Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Monday, 14 March 1949:  Guy LaShomb Dies Suddenly At His Home: Guy LaShomb, 53, a restaurant proprietor in Massena for 11 years, died very suddenly at 8:15 Sunday morning, Mar. 13, 1949, at his home on the Plumbrook Rd.  He was stricken with a fatal heart attack just as he was ready to come to church services in Massena.  He had been failing for the past two months.  He was born Nov. 13. 1895, at Brasher Falls, a son of William and Anna Harriman LaShomb.  He attended schools in Brasher Falls and Norwood. Enlisting in the U. S. Army on July 11, 1918, during World War 1, he was graduated from a cooks’ and bakers' school at Camp Dix, N. J.  He served in the army nine months.  He was a custodian of Pine Grove School, then a watchman at the aluminum plant, before going into the restaurant business.  He operated Guy's Diner at the corner of Park Ave. and Beach St. for 11 years.  Mr. LaShomb and Miss Ethel LaComb, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter LaComb, were married in the old Sacred Heart Church on May 6, 1918 by the Rev. Benjamin H. Staie, then assistant pastor.  For some years they lived on South Main St.  Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Virginia) Goodrich, Mrs. Howard (Thelma) Durant, Kay, Marie and Mary Jane LaShomb, all living at home; seven sons, Robert of the Massena-Winthrop Rd., Harold of Massena, Donald of Route 2, Norfolk, Raymond of Carthage, Lawrence, who is with the U. S. Army on Guam, Leo of Massena, Carl at home.  Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Carey Eddy, Watertown, Mrs. Fred Sutherland, Boston, Mrs. Allie Foss, Lancaster, N. H., and Mrs. William Hover, Saranac Lake; three brothers, Hubert of Potsdam, Arthur of Watertown and Leo of Grantville; three grandchildren, Sandra and Dale LaShomb and Donna Durant.  Mr. LaShomb was a member of Massena Post 79, American Legion, the Father's Club of the VFW and of the Moose.  Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at Sacred Heart Church.  The body will remain at the Phillips Memorial Home until the hour of the funeral.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 16 July 1968:  Mrs. Ethel A. LaShomb, 72, of 15 East Hatfield St., widow of Guy LaShomb, died at 5 o'-clock Thursday morning, July 11, 1968, in Massena Memorial Hospital.  Mrs. LaShomb had been in failing health several years.  She entered the hospital Tuesday.  The body was at the Phillips Memorial Home.  Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at Sacred Heart Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.  Mrs. LaShomb is survived by seven sons, Robert, Harold, Donald, Raymon, Larry and Leo LaShomb, all of Massena, and Carl LaShomb, of Niagara Falls; five daughters, Mrs. Leon (Virginia) Barcomb, Mrs. Howard (Velma) Durant, Mrs. Robert (Kay) Green, Mrs. Peter (Marie) Allen and Miss Mary Jane LaShomb, all of Massena; more than 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Carman (Blanche) Bradshaw, South Colton, and a brother, Arthur LaShomb, Florida.  Mrs. LaShomb was born in the town of Norfolk, Feb. 16, 1896, a daughter of Peter and Margaret Trippany LaShomb.  She attended schools in the Norfolk vicinity and was married to Guy LaShomb in Sacred Heart Church in May, 1918.  The couple lived in Norfolk until Mr. LaShomb's death Mar. 13, 1949.  The following year, she moved to Massena.  She was a communicant of Sacred Heart church.

LaShomb, 78, of 1768 County Route 38, Norfolk, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation with the Rev. Andrew J. Amyot, officiating.  Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Phillips Funeral Home.  Mr. LaShomb died Thursday evening (August 20, 1998) at the Massena Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Eugenia; a son, Dale R. LaShomb of Massena; a daughter, Sandra Neverette of Massena; a step-son, Eugene Brothers of Bloomington, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Karen Durham of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren; two great-grand-children; four step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; five brothers: Harold, Raymond, Leo, and Donald, all of Massena, and Carl of Buffalo; five sisters: Mrs. Velma Deruchia, Mary Jane LaShomb, and Kay Green, all of Massena, Virginia Bearcombe of Dallas, Texas, and Marie Krusher of Palm Coast, Florida.  He was predeceased by one brother, Larry LaShomb.  Mr. LaShomb was born Massena on May 11, 1920, the son of Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb.  He graduated from Massena High School in 1938.  He married Eugenia Bordeaux Brothers on March 27, 1978 at St. Augustine's Church in North Bangor.  Mr. LaShomb at one time worked at his father's restaurant, Guy's Diner, and later worked in The Saranac Hotel.  Mr. LaShomb retired as a cook from the cafeteria at Reynolds Metals after 10 years.  He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and playing the violin.

