- Ogdensburg Republican Journal (NY), 28 December 1931:  Winthrop, Dec. 28 - James, six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lashomb of Brasher Center had a narrow escape from drowning in the St. Lawrence river, near his home on Saturday, Dec. 18.  He was sliding on the ice with his brother, Lawrence, when his sled broke through the thin ice and he went into the water.  He managed to get hold of firm ice and pulled himself to safety.  He walked home, well drenched, but seems no worse for the cold ducking.  His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lashomb, celebrated their golden wedding, May 19.

- Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 29 August 1935: Brasher Center:  Mrs. Walter LaShombe, who has been very ill, is improving. We extend sympathy to Mr. And Mrs. LaShombe in the loss of their infant baby.

- Massena Observer (NY), 7 February 1957:  Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lashomb, and their 13-year-old son Gary were injured at 6:50 Monday night when the family auto collided with a Rutland Railroad freight train at the crossing in Winthrop.  Mr. LaShomb, 59, a patient in Potsdam Hospital, was listed in poor condition with a compound fracture of the skull.  He is being treated by Dr. Ralph Cudlipp Jr. of Brasher Falls and Dr. William Carter of Watertown, a brain specialist.  He was transferred to a Watertown hospital on Wednesday.  Mrs. LaShomb suffered a severe scalp laceration and her condition is improving.  Gary LaShomb received a bump on the back of the head and a strained neck and was treated and released.  Another child, Janet Marie LaShom, 9, was uninjured.  Mr. and Mrs. LaShomb and two children were driving east on Route 11 and were unable to stop on the slippery pavement and struck the left front of the engine of the 74-car train which was headed north from Alburg, Vt. to Norwood.  The impact threw the auto to the left side of the highway and Mr. LaShomb was hurled from the car and landed 36 feet away near the tracks.  The injured were rushed to the Potsdam Hospital in the Hammill ambulance.  Mr. LaShomb was operating the family auto with Mrs. LaShomb riding in the front and the two children in the rear.  The right front of the auto was extensively damaged.  A light snow fell late Monday afternoon, melted and then froze, glazing highways in the Winthrop area.  The signal lights at the crossing were operating at the time of the crash. Floyd Kreller of Alburg, Vt. was engineer of the train with Allen Chilton of Norwood as conductor and Hubert Poquette of Alburg as fireman. (photo of car)
