Misc:  Courier and Freeman (Potsdam, NY), Wednesday, 20 October 1897:  Brasher Centre - Jennie Lashomb and sister Lizzie of the Ridge are spending a few days at their brother's, Henry Lashomb, during his absence at Montreal, being called there by the severe sickness of their little daughter who is under treatment at the city hospital.

- Massena Observer (NY), 14 May 1931:  Brasher Center - Charles Henry Lashomb was given a surprise last Friday evening, May 8, the occasion being his 71st birthday.  His granddaughter, Geraldine Layo, also celebrated her eighth birthday on that date.  Those present were Mrs. C. H. Lashomb, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ormsby, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Layo and daughters, Pauline and Geraldine, Mr. and Mrs. William Lashomb and daughter Dorothy, all of Massena; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas White and son Elwood, of Maple Ridge; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lashomb and three children, James, Lawrence, and Dorothy, of Brasher Center.  There were two birthday cakes, one with 71 candles and the other with eight candles.

- Norwood News (NY), Wednesday, 20 May 1931:  Lashombs Celebrate Their Fiftieth Anniversary - Golden Wedding Noted at Home on Brasher Iron Works - Brasher Center Road, May 19 - A large number of friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peter Lashomb gathered at their home on the Brasher Iron Works - Brasher Center road about 15 miles from Massena last evening, to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.  Mr. and Mrs. Lashomb were married May 19, 1881, at the Massena Sacred Heart church by Rev. Father Kellier.  They lived for a time on the Maple Ridge in the town of Brasher and moved to the farm where they now reside, 37 years ago.  They live on a 200-acre farm which they have always operated with very little help.  Both are in excellent health.  Mr. and Mrs. Lashomb are also the head of a four generation group.  They have three sons and three daughters.  One son is William Lashomb of 57 Somerset avenue, Massena, who represents the second generation.  His son, Howard LaShomb, is also a resident of Massena and has a son, Arthur Lashomb.  Mr. Lashomb is 71 years of age.  He was born May 8, 1860, at Brasher Center and is a son of Peter and Almira Quenelle Lashomb.  Mrs. Lashomb is 69 years of age and she was born April 26, 1862, in St. Andrews, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lalonde.  Before her marriage she was Anne Lalonde.  She came to the United States at the age of 17 years and two years later married Henry B. Lashomb.  Among those who attended the golden wedding celebration were: Mr. And Mrs. Lashomb’s six children, William Lashomb, Massena; Melvin Lashomb, Helena; Walter Lashomb, Brasher Center; Mrs. Thomas White of Maple Ridge in the town of Brasher; Mrs. Frank Ormsby of 61 Bishop avenue, Massena; and Mrs. Lawrence Layo of 31 Malby avenue, Massena.

 

Obituary:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Monday, 15 January 1945:  H. P. Lashomb, 86, Massena, Dies.  Massena, Jan. 15 - Henry Peter Lashomb, 86, retired farmer, died Sunday evening at 6:10 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Ormsby, 61 Bishop avenue.  Funeral services will be held at 10 Tuesday morning at St. Mary's church.  The body will be placed in the vault at Calvary cemetery and burial will be made in Brasher Falls in the spring.  Mr. Lashomb was born May 8, 1858, at Brasher Falls, a son of Peter and Elmira Quenelle Lashomb.  He married Miss Anna Lalonde on St. Andrews, Ont., in Sacred Heart church, May 19, 1877.  He farmed in this vicinity until retiring and has been in failing health for the past year.  His condition became serious in November.  Mr. Lashomb leaves his wife, two sons, Walter, Brasher Falls, and Melvin, Potsdam; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Gertrude) Layo and Mrs. Frank (Rebie) Ormsby, Massena; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Peter, Antwerp; Fred, Brasher Falls, and Bert, Massena, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth O'Keefe, Fayetteville.