Harold James Lashomb:  Massena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Wednesday, 22 November 2006:  Norfolk - Funeral services for Harold J. LaShomb, 84, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Visitation.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.  Mr. LaShomb died Saturday (Nov. 18) at his daughter's home in Connecticut.  He is survived by his son, Paul LaShomb of Cassadaga; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Dorsey Garrett of Connecticut; a daughter-in-law, Melody LaShomb of Norfolk; four sisters, Velma Deruchia, Kay Schneller, Mary Jane LaShomb and Marie Krusher; two brothers, Leo LaShomb and Carl LaShomb; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a son, James LaShomb; one sister, Virginia Barcomb; and four brothers, Robert, Donald, Lawrence, and Raymond.  He was born on Jan. 30, 1922 in Massena, the son of Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb.  He was a graduate of Massena High School.  He married Veronica White on Jan. 17,1942.  She died on Dec. 1, 1994.  Mr. LaShomb was employed by Alcoa for 41 years.  He enjoyed bowling and music and loved to play the guitar and sing for his beloved family of sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.

LaShomb, 79, of 9 Laurel Ave., Massena, will be held at the convenience of the family at Calvary Cemetery.  There will be no public calling hours.  Arrangements are with the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.  Mr. LaShomb died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at the St. Regis Nursing Home.  He is survived by his wife, Irene; four granddaughters, Debra Dean of Boyne, Mich., Kim Hall of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Donna and Delores LaShomb, both of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a grandson, David LaShomb of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two great grandsons; a great granddaughter; four brothers, Harold of Norfolk, Raymond and Leo, both of Massena, Carl of Niagara Falls; four sisters, Mrs.Donald (Velma) Deruchia of Massena, Kay Schneller of Louisville, Marie Krusher of Florida and Mary Jane LaShomb of Massena; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son, Richard, on July 24, 1992; two brothers, Lawrence and Robert, and a sister, Virginia Barcume.  He was born April 12, 1923 in Massena, the son of Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb.  He attended St. Mary's School in Massena and Lost Nation School.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Central Europe.  He married Irene F. Deragon on Nov. 23, 1946 at the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Norfolk by the Rev. Francis Connors.  He returned to Massena and worked at Alcoa and Racquette River Paper Mill.  He then worked for his uncle, Carmen Bradshaw, in his garage in Massena Springs.  In 1953, he opened LaShomb's Sunoco on Willow Street until 1982.  He then worked for Collins Brothers and Frenchie's Chevrolet.  He retired in 1992.  He was a member of the VFW Post 1143, American Legion Post 79, a past member of Amvets Post 4.  He had resided in St. Mary's Church Parish for many years.  He loved his grandchildren, enjoyed fishing and was an avid bowler.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

