Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 18 May 1954:  Ambroise Pitre, 48-year-old Opelousas taxicab driver and farmer, who died Sunday at 1:58 a.m. after a head-on collision on W. Landry street.  His death is the sixth traffic fatality this year in St. Landry parish....Pitre died at St. Landry clinic here from a crushed chest and internal injuries.  His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services were to be read at the Baptist church in Prairie Ronde at 4 p.m. today and interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.  The deceased was a native of Prairie Ronde.  He is survived by his wife, the former Ozea Bertrand of Opelousas; two sons, Burleigh, with the army in Alaska, who arrived here last night by plane, and Raphael of Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. A.D. Cummings of Church point.  Also surviving are three brothers, Amos of Plaquemine, Ludo of Prairie Ronde and Leon of Melville; three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Veillon of Eunice, Mrs. Theogine Darville and Mrs. Albert Darville both of Melville.  According to the city police, J.C. Rozas, a passenger in the Pitre taxi, had been discharged at the Moonlight Inn and told city police that he heard a crash shortly after he alighted from the taxi.  Pitre was either parked in front of the Moonlight or driving west when the accident occurred, Matt said.  Moreau was driving east, toward Opelousas.  Both cars shashed together at their right front fenders, police stated.  Pitre was found lying on the front seat of his taxicab.  Moreau was thrown from his car and was lying in the street alongside it.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 21 September 1989:  Funeral services for Mrs. A(m)broise Pitre, the former Ozea Bertrand, 85, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Lafond-Ardoin Guardian Chapel on North Main in Opelousas with burial in the Baptist Cemetery in Prairie Ronde.  Mrs. Pitre, a resident of Prairie Ronde, died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday in Opelousas General Hospital.  Survivors include a son, Raphael Pitre of Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. A.B. (Mildred) Cummings of Opelousas; a brother, Albert Bertrand of Ville Platte; three sisters, Mrs. Curley (Celida) Pitre of Mamou, Mrs. Lawrence (Pearl) Fontenot of Carencro and Mrs. Sherman (Ruby) Granger of Opelousas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildreVisiting hours are from 9 a.m. -10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of services on Friday.  Lafond-Ardoin Guardian Chapel on North Main in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 11 November 2003:  (photo) Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Pitre Cummings, 77, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home South, in Opelousas with burial in St. John Cemetery in Lewisburg.  The Rev. Alan Spence will conduct the services.  Mrs. Cummings, a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Opelousas, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, in Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas following a lengthy illness.  She was a long-time employee of the Palace Cafe in Opelousas.  Mrs. Cummings was a faithful and devoted wife, a loving mother and a caring grandmother.  Survivors include: three sons, Kenneth Cummings and his wife, Audrey, and Michael Cummings and his wife, Stacey, and Charles Cummings, all of Opelousas; a brother, Raphael Pitre, of Opelousas; and four grandchildren, Josh, Jake, Allison and Heather Cummings, all of Opelousas.  Mrs. Cummings was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Cummings; her parents, Ambroise and Ozea Bertrand Pitre; and a brother, Burley Pitre.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home South, Opelousas, is in charge of arrangements.

Burley Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 18 November 1988:  Funeral services for Mr. Burley Pitre, 53, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main in Opelousas with burial in Prairie Ronde Baptist Cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Vinton formerly of Opelousas, died at 5 a.m. Thursday in Vinton.  He was a member of the Horsemans Benevelence Association.  Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ambroise (Ozea) Pitre of Opelousas; a son, Brent Pitre of Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Darlene) Richard of Baton Rouge; a brother, Raphael Pitre of Opelousas; a sister, Mrs. A. B. (Mildred) Cummings of Opelousas; and two grandchildren.  Visiting hours are from 6-10 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until time of services.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main is in charge of arrangements.
