Misc:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Thursday, 11 October 1934:  Winthrop, Oct. 11 - When Robert Calnan, Robert Wood, Vernon Guertin and John Connolly were on their way to the movies in Massena about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when they noticed the fire in the shed part of the house of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Lashombe on South Main street, Massena.  Going to the nearest gas station, they called the fire department and hurried back to assist the family.  Entering the home, they saw Mrs. Lashombe coming down the stairs with the baby in her arms.  They rushed upstairs and brought down four children.  Mr. Lashombe had awakened and brought out two others.

 

Obituary:  Ogdensburg Advance (NY), Sunday, 11 October 1992:  Lawrenceville - Funeral services for Leon A. LaShomb, 90, LBSH Housing, Brasher, formerly of Andrews Street, Massena, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Church, Massena, with the Rev. Albert Plante, officiating.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  Calling hours will be at Phillips Memorial Home, Massena, this afternoon and evening.  Mr. LaShomb died Saturday (Oct. 10, 1992) at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena, where he was a resident since Aug. 3, 1992.  Mr. LaShomb is survived by six sons, Victor and Clement, Massena, Harvey, Lawrenceville, Hugh, Cherokee, N.C., Earl, Phoenix, Az., and Clark, Norfolk; one daughter, Mrs. Eileen Farnsworth, Norwood; 53 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Light, Wilmington, and Gladys Foss, Lancaster, N.H.  He was predeceased by two sons, Wayne, in 1975, and Stanley, in 1992.  He was born July 15, 1902, in Brasher, son of William and Anna Harriman LaShomb.  He was educated in Brasher schools, and married Ethel Frego on June 18, 1918, at the Sacred Heart Church, by the Rev. Msgr. Timothy P. Holland.  Mrs. LaShomb died July 21, 1972.  He was employed at Alcoa from 1954-56, and later by Sacred Heart Church.  He retired as a custodian from Holy Family High School in Massena in 1965.

Obituary:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 25 July 1972:  Mrs. Leon A. LaShombMrs. Ethel S. Frego LaShomb, 68, wife of Leon A. LaShomb, Andrews St. Rd., died in Massena Memorial Hospital at 4:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, July 21, 1972.  She entered the hospital July 16.  She had been in failing health several years and had been hospitalized a number of occasions.  The body is at the Phillips Memorial Home.  Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.  Surviving are the husband; eight sons, Victor LaShomb, Brasher, Harvey LaShomb, Lawrenceville, Hugh LaShomb, Cherokee, N. Car., Earl LaShomb, Phoenix, Ariz., Stanley LaShomb, Potsdam, Clark LaShomb, Norfolk, Clement and Wayne LaShomb, both of Massena; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Eileen) Farnsworth, Prescott, Ariz.; 47 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Mayfred Doud, Louisville, Mrs. Romeo (Ada) Patenaude and Mrs. Hazel Burney, both of Massena, and Mrs. Roy (Eleanor) White, Potsdam; five brothers, Harold, Andrew and Ferris Frego, all of Massena area, Daniel Frego, Brasher, and Mose Frego in Florida.  Mrs. LaShomb was born July 26, 1903, in Massena, a daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Kirkey Frego.  She attended Massena schools and was married to Leon A. LaShomb June 18, 1923 in Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Timothy P. Holland then pastor officiating.  They lived in Massena, then in Grantville 20 years, then returned to Massena in about 1955.  For the past 15 years they have lived on the Andrews St. Rd.  Mrs. LaShomb was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Victor L. Lashomb:  Victor L. LaShomb, age 93 of East Hatfield St. passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017.  Friends and family will be received on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm at Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.  Victor’s funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday December 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Massena with Rev. Mark Reilly presiding.  Interment will be held in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Brasher Falls.  Victor is survived by his wife of 72 years, Pauline Crump, and two brothers, Clark and Earl LaShomb; eight children, Linda and Deacon Tom Proulx of Massena; Louise Fregoe and her companion Thomas Premo of Massena; Deacon Darrell and Beth LaShomb of Newark, Delaware; Jay and Claire LaShomb of Brasher Falls; Audrey Anderson and her companion John Perry, Jr. of Massena; Dorothea “Dot” and Keith Tyo of Morrisonville, NY; Adele Kalan of Mars, PA; Valerie and Jeffrey Munson of Massena, along with 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and the expectation of a great-great-granddaughter.  He was predeceased by his son Ronald and granddaughter Erica Kalan, and five brothers and a sister, Harvey, Hugh, Wayne, Stanley, Clement LaShomb and Eileen Farnsworth.  Victor was born in Massena on March 30, 1924 to the late Leon and Ethel Fregoe LaShomb.  He graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy, Brasher Falls, NY in 1943.  He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII.

