Notes for Joseph Etienne Ayo:
- Joseph Etienne Ayo was the firstborn of his French father and Acadian descendant mother in 1789 along Bayou Lafourche. He was 22 when he married Marie Adelaide Naquin who was the 17-year-old daughter of Acadian descendants. Barely 12 years after their marriage Joseph died. Marie was left with five small children. Unusually for that time, it was almost five years before she remarried, this time to Christophe Troxler, a bachelor 7 years her junior. They had at least two more children. The eldest Ayo child, Pierre died in 1837, and one month later Marie petitioned for an inventory to be taken (this would ensure the Ayo offspring received their due from their father's estate). Her four other Ayo children were still unmarried at this time, but approaching the age of majority. She died at the age of 61, her second husband outliving her by 10 years.
