Joseph Leander Peters:
Mercury-Melrose Evening News (MA), Tuesday, 15 September 1987:
Joseph L. Peters died after a lengthy illness at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital
in Melrose on Sunday, September 13. He was 86. Born in Prince Edward
Island, Canada, and a Melrose resident for 50 years, Mr. Peters was a truck
driver for Friend Brothers, Kiley's, and Stop & Shop companies until his
retirement in 1965. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and St. Mary's
Holy Name Society. Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, Mary (Phalen)
Peters; a son, Leo F. Peters of Melrose; three sisters, Anne
MacEwen, Sarah Fraser, and Louise Brown, all of Canada; a brother,
Alphonsus Peters of Canada; and four granddaughters, Elizabeth, Susan,
Carolyn, and Jennifer Peters. The funeral, from the Gately Funeral
Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, will be on Wednesday, September 16 at 9:15
a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. The
interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

of Guelph, Ontario, Judy (James) Cain of Michigan, USA, Cathy

great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard,
and daughter-in-law, Lynn Brown. Resting at the Hennessey Funeral
Home until 9:45 Monday morning, then transferred to St. Pius X Church for
funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in the family plot at The
Roman Catholic Cemetery. Members of St. Pius X Church C.W.L. will hold a
prayer service at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 6:20 p.m. If so
desired, memorial donations in Louise’s memory may be made to the Queen
Elizabeth Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice. Visiting hours at
the funeral home on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Members of Branch No. 1 of The
Royal Canadian Legion will gather at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 6:45
to hold a veteran’s tribute service for their late comrade.