- Commercial Advertiser 1945, Brasher Falls:  Henry Peter Lashamb, 86, a retired farmer, died Sunday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Ormsby.  Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock.  The body was placed in a vault and burial will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery here in the spring.  Mr. Lashomb was born in Brasher Falls, a son of Peter and Elmira Quenell Lashomb.  He married Miss Anna Lalone of Canada.  He operated a farm until a few years ago.  The couple went to live with their daughter.  He is survived by his wife, two sons, Melvin of Potsdam, Walter of this village, two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Layo and Mrs. Ormsby, three brothers, Peter of Antwerp, Fred of this place, and Bert of Massena, one sister, Mrs. O’Keefe.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday 23 August 1945: Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Lalone LaShomb, 83, were held this morning at 10 o'clock in St. Mary's Church and burial was made in the family plot at Brasher Falls.  Mrs. Lashomb died at 5:30 Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Grimsby, 61 Bishop Ave.  She had been ill for the past two weeks and in failing health for some time.  She was born Apr. 26, 1862 at St. Andrews, Ont., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lalone.  She came to St. Lawrence County when she was 17 years old and settled in Massena.  On May 19, 1881, she was married to Henry P. LaShomb, Brasher Falls, in Sacred Heart Church.  They made their home on the LaShomb farm in Brasher for 57 years.  They came to Massena seven years ago to reside with their daughters.  Mr. LaShomb died Jan. 14, 1945.  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Rebie) Ormsby, and Mrs. Lawrence (Gertrude) Layo, 31 Malby Ave., two sons, Melvin LaShomb, Brasher Center, and Walter LaShomb, Brasher Falls;18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a foster son, Edward Lalone, Ogdensburg.

Obituaries for the children:

William Henry Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 6 September 1938:  Funeral services for William H. LaShomb, 55, were held this morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's Church, Massena.  Burial was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Brasher Falls.  Seriously ill only three hours, Mr. I.aShomb died at the Albion Hotel in Potsdam Saturday morning at 2:15 o’clock.  About 10 months ago he suffered a stroke and was forced to give up his work at the aluminum plant.  They resided at 57 Somerset Ave.  In July Mr. and Mrs. LaShomb secured employment at the Albion Hotel.  He never fully recovered his health although he was able to do light work.  Late Friday evening he complained that he was not feeling well and at that time suffered another stroke and died within three hours.  The body was brought to Massena Saturday morning by J. L. Phillips and taken to the family home at 57 Somerset Ave.  Mr. LaShomb was born at Maple Ridge, Town of Brasher, Dec. 21, 1882, a son of Henry C. and Anna Lalonde LaShomb, both of whom are still living.  He grew to manhood on the home farm and married Miss Maude McDonald of Brushton.  They would have celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary next Friday.  Mr. and Mrs. LaShomb lived at Brasher Iron Works, Pierpont and other places in the North Country and then they moved to Massachusetts.  They returned to Massena and Mr. LaShomb secured employment at the aluminum plant and worked there until he was forced to give up his work due to ill health.  He was a member of St. Mary's Church.  Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. LaShomb, who reside in this section; his wife; two sons, Howard LaShomb, Liberty Ave., and Lester LaShomb, Cedar St.; one daughter, Mrs. Carl Dutt, 57 Somerset Ave.  Brothers and sisters surviving arc Mrs. Frank Ormsby, 61 Bishop Ave., Melvin LaShomb, Nicholville, Walter LaShomb, Brasher Falls, Mrs. I.awrence Layo, 31 Malby.  A sister, Mrs. Thomas White, died three years ago.

Effie A. Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 10 January 1935 – Mrs. Effie LaShomb White, 50, who has been in declining health for the past two years, died at an Ogdensburg hospital Thursday night at 9:00 o’clock.  The remains were brought to the home of her brother, William LaShomb, 57 Somerset avenue, and the funeral services were held Monday morning from Sacred Heart church.  The body was placed in the retaining vault in Calvary cemetery and in the spring will be buried in the cemetery at Brasher Falls.  Mrs. White was born April 26, 1884, in the town of Brasher at Maple Ridge.  Twenty-nine years ago on October 30 she married Thomas White and they have resided in Maple Ridge since.  Mr. White is now making his home at 57 Somerset avenue.  Surviving are her husband; four sons, Walter, of Fort Covington, Clement, LeRoy and Elwood, all of Massena; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. LaShomb, of Brasher Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Ormsby, of 61 Bishop avenue, and Mrs. Lawrence Layo, of 31 Malby avenue; three brothers, William, of 57 Somerset avenue, Melvin, of Helena, and Walter, of Brasher Falls.  Mrs, White was a member of the Sacred Heart church, also of the Ladies Catholic Benevolent association and of the League of the Sacred Heart.  The funeral was largely attended and deepest sympathy was extended from her home community, Maple Ridge; also from Helena, Fort Covington, Brasher, Norwood and Montreal.

