Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 6 April 1997:  Funeral services for Mr. Lionel Pitre, 82, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Burial took place in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.  The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi officiated.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Opelousas, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 1997, in Columbia Doctors' Hospital in Opelousas following a short illness.  He was retired from the Louisiana Highway Department.  Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Virgie Moreau Pitre of Opelousas; two sons, Raphael Pitre of Port Barre and Kenny J. Pitre of Opelousas; a sister, Elfie Pitre of Lafayette; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Velma Pitre Wyble; one brother, Hershie Pitre; two sisters, Corry Young and Inez Bertrand; and a great-grandson, Christopher Pitre.  Visitation was held Friday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Saturday.  A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Road, Opelousas, was in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 2 March 2010:  Opelousas - Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Opelousas, for Virgie Pitre, 91, the former Virgie Moreau, who passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:45 a.m., at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.  Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.  The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels, will officiate at the services.  Mrs. Pitre was a native of Swords and a resident of Opelousas for most of her life.  Survivors include two sons, Kenny Pitre and his wife, Cindy, of Opelousas, and Ray Pitre and his wife, Ginger, of Port Barre; one brother; one sister; five grandchildren, Alex Pitre, Sam Pitre, Ronnie Pitre, Mike Pitre, and Donna Pitre; eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel Pitre; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Moreau; one daughter, Velma Pitre Wyble; ten brothers and sisters; and two great-grandchildren, Debbie Lafleur and Bobby Lafleur.  A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home by Rev. Angelo Cremaldi.  The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Monday and will continue from 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.  Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Velma Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 27 February 1994:  Funeral services for Velma Wyble, 56, will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church with burial after in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell.  Mrs. Wyble (the former Velma Pitre), a resident of Opelousas, died at 10:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 1994, at Opelousas General Hospital after a lengthy illness.  Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. till the time of service today.  Father Mike Russo will conduct services.  Survivors include: her husband Adrian Wyble of Opelousas; her parents, Lionel and Vergie Pitre of Opelousas; one son, John Keith Lafluer of Opelousas; one daughter, Deborah Ann Lafluer of Opelousas; two brothers, Rapheal Pitre of Port Barre and Kenneth James Pitre of Opelousas; and three grandchildren.  The family requests donations to help towards funeral and cemetery expenses.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