LaShomb, 77, of 2 Plum St. Massena, will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Massena with the Rev. Jack Downs, pastor officiating.  Burial with full military honors will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are with the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.  Mr. LaShomb died Sunday morning (March 9, 2003) at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.  He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Trudy) O'Neil of Massena; seven sons, Rene of Massena, Duane and wife Shirley of Yorktown, Ind., Rickie and wife Vickie of Elkton, Fla., Bruce and wife Maureen, Philip and wife Cynthia, Jeffrey and wife Leisa, all of Massena and William and wife Christina of Louisville; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers and four sisters, Harold of Norfolk, Leo of Massena, Carl of Wheatfield, Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Derouchia of Massena, Mrs. Ernest (Kay) Schneller of Louisville, Marie Krusher of Palm Coast, Fla., and Mary Jane LaShomb of Massena.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Lawrence and Robert, and a sister, Virginia Burain.  Mr. LaShomb was born on Aug. 25, 1925 in Massena, the son of Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb.  He graduated from Massena High School and attended Naval Radio School.  He married Gertrude White on Aug. 25, 1948 at the Church of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Gerald Kellogg presiding.  He was in the U. S. Navy from Sept. 25, 1943 until his discharge on April 14, 1946.  He was awarded the Purple Heart and was cited a Presidential Letter of Commendation.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 15, 1951 and was discharged on Feb. 18, 1953 as a sergeant.  Mr. LaShomb was employed as a senior clerk at GM Powertrain.  He was a member of the Amvets Post No.4, American Legion Post No. 79 and VFW Post No. 1143.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Velma Agnes Lashomb:  Phillips Memorial Home (Massena, NY):  Massena, NY - Velma A. Deruchia born on February 10, 1927 passed away on January 2, 2021 at her home with her loving daughters by her side.  Velma was born to the late Guy and Ethel (LaCombe) LaShomb.  Surviving are her daughters Donna (Durant) and William Blair, Linda (Durant) Austin, Cissy (Durant) and Joe Kilmer, Freda (Durant) and Lyle Mousseau and Brenda Durant.  Velma is also survived by her grandchildren Mark, Lorie, Tom, Scott, Tina, Chris, and Trevor.  As well as her great-grandchildren Kenny, Josh, Billy, Julia, Arjun, Maya, Lauryn, Jacob, Nicholas, Kaleb, Zachary, Issiah, Dominick, Chris Jr, Kora, and Jesse.  She also had the privilege to be the great-great- grandmother to Peyton.  She is also survived by her sisters and brother Marie (LaShomb) Krusher, Mary Jane LaShomb and Carl LaShomb, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Velma was predeceased by her husband Donald Deruchia, and a son Fred Durant, granddaughter Tricia, brothers and sisters Robert LaShomb, Harold LaShomb, Donald LaShomb, Virgina (LaShomb) Barcomb, Raymond LaShomb, Larry LaShomb, Leo LaShomb, and Kay (LaShomb) Schuller.  Velma enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, family gatherings, watching Lawrence Welk and figure skating shows, as well as her husband playing the fiddle, knitting and crocheting.  Velma, prior to her retirement, worked many years as a waitress at her family's restaurant Guys Diner in Massena.

 

Lawrence J. Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 27 April 1989:  Funeral services for Lawrence J. LaShomb, 59, 4 Howard St., Massena, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Massena with Rev. Terry LaValley officiating.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  There were no public calling hours.  Arrangements were with the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.  Mr. LaShomb died unexpectedly Tuesday (April 25, 1989) at Guy's Restaurant.  He and his brother owned and operated the restaurant.  Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a son, Lawrence of Ithaca; four daughters, Mrs. Randy (Constance) Patnode, Suzanne LaShomb, Suzette LaShomb, Karen LaShomb, all of Massena; four grandchildren; six brothers, Robert and Harold of Norfolk, Raymond, Leo and Donald, all of Massena, Carl, of Niagara Falls; five sisters, Mrs. Leon (Virginia) Burcomb of Garland, Texas, Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Derushia and Mrs. Robert (Kay) Green, both of Massena, Mrs. Paul (Marie) Krusher of Florida, Mary Jane LaShomb of Massena.  He was predeceased by two sons, Paul in 1954, Kin in 1981.  He was born June 27, 1929 in Massena, son of Guy and Ethel LaComb LaShomb.  He graduated from Massena High School and was a short order cook at his father's restaurant.  He served in the Korean War and following his discharge, he and his brother opened Guy's Restaurant on the Highland Road, Massena.  They have operated the restaurant for the past 30 years.  He married Shirley Kellison on July 18, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Michael Jurecki, officiating.  Mr. LaShomb, was a member of VFW Post 1143, Massena, was a member of the Massena Rescue Squad board of directors, and a past member of the Trinity Catholic School board.  Donations may be made to the Trinity Catholic School Endowment Fund or the Massena Rescue Squad.

