Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 21 April 1970:  Funeral services for Lawrence John Peets, 64, Helena, were held at 12:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Phillips Memorial Home with burial in Calvary Cemetery.  Mr. Peets was dead on arrival at Massena Memorial at 12:01 Thursday morning, Apr. 16, 1970.  He had returned home from the hospital Monday.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Fregoe Peets, N. Main St.; six sons, Ira, Paul, Vern, Glenn, Gary and Dale Peets, all of Massena; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Sally) Gough, Watertown, Mrs. Artie (Janet) Premo, Massena.  Mr. Peets was born June 5, 1905, in Massena, a son of Frank and Elizabeth Hammill Peets.  He attended Massena schools and worked as a mechanic for the town of Massena.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 18 May 1971:  Mrs. Frances Fregoe Peets, 63, of 101 N. Main St., widow of Lawrence J. Peets, was dead on arrival at Massena Memorial Hospital at 10:50 o'clock Sunday morning, May 15, 1971.  She had been in failing health some time.  The body is at the Phillips Memorial Home.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.  Surviving are six sons, Ira, Paul, Vern, Gary, Glenn and Dale Peets, all of Massena; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Sally) Gough, Watertown, and Mrs. Arthur (Janet) Premo, Massena; nine grandchildren, five brothers, Moses Fregoe, Daytona Beach, Fla.; Harold, Ferris, and Andrew Fregoe, all of Massena; Daniel Fregoe, Brasher; five sisters, Mrs. Mayfred Doud, Louisville; Mrs. Leon (Ethel) LaShomb, Mrs. Hazel Burnie, Mrs. Romeo (Ada) Patnode, all of Massena; and Mrs. Roy (Eleanor) White, Stockholm.  She was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.  She was born at Massena Center Mar. 30, 1908, a daughter of Jerry and Mary Jane Kirkey Frego.  She attended Massena Schools and was married to Lawrence J. Peets.  He died Apr. 16, 1970.

 

Misc.:

17 September 1940, Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday:  Ira Peets, 13, son of Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence Peets, Racket River, is making a satisfactory recovery from an operation performed at Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg.  The child suffered an injury at his parents’ home last week which made the operation necessary.  He was running from the barn to the house and happened to run into a corner of the corn binder, striking himself in the abdomen.  At first it was believed that the injury was not serious but his condition became worse and he was taken to the hospital in a car owned by Mrs. Bessie Hitchcock, Racket River.  It was found that he had suffered ruptures of the intestines and an operation was performed.

Ira James Peets:  Massena Observer (NY), 15 February 2015:  Ira J. Peets was born on November 30, 1926 in Massena, eldest of eight children of Lawrence and Frances Fregoe Peets.  He married Marion June Scott on August 28, 1946.  He married Margaret R. Pullmain in the late 1960’s.  For a time, they owned and operated the Albion Hotel on South Main Street, Massena.  He was a master welder.  He loved to tell about welding the huge doors of Eisenhower Lock.  After the completion of the Seaway project, Ira opened his own business on Town Line Road, Peets’ Marine Sales, where he sold boats, Mercury outboard motors, and Sterling trailers.  In later years he worked for General Motors, and still later, took a position at Reynolds Metals.  Surviving was his longtime companion, Ann Canfield; two daughters, Susan Stefens and Joanne DeMichele; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Vern and Glen Peets.  He was predeceased by siblings Paul, Sally, Dale, Gary, and Janet.

Paul Francis Peets:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 21 April 1981:  Massena - A Libra service for Paul F. Peets, 52, of 43 Maple St., was held Saturday morning at 10:30 at Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Michael Maloney officiating.  Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.  The Donaldson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Mr. Peets died Thursday morning at Massena Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since April 13.  He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a son, Paul (Stanley) Jr., of Massena; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Charlene) Wilson of Massena; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Glen (Sally) Gough, of Watertown, and Mrs. Janet Booth of Massena; five brothers, Ira, Glenn, Gary, Vern, and Dale, all of Massena; and several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Peets was born on July 31, 1928, the son of Lawrence J. and Frances Frego Peets.  He attended Massena schools and married Lorraine Flynn on Nov. 26, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Michael Jarecki officiating.  Mr. Peets was a body and fender worker at Corky's Collision in Massena for many years.  He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Vern Robert Peets:  Massena: Vern R. Peets, age 91, passed away on May 14, 2021 at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  The family has entrusted the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena with the care and handling of Vern Peets.  There will be no calling hours or funeral services.  Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

 

Glenn A. Peets:  Watertown Times (NY), 29 April 2018:  Glenn A. Peets - He was a son of Lawrence and Frances (Fregoe) Peets.  He married Helen Bertrand on 10/27/1951 at Sacred Heart Church.  She died on 5/4/2015.  He operated dairy farms for several years, retired, then worked as a foreman for the Village of Massena Department of Public Works.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Massena Senior Citizens.  He was survived by his four sons, Craig A., John M. (Karen), Randy L., and William G.; four grandchildren; and a brother, Vern Peets.  He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Ira, Gary, Paul, Dale, Sally Gough, and Janet Booth.

