Jean Louis Urbain Berthelot was born 12 August 1720 at Fort Louis, Mobile, AL (Louisiana Territory) (baptism: 12 August 1720 Mobile), and died Abt. 1765 in Edgard, St. John, LA.

 

Wife Marie Louise Fontenau was born Abt. 1727 at Mobile, AL (Louisiana Territory), and died 15 December 1814 at Edgard, St. John, LA.  They were married Abt. 1742 at Mobile, AL (Louisiana Territory).

Notes for Henri Berthelot:

- 16 April 1786: Henri bought a slave (Francois, 30) for 550 piastres from George Kerner. (St. John)

- 31 July 1788: Henri, now resident of St. James, bought a slave (Cecile, 30) for 500 piastres from Mariano Tomas.

- Henri moved his family from St. John upriver into St. James parish and established himself as a planter on the east bank of the Miss. R.  By 1820 he possessed 36 slaves as house and field workers.

- 10 March 1795: Yves bought a slave (Jean Baptiste, 35, of the Banbara nation) for 500 piastres from his brother Pierre.

- 1810 St. John census (west bank): Yves Berthelot  males 2 <10, 3 (11-16), 1 (27-45), females 2 <10, 1 (11-16), 1 (27-45), 4 slaves.

Notes for Jean Louis Urbain Berthelot:

- Jean Louis was born in 1720 in Mobile, Louisiana territory of French parents.  He married Marie Louise while still there c1742.  He was discharged from the service on 1 January 1755 ("General Roll of LA Troops 1720-70" by Winston De Ville).  In 1763 West Florida was given to England.  Many of the Gulf Coast French families migrated to Louisiana where they settled along what was to become the Second German Coast (St. John parish).  Sons Henri and Yves remained along the Miss. R., Pierre moved on to Bayou Lafourche, and Marie Thereze went to the Opelousas area with her husband.

- Second husband Jean Desnoyers was born Abt. 1729 in Gascony, and died 14 April 1803  Edgard, St. John, LA.  They were married 9 May 1766 in New Orleans, LA.

- 1784 census Second German Coast: Jean Denoyer, wife Louise Fontenau  males 1 <14, 2 (14-49), females 3 <14, 1 (49+)
