotte's sister.) The family moved to River Rouge. When the mill burned down, John sought employment at another mill in Mt. Clements. Otto was born there. John was then hired by the Ford Motor Company, creating wooden window mouldings. His skill was always appreciated at Ford and he received a generous bonus each year. Aunt Mabel's brothers Raymond and Otto and Tom Hargroves studied music and formed a band. They played for dances at Labidies, which had a dance hall upstairs and a saloon downstairs. Mabel, with her mother as chaperon, often attended. None of the Peters brothers were drafted for WWI as they were all doing skilled work. Most were employed in the shipyards. Ray was a cashier at the Edgar Sugar House in Detroit. Mabel's husband George worked for the newspaper. Mabel celebrated her 95th birthday on 19 December 1977.