 

Sally R. Peets:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 8 December 1988:  Watertown:  A prayer service for Sally R. Gough, 56, of 1526 State St., and formerly of Massena, will be held today at 10 a.m. at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home with Msgr. Robert J. McCarthy officiating.  Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.  Mrs. Gough died Monday, Dec. 5, 1988, at her home after an apparent suicide.  Surviving are: her husband, Glenn H. Gough, who has been director of programming at WNPE-WNPI television since 1979; a son, Steven of Albany; five brothers, Ira Peets, Vern Peets, Gary Peets, Dale Peets and Glenn Peets, all of Massena; a sister, Mrs. Frederick (Janet) Booth of Massena; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother, Paul Peets.  Mrs. Gough was born in Massena on July 24, 1932, the daughter of Lawrence and Frances Fregoe Peets.  She graduated from Massena High School and married Glenn Gough on Aug. 11, 1951 at St. Joseph's rectory, Massena with Rev. Harold Skelly officiating.  She was employed as a secretary at Alcoa, moving to Watertown with her husband in July 1959 when he left a post at WMSA Radio to become an announcer and sports director at WWNY-TV.  She had also owned and operated a beauty shop in Watertown for a time.  She was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a member of the Christian Women's Association, and a volunteer in Mercy Hospital's Companions in Caring program.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

 

Gary E. Peets:  Massena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Wednesday, 5 July 2006:  Massena - Funeral services for Gary E. Peets, 66, of 378 County Route 46, Massena, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena with the Rev. J. Michael Gaffney presiding.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.  Calling hours will be held Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home.  Mr. Peets died Sunday (July 2, 2006) at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.  He is survived by three brothers, Ira Peets of Massena, Vern Peets of Brewerton, and Glenn Peets of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers, Sally Gough, Janet Booth, and Paul and Dale Peets.  Mr. Peets was born on Dec. 23, 1939 in Massena, the son of Lawrence and Frances (Fre-goe) Peets.  He worked for Local No. 545 as an operating engineer for 30 years, retiring in 1987.

Dale H. Peets:  Massena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Tuesday, 3 October 2000:  Massena - Funeral services for Dale H. Peets Sr., 57, of 378 County Route 46, Massena will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Massena, with Rev. Richard Williams officiating.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.  A Vigil Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Mr. Peets died on Saturday (Sept. 30, 2000) at his home.  He had been ill with cancer.  He is survived by his wife, Rae Lee; two sons and daughter in laws, Dale Jr. and Deidra Peets, and Terry and Darcy Peets, all of Massena; a daughter, Mrs. John (Tammy) Finnegan of Massena; four grandchildren, Michael Paul Collins, Andrew, Kayla and Joshua Peets, all of Massena; four brothers, Ira, Vern, Glenn and Gary Peets, all of Massena; and one sister, Janet Booth of Massena.  He was predeceased by a brother, Paul, and a sister, Sally Gough.  He was born on March 6, 1943 in Massena, the son of Lawrence and Frances Fregoe Peets.  He attended Massena High School.  He married Rae Lee Premo on July 25, 1964 at St. Raymond's Church, Raymondville, by Rev. Monsignor Waterhouse.  He worked construction for many years with Donald Dutcher, and was later employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Town of Massena Highway Department.  He was a member of the sportsman's club for 37 years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed helping to build his children's homes.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Manfred officiating.  Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.  Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Mrs. Booth died Sunday April 27, 2003 at home under the care of her husband and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.  She is survived by her husband, Frederick L.; two sons, Frederick A. of Edmonton, Alberta, and Brian P. and his wife, Jenna of Lemington, Ont.; four brothers, Ira Peets and Glenn Peets, both of Massena, Vern Peets of Syracuse, and Gary Peets of Ogdensburg; and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, Mathew and Caroline Janet, all of Lemington, Ont., and Holly of Edmonton, Alberta.  She was predeceased two brothers, Paul Peets and Dale Peets; and one sister, Sally Gough.  She was born Sept. 24, 1949, in Massena, the daughter of Lawrence and Francis (Fre- goe) Peets.  She graduated from Massena High School and Chris Shelle School of Cosmetology, Watertown.  She worked as a hairdresser for 32 years and managed the Hair Design Salon in Massena.  She married Frederick L. Booth on May 23, 1976.  She enjoyed painting and boating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
