Misc.:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 6 June 1948:  Desmar Pitre, 58 years old highway workman of Opelousas, is in St. Landry clinic here with a fractured right leg, bruises and lacerations of the face, and possible internal injuries, as the result of his being struck by an automobile as he worked on the highway netween Arnaudville and Leonville.  Mr. Pitre's condition is not presently considered serious by attendants, however he is expected to be hospitalized for some time.  Mr. Pitre stepped off the state-owned highway motor patrol he was operating, according to Alan Hebert, sole witness who was working with Mr. Pitre on the machine, and was struck by a car driven by a man whom Mr. Hebert said was David Thibodeaux of Arnaudville.  Hr. Hebert said that his back was turned at the time of the accident and he did not see the impact.  He heard the noise of the automobile brakes being applied, and turned to see Mr. Pitre lying on his face in the gravel.  Mr. Thibodeaux was driving from Arnaudville toward Leonville, and he was accompanied in the car by his sister.  Mr. Hebert and Mr. Thibodeaux picked up Mr. Pitre and he was later transferred to a Lafond and Son ambulance and taken to the clinic.  Mr. Pitre's son, Lionel, and a nephew, A.C. Dupre, were with him at the clinic yesterday morning.