 

Harvey James Lashomb:  Hammill Funeral Home (NY): November 17, 1925 - December 3, 2013:  Brasher Falls - Mr. Harvey J. LaShomb, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday December 3, 2013 in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his family and hospice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.  Harvey was born in Massena on November 17, 1925 to the late Leon A. and Ethel S. (Fregoe) LaShomb.  He was raised and educated locally; attending Sacred Heart School in Massena, District 6 in Norfolk, and St. Joseph’s Academy in Brasher Falls.  On January 18, 1944 Harvey was inducted into the US Army; WWII 409th Infantry of the 103rd division, also known as the “Cactus” division.  He proudly served his country with pride and excellence; always having reverence for and remembering December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day.  Harvey was honorably discharged on January 2, 1946.  Harvey married A. Barbara Phelix on May 11, 1946 at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, with Fr. Cotter officiating.  They shared in life together building a family and home filled with dedication, love, and laughter.  They were joined in a blessed union for 44 years, until the time of Barbara’s passing on October 8, 1990.  For 43 years Harvey worked as a crane driver at ALCOA, retiring March 1, 1987.  Harvey was blessed with a friendly personality and spirit.  He loved to attend social events and even more enjoyed the good conversation.  His ability for striking up a conversation was often paired with the buying or selling of raffle tickets that he was also very fond of.  Harvey liked card games, never turning down a good game of pitch.  He frequently bowled at Gervais Lanes in Moira, and at one time was an avid hunter.  Those who knew and loved him will always remember him for being a people person and he will be greatly missed.  Harvey was extremely active in his community belonging to many organizations.  He was a past assessor for the Town of Lawrence, serving for 8 years.  A member of: VFW Post# 793, American Legion Post#514, K of C Post# 2176, Moose Lodge#1110, Honorary Elk Lodge#1702, Charter Member of Lawrenceville Fire Department; serving as treasurer for many years, St. Regis Falls Sportsman’s Club, ALCOA 25 year Club, and the Moira Bowling League, where he was inducted to the Hall of Fame.  He was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence, serving as a trustee for several years.  He is survived by 4 sons: Keith LaShomb of Hiwassee, VA., John and Sharon LaShomb of Lawrenceville, Gordon and Carolyn LaShomb of Nicholville, and Nelson and Marilyn LaShomb of Brushton, 3 daughters: Kathleen LaShomb of Johnson City, TN., Lucille and LeRoy Jock of North Lawrence, and Karen and Anthony Tipton of Johnson City TN., 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers: Victor and Pauline LaShomb of Massena, Earl and Mia LaShomb of Paxton, AZ., and Clark and June LaShomb of Norfolk, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Harvey was predeceased by, his son Jerome “Jerry” LaShomb on August 1, 2009, brothers Hugh, Wayne, Stanley, and Clement LaShomb, sister Eileen Farnsworth, and 2 infant sisters: Mary and Lucille.  Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8.  Harvey’s Funeral Service and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday December 7, at 11:00am, at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence with Fr. Hugh William Lashomb:  Smoky Mountain Times, Tuesday, 1 June 2010:  Hugh William LaShomb, 83, of Cherokee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday May 29, 2010 at Cherokee Indian Hospital.  LaShomb was born in Massena, N.Y. on Nov. 10, 1926.  He was the son of the late Leon LaShomb and Ethel Fregoe LaShomb.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Myrtle Youngbird LaShomb, whom he married in 1948 at the Catholic Church in Biloxi, Miss.  He attended Sacred Heart School in Massena, N.Y., St. Joseph Academy Brasher, N.Y. and Southwestern Community College in Sylva.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1947 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1970.  He worked at Cherokee Post Office for 14 years from 1974 to 1988.  Hugh was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cherokee, American Legion, VFW, Lions Club, and the Air Force Sergeants Association.  He is survived by four brothers: Earl and wife Mia LaShomb of Phoenix, Victor and wife Pauline LaShomb of Massena, N.Y., Harvey LaShomb of Brasher Falls, N.Y., and Clark and wife June LaShomb of Norfolk, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Youngbird Beck of Cherokee, and 53 nieces and nephews.  Mass of Christian Burial was at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cherokee on Tuesday with burial in the Jarrett Blythe Cemetery.  Military rites were conducted by the Steve Youngdeer American Legion Post 143 Cherokee.  The family received friends Tuesday at the church.  Crisp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

 

Eileen Mary Lashomb:  Massena Daily Courier Observer, Wednesday, 13 April 2005:  Norwood - Memorial services for Eileen Mary Farnsworth,77, of the Whiteford Adult Home in Hermon and formerly of Norwood and Phoenix, Ariz., will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with the Rev. Lee Sweeney, pastor of the Knapps Station Community Church, and the Rev. Monsignor Harry Snow, pastor of St. Andrews Church in Norwood, officiating.  Calling hours will be Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral at the Buck Funeral Home.  Mrs. Farnsworth died Monday morning (April 11, 2005) at the Whiteford Adult Home.  She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Farnsworth of Norwood, and Mrs. Sandra Martin of Norwood; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Clark LaShomb of Norfolk, Hugh LaShomb of Cherokee, N.C., Earl LaShomb of Phoenix, Ariz., Victor LaShomb of Massena, and Harvey LaShomb of Winthrop.  She was predeceased by three brothers, Clement, Wayne and Stanley LaShomb.  Mrs. Farnsworth was born on Feb. 18, 1928 in Massena, the daughter of Leon and Ethel Fregoe LaShomb.  She married Donald Raymond Farnsworth on Dec. 29, 1946.  He died on May 9, 1976.  She was a homemaker.  Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.

