Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 1 April 1943:  Mr. Artemon Pitre was found dead at his home last Sunday afternoon.  He died sometime the night before, his death being caused by a heart attack.  He was 75 years of age and had resided in Melville for the past 2 years.  He came here from Opelousas.  Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Pershing Pitre, nephew of the deceased at the Prairie Ronde Baptist Church with interment in the Prairie Ronde Baptist cemetery.  He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Albert Deville and Mrs. Theogene Deville of Melville, and Mrs. Azema Bertrand of Eunice; and four sons: Amos and Leon of Melville and Ledo and Ambroise of Opelousas.

Marie Azema PitreThe Eunice News (Eunice, LA), Thursday, 22 June 1972:  Mrs. Estave Veillon, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 20, at 3:45 p.m. in Moosa Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  She was the former Azema Pitre and resident of Eunice.  Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in St. Thomas More Catholic Church with interment in St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Home.  Mrs. Veillon is survived by two sons, Roy Veillon of Sulphur and Adrise Bertrand of Eunice; six daughters, Miss Elia Bertrand, Mrs. Arass Bordelon, Mrs. Leroy Guillory, and Mrs. Jack Miller, all of Eunice, and Mrs. Chester Derbes Jr. of Lafayette, and Mrs. Philmen Johnson of Lake Charles; 36 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Antoine Emmas Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 9 August 1960:  Amos A. Pitre, 68, native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Plaquemine for six years, died at 10 p.m. Monday in Plaquemine.  He had been ill for about 11 months.  The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Baptist Church in Prairie Ronde.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Legeda Darville of Plaquemine; three sons, Dennis Pitre of Whitecastle, Phillip Pitre of Melville and Rev. Pershing E. Pitre of Lake Charles; and two daughters, Mrs. Huey P. Kleinpeter and Mrs. Jack W. Smith both of Plaquemine.  Also surviving are two brothers, Ludo Pitre of Opelousas and Leon Pitre of Melville; three sisters, Mrs. Azemia Veillon of Eunice, Mrs. Theogene Darville and Mrs. Albert Darville both of Melville, and 18 grandchildren.

Paul Ludovic Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 10 July 1962:  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday for Ludo Pitre, 65, of 222 E. Smiley st.  He died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of the Lourdes Hospital, Lafayette.  Pitre had been ill since an automobile accident more than a year ago.  He was a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Opelousas for approximately three years.  Pitre was a farmer and cattleman.  He was a member of the St. Landry Farm Bureau, the St. Landry Parish Cattlemen's Association, the Louisiana and American Angus Associations and the American Hereford Association.  Pitre's body is at the home of a son, Dallas Pitre, in Prairie Ronde.  Services will be held at the Baptist Church in Prairie Ronde.  Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.  Lafond and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Eva Bertrand of Opelousas; three sons, Delton and Leroy Pitre of Opelousas and Dallas Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and one daughter, Mrs. Theogene Vassier of Opelousas.  Also surviving are a brother, Leon Pitre of Melville; three sisters, Mrs. Theogene Darville and Mrs. Allen Darville both of Melville and Mrs. E. Veillon of Eunice; 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Ambroise Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 18 May 1954:  Ambroise Pitre, 48-year-old Opelousas taxicab driver and farmer, who died Sunday at 1:58 a.m. after a head-on collision on W. Landry street.  His death is the sixth traffic fatality this year in St. Landry parish....Pitre died at St. Landry clinic here from a crushed chest and internal injuries.  His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services were to be read at the Baptist church in Prairie Ronde at 4 p.m. today and interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.  The deceased was a native of Prairie Ronde.  He is survived by his wife, the former Ozea Bertrand of Opelousas; two sons, Burleigh, with the army in Alaska, who arrived here last night by plane, and Raphael of Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. A.D. Cummings of Church point.  Also surviving are three brothers, Amos of Plaquemine, Ludo of Prairie Ronde and Leon of Melville; three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Veillon of Eunice, Mrs. Theogine Darville and Mrs. Albert Darville both of Melville.  According to the city police, J.C. Rozas, a passenger in the Pitre taxi, had been discharged at the Moonlight Inn and told city police that he heard a crash shortly after he alighted from the taxi.  Pitre was either parked in front of the Moonlight or driving west when the accident occurred, Matt said.  Moreau was driving east, toward Opelousas.  Both cars shashed together at their right front fenders, police stated.  Pitre was found lying on the front seat of his taxicab.  Moreau was thrown from his car and was lying in the street alongside it.

Leon Pitre:  The Town Talk (Alexandria, LA), Friday, 11 August 1967:  Bunkie, La. - Leon Pitre Sr., 59, died Thursday at 4:30 a.m. in a Ville Platte hospital.  He was a resident of Melville.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ivy Pitre; three sons, J.N. Pitre, of Abbeville, Leon Pitre Jr. and Ronas Pitre, both of Melville; two daughters, Mary Lee Dupont and Annie Lee Boudreaux, both of Melville, and two sisters.  Funeral services were to be held at 10 a.m. today in the Melville Pentecostal church.  Burial was in the Bayou Rouge cemetery under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home, Bunkie.

 

Esther Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 23 January 1969:  Funeral services were to be held today at 2 p.m. at the Pentecostal Church in Melville for Mrs. Albert Deville, 55, who died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after an illness of three years.  She was the former Esther Pitre, of Mallet.  The body is at the Pentecostal Church.  Lafond and Son Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.  Survivors are one son, Elgee Deville of Melville; a sister, Mrs. Anzana Veillon of Eunice, and seven grandchildren.