LaShomb, 82, of 11 Bucktown Road Massena, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice.  Leo was born on March 5, 1931 in Massena, the son of Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb.  Leo proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He married Rita Sharlow on May 15, 1954 at Sacred Heart Church in Massena.  He was owner and operator at Guy's Restaurant, a long-time staple in the Massena community.  He was a lifetime member of the Elks Massena Lodge 1702 and the Massena VFW.  Leo was actively involved with Massena Little League, umpired countless games throughout his active life, and proudly assisted with field maintenance at the Massena Springs Park field which was named in his honor on July 9, 1993.  He also enjoyed horse racing and bowling.  One of Leo's lifelong goals was to bowl a 300; which he accomplished on November 20, 2003.  Leo's survivors include his loving wife Rita, his children: Paula (LaShomb) Flewelling of Cornwall, Ontario; Danny and Vicki (Barnes) LaShomb of Bombay, NY; Mark and Sarah (LaTray) LaShomb of Massena, NY; Jill (LaShomb) and Warren Murray of Massena, NY; Wendy LaShomb and Brian Edwards of Massena, NY; and Steve and Jenny (Barkley) LaShomb of Massena, NY; grandsons Adam LaShomb, Lucas Purser, Matthew See, Joshuah and Nevin LaShomb; granddaughters Andrea (LaShomb) Froburg, Traci Flewelling, Kallee and Katie Frego, and Kylee LaShomb; great-granddaughters Madalyn and Marie LaShomb; brother Carl LaShomb and sisters Mary Jane LaShomb, Velma Derushia, Kay Schneller, and Marie Krusher; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Guy and Ethel LaShomb, brothers Robert, Ray, Larry, Harold, Donald, and a sister Virginia.  A Mass of Christian burial with full Military Honors will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Friends and Family may call on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.  The Elks Lodge 1702 will hold a services on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley; Potsdam, NY or the Massena Little League. Kay Margaret Lashomb:  northcountrynow.com (NY):  Kay Margaret LaShomb Green, age 85 of Tucker Terrace, passed away at CVPH, Plattsburgh, NY on Friday April 12, 2019 with her loving family by her side.  She was born on June 6, 1933 to the late Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb of Norfolk & Massena, NY.  She was one of twelve siblings; Velma (Deruchia), Marie (Krusher), Mary Jane, and Carl. She was predeceased by Robert, Harold, Donald, Virginia, Raymond, Lawrence, and Leo.  She married her high school sweetheart, Robert L. Green who predeceased her in 1995.  She had seven children, Deborah A. Fent (Brian), Kathy E. Green (Shawna Cecot), Robert L. Green (Margaret), Lori Kay Curran (Patrick) and Michael J. Green.  Also, Michael Robert and Ann Margaret whom where deceased in infancy.  She is also survived by her ten grandchildren whom she adored, Marcie Kay, William, Angela, Katie, BreAnn, MaryKay, Erinn, Megan, Kelli Kay and Colleen.  In addition, ten great-grandchildren; Sadie, Emmalyn, Carmen, Sebastian, Gideon, Henry, Mason, Benjamin, Alexander and Madeliene Kay.  She would like to be remembered for the love she had for her husband Bob, her children and grandchildren whom she devoted her entire life to.  She also loved all her beloved pets, past and present, Tara, Allie, Mia and Gracie Kay.  She was known for her style, her love of life, music, and dancing.  She enjoyed traveling and visiting with her neighbors and friends.  Her friends were many, her love for them was sincere.  She often mentioned how she loved her mother and missed her dearly, and her father was an early mentor for her in his namesake restaurant, Guy's Dinner.  She waitressed at Guy’s and took great pride in her work accomplishments and pleasing customers, especially the children.  She was an exceptional cook at home and loved to make meals and treats for her family; holidays were a warm and fun-filled time for family.  Her Catholic faith was at the core of her being and was very important to her.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Lawrence Church, Willard Road, Louisville.  Burial immediately to follow in the parish cemetery.  Those attending are encouraged to wear a touch of pink, which was her favorite color, in her honor.  The family has entrusted arrangements to the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.  In lieu of flowers, the family would kindly acknowledge donations and memorial contributions to AMVETS Post #4; 12 Andrew Street or the Massena Humane Society, Massena, NY.