 

Wayne A. Lashomb:  Potsdam Courier and Freeman, Tuesday, 7 October 1975:  Wayne LaShomb:  Services for Wayne A. LaShomb, 46, of 56 Prospect Street in Norwood, who died unexpectedly Wednesday night at his home were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Church in Norwood.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.  LaShomb was declared dead at the Potsdam Unit of the Central St. Lawrence Health Services where he was rushed.  He was born in Massena, May 28, 1929 the son of Leon A. LaShomb of Massena and the late Ethel Fregoe LaShomb.  He attended schools in Brasher Falls, joined the U.S. Air Force June 22, 1948 and served in the Berlin Air Lift and occupation forces in Germany.  He was honorably discharged June 21, 1952 at Westover Air Force Base as a Staff Sergeant, Senior Air Transportation Specialist.  Employed by General Motors Plant, he became disabled in 1969 following an industrial accident at the plant.  He and Anita Beaulieu were married November 22, 1952 in Sacred Heart Church in Massena.  He was a member of St. Andrew's Church in Norwood and a member of the St. Lawrence Lodge 1141, Knights of Columbus in Massena.  Surviving is his widow; his father, Leon LaShomb, Massena; three sons, Calvin, currently in the USAF in Maine, Scott, 11 and Bruce 9; four daughters, Mrs. Michael (Rose Ann) Farnsworth, Potsdam, Mary Jane 19, Nancy 17, and Susan 15 at home; one sister, Eileen Farnsworth, Arizona; seven brothers, Victor, Brasher, Harvey, North Lawrence, Hugh, North Carolina, Clark, Norfolk, Earl, Arizona, Stanley, Potsdam, Clement, Massena and several nieces and nephews.

 

Stanley Lashomb:  Massena Daily Courier Observer, Thursday, 26 March 1992:  Potsdam - Funeral services for Stanley J. Lashomb Sr., 60, of 48 May Road, Potsdam, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam with the Rev. John Murphy officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  Calling hours will be Thursday afternoon and evening at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.  Mr. Lashomb died 4:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon (March 24, 1992) at his home.  He is survived by his wife, Katherine; his father, Leon A. Lashomb of Brasher; a son, Stanley J. Jr. of Potsdam; five daughters, Mrs. Steven (Cindy) Guptcill of Potsdam, Mrs. Ted (Debbie) Muller of Edison, N.J., Charmaine L. Lashomb of Pleasanton, Calif., Mary Ellen and Michelle E., both of Potsdam; six brothers, Victor and Clement of Massena, Harvey of Lawrenceville, Hugh of Cherokee, N.C., Earl of Phoenix, Ariz., Clarke of Norfolk; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne, in 1975.  He was born in Massena Sept. 18, 1931, son of Leon and Ethel Fregoe.   He was a graduate of Brasher High School.  He served in the Army in the Korean Conflict.  Following his discharge, he was employed at Alcoa.  He then worked for Foley's Supply as a sales representative and in 1975 he established St. Lawrence Supply in Potsdam, retiring in 1987.  He married the former Katherine Calipari on Aug. 21, 1954, in St. Mary's Church, Massena.  He was very active in St. Mary's Church, Potsdam, on the financial committee.  He was an usher at at the parish.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1194, Potsdam, and he was also a member of the Potsdam Elks Lodge in 2074.

LaShomb Sr., 54, of 397 County Route 37, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.  Mr. LaShomb died Monday (Oct. 11, 1999) at Massena Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia; a son, Staff Sgt. Clement LaShomb, Camp Lejuene, N.C.; a sister, Eileen Farnsworth, Norwood; four brothers, Victor, Massena, Harvey, North Lawrence, Hugh, Cherokee, N.C., Earl, Phoenix, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Tracey, and two brothers, Stanley and Wayne. He was born July 31, 1945 in Massena, the son of Leon and Ethel (Fregoe) LaShomb.  He graduated from Massena High School.  He married Patricia Kellison on May 16, 1964 at St. Lawrence Church in Louisville by Rev. Crabold.  He started employment at Alcoa in 1965.  He worked as a truck dispatcher.  He was a member of the 25 year Club at Alcoa and the Norfolk and Louisville Rod and Gun Clubs.