Rebie Lashombe:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 22 April 1969:  Funeral services for Mrs. Rebie LaShombe Ormsby, 81, of 61 Bishop Ave.,  widow of Frank Ormsby, were held on Monday morning, at 11:30 o'clock in St. Patrick’s Church of Brasher Falls, with burial in the parish cemetery.  Mrs. Ormsby died Friday night, Apr. 18, 1969, at the Highland Nursing Home, where she had been a patient two weeks.  Previous to that time she was a patient in Massena Memorial Hospital.  She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Layo, Massena.  She was born in Brasher Center, July 28, 1887, a daughter of Charles Henry and Anna LaLonde LaShombe.  She attended schools in Brasher Center and was married to Mr. Ormsby on April 2, 1918.  They were married in Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. Timothy P. Holland, then pastor.  At the time of the marriage, Mr. Ormsby was serving in World War 1 and was stationed at Camp Devens.  A retired Alcoan, he died Dec. 16, 1963.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart League and St. Thomas Branch 1100, LCBA.

Melvin Levi Lashombe:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 17 July 1962:  Melvin Levi LaShombe. 72, 120 Liberty Ave., died Friday, July 13, 1962, in the Charlebois Nursing Home in Potsdam, where he had been a patient two months.  Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock in St. Mary's Church, Potsdam, and burial was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brasher Falls.  Mr. LaShombe was born Mar. 10, 1890, in Brasher, a son of Henry and Anna Lalonde LaShombe.  He attended Brasher Schools and in 1915 married Miss Catherine Dashnaw.  She died in 1948.  He married Mrs. Anna Mae Dillabough, Massena, May 15, 1953.  They lived in Potsdam until about three years ago when they moved to Massena.  He had his own truck in Potsdam but due to failing eyesight, he had to give up that type of business.  Surviving are his wife; two sons and a daughter by the first marriage, Kenneth La Shombe, Potsdam, Ralph LaShombe, Auburn, and Mrs. Hilda Young, Syracuse; 12 grandchildren: two sisters Mrs. Rebah Ormsby, Massena and Mrs. Gertrude Layo, Raybrook; two stepchildren, Bernard LaGrave and Mrs. Jean Silver, Massena.

Mary Edith Lashomb:  The Northern Observer (NY), 2 September 1897:  Henry 'Pete' Lashomb's little girl two and one half years old is quite sick.  She fell on a wagon hurting herself so it caused a shock of paralysis, but little hopes are entertained of her recovery.

Walter Herbert Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Monday 18 February 1957: Walter LaShomb, 58, of Winthrop, seriously injured Feb. 4 when his auto collided with a Rutland Railroad train in Winthrop, died at 7:50 Thursday night, Feb 14, 1957 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown.  He suffered a compound fracture of the skull when thrown from his auto by the crash.  He was removed to Potsdam Hospital and a few days later was taken to the Watertown hospital.  An inquest into the accident is pending.  Mr. LaShomb's wife, riding in the car, suffered severe scalp lacerations, and their son, Gary, 11, suffered a bump on the head.  Another of their children, Janet, 9, also in the car, was uninjured.  The body remained at the family home until 10:30 this morning when services were held in St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls.  The Rev. Noel Zimmerman, pastor, officiated.  The remains were placed in the Winthrop Cemetery vault to await burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Mr. LaShomb was born July 6, 1898 in Brasher, the son of Charles and Anna LaLonde LaShomb.  He was educated in schools in that area and on Jan. 13, 1923 he and Mildred Monica were married in Ogdensburg by Father Lacey.  He was employed as a potman at the Massena Works of Alcoa.  Surviving are his wife, four sons, James, Brasher Falls, Lawrence, Massena, Gary, at home, and William, in the Air Force in Mississippi; three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Martha) Barkley, Patricia and Janet, both at home; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Melvin LaShomb, Potsdam, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Rebie) Ormsby and Mrs. Lawrence (Gertrude) Layo, both of Massena.

Gertrude May Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 5 December 1978:  Funeral services for Gertrude M. Layo, 76, of 16 Talcott St., were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Peter Berg officiating.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.  Mrs. Layo died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 1978 at 10:18 a.m. in Massena Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for ten days.  She was born in Brasher Falls on May 20, 1902, the daughter of Charles H. Lashombe, and Anna LaLonde Lashombe.  She was educated in Brasher Falls schools and married Lawrence Layo on Feb. 12, 1923 in St. Mary's Church.  The Rev. John Bellamy officiated.  Mr. Layo died in January, 1959.  She was a member of the Legion of the Sacred Heart and the White Cane Club.  Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Geraldine) McDonald, Massena, Mrs. Pauline Good, Massena, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Two sons, six daughters, three brothers and four sisters predeceased her.  Arrangements were handled by Phillips Memorial
