Obituary: Mercury-Melrose Evening News (MA), Tuesday, 15 September 1987: Joseph L. Peters died after a lengthy illness at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose on Sunday, September 13. He was 86. Born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and a Melrose resident for 50 years, Mr. Peters was a truck driver for Friend Brothers, Kiley's, and Stop & Shop companies until his retirement in 1965. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and St. Mary's Holy Name Society. Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, Mary (Phalen) Peters; a son, Leo F. Peters of Melrose; three sisters, Anne MacEwen, Sarah Fraser, and Louise Brown, all of Canada; a brother, Alphonsus Peters of Canada; and four granddaughters, Elizabeth, Susan, Carolyn, and Jennifer Peters. The funeral, from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, will be on Wednesday, September 16 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. The interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
