Obituary: Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday 29 October 1974: Funeral services for Leland T. LaShomb, 70, of 51 Douglas Rd., will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. The body is at the Reagan Funeral Chapel. Mr. LaShomb died at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, 1974, in Massena Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient several days. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Phoebe Derouchie LaShomb, five sons, Floyd and Thomas LaShomb, both of Norfolk; Wallace LaShomb, Fort Covington; Alvin LaShomb, in Florida, and Leland LaShomb, Kirkville, NY, 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Myron Fazette, Massena; and Mrs. Robert (Corrine) Miller, Rochester; one brother, Robert LaShomb, Ogdensburg. Mr. LaShomb was born May 1, 1904 in Norwood, a son of Michael and Phoebe Deshane LaShomb. He attended schools in Norwood and Louisville. He was employed at Massena Operations, Alcoa, as a strander operator, and became a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club in 1967. He and Miss Phoebe Derouchie were married Sept. 8, 1924, in St. Agnes, Que. They were honored by their children on their golden wedding anniversary in September with a buffet luncheon at the VFW Hall, with 100 friends and relatives attending.

Obituary: Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 24 October 1985: Funeral services for Phoebe D. LaShomb, 79, of 18 Cecil St., Massena, widow of Leland LaShomb, were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Massena with Rev. Msgr. Floyd J. Brown officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Massena. The Phillips Memorial Home in Massena was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. LaShomb died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 20, 1985) in the emergency room at the Massena Memorial Hospital. Surviving are four sons, Floyd L. and Thomas R., both of Massena, Wallace J. of Ocala, Fla., Leland J. of Kirkville; 35 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace Derouchie of Massena, Medas Derouchie of Arlington,Ont.; five sisters, Rose Hartigan and Emma Spencer, both of Massena, Mary Jane Martin of St. Regis Falls, Marie LaShomb of Chase Mills, Leona LeBlanc of Huntington, N.Y. A son, Alvin, died in 1975. She was born in St. Agnes, Quebec on Nov. 21, 1905, daughter of Wallace and Salina Burnett Derouchie. She married Leland LaShomb on Sept. 8, 1924 in St. Agnes of Dundee Church, with Rev. Garcia-Cure officiating. Mr. LaShomb died in 1974. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and the Ladies Christian Benevolent Association.

3 February 2008: The funeral for Floyd L. LaShomb, 80, of 7
Remington Ave., will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Visitation with
the Rev. Andrew J. Amyot, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Visitation Cemetery. Mr. LaShomb died Friday morning at Massena Memorial
Hospital, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. There are no
calling hours. Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home. Mr. LaShomb
was a machinist at the Aluminum Company of America, now known as Alcoa, for 44
years until retiring in 1989. Born Jan. 28, 1928, son of Leland and
Phoebe Derouchie LaShomb, he graduated from Sacred Heart School, Massena.
He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. LaShomb married Donalda
"Donnie" Martin on Nov. 9, 1946, at Sacred Heart Church, Massena, with the
Rev. Wilfred A. Nugent officiating. Mr. LaShomb was a member of the
Norfolk American Legion, Massena Veterans of Foreign Wars and Amvets.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons and their wives, Lynn P. and
Rochelle, and David A. and Debbie, all of Norwood; a daughter-in-law,
Carol LaShomb, Oregon; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Leland J.,
Syracuse, and Wallace J. and Elaine, Summerfield, Fla., eight
grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Two sons died before him, Floyd "Sal"on
May 11, 1990, and Gary L. on Oct. 24, 2004. Two brothers, Thomas
R. and Alvin J., also died before him. Donations may be made to the
Church of the Visitation, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.

A native of Massena, NY, he moved to Summerfield 30 years ago. Mr. LaShomb was a retired Inspector for Alcoa Aluminum. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, was involved in Neighborhood Watch, enjoyed square dancing, and was a great handy man. Survivors include his wife Elaine of Summerfield; sons Richard LaShomb of Massena, NY, Clark (Gail) LaShomb of Hudson, NY, Glenn (Rosa) LaShomb of Winthrop, NY; step-sons Chris Travers of Malone, NY, Steven (Cindy) Travers of Malone, NY, Mark Travers of Ocala; step-daughter Vicki (Lloyd) Widrick of Orlando, FL; daughter-in-law Mary Pelkey of Ocala; brother Leland LaShomb of Syracuse, NY; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson. He married Jeannine Legault on July 10, 1954. He owned and operated T & L construction of Norfolk. He was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation and a member of the Marine Corps League in Massena. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.

Alvin James Lashomb: Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 17 June 1975: Funeral services for Alvin J. LaShomb, 41, former Massena resident, will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at Sacred Heart Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. The body is at the Reagan Funeral Chapel with calling hours Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9. Mr. LaShomb, a computer technician, died unexpectedly Friday, June 13,1975, in Calahan, Fla. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eileen Johnson LaShomb; four sons, Guy, John, Kevin and James LaShomb, and two daughters, Maureen and Kathleen LaShomb, all in Beacon, N.Y.; his mother, Mrs. Phoebe Derouchie LaShomb, Douglas Rd.; four brothers, Floyd and Thomas LaShomb, both of Norfolk, Wallace LaShomb, Fort Covington, and Leland LaShomb, Kirkville. His father, Leland T. LaShomb died Oct. 25, 1974, at the age of 70 years. Mr. LaShomb was born in Massena Mar. 30, 1934, attended Massena High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army May 10, 1950 for a three year tour of duty. In late 1952, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and was stationed with the 96th Machine Records Unit in Korea, attached to the Eighth Army Headquarters. He had also spent some time in Tokyo in the Far East Command.

He was born in Massena, NY. Leland retired from UPS in 1994, where he was a driver for 25 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola; his son, Randy; daughter, Cynthia; brothers Wally, Tom, Floyd and Alvin; as well as his parents, Leland and Phoebe. He is survived by his daughter, Terri (Jim) Jenkins of TN; two sons, Alan of Kirkville and Brian (Ame) of Minoa; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
