Death Notice:  The Minneapolis Journal (Minneapolis, MN), Wednesday, 17th November 1937:  Car Skids on Icy Road, Kills Driver - Crookston, Minn., Nov. 17 - Gaspard Lajamb, 56, farmer and stock buyer near Oklee, was killed when his car skidded on an icy highway seven miles north of Gully, in eastern Polk county.  His death was the eleventh automobile fatality in Polk county in 1937.

Joseph Albert Lajambe:  Star Phoenix (Saskatoon, SASK), Monday, 18 November 1996:  Lajambe - The passing of Mr. Albert LaJambe, age 91 years of Saskatoon, SK, occurred on Saturday, November 16, 1996 at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK.  Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.  Arrangements are in care of Park Funeral Chapel.

 

Ida 'Ada' Lajambe:  The Evening Times (Grand Forks, ND), Saturday, 4 May 1912:  Red Lake Falls Gazette: The 6 year old child of Gaspard LaJambe was burned to death last week.  She was sent to throw some rubbish from the yard into a pile of burning straw, and the flames caught her dress.  The mother was badly burned about the face and arms and succeeded in extinguishing the flames in the child's clothing; but death mercifully ended the little one's suffering about 6:30 the same evening.

 

Rena Lajambe:  Anchorage Daily News (AK), Saturday, 12 September 2009:  Rena Culhane.  June 24, 1907 - Sept. 9, 2009:  Longtime Alaskan Rena Culhane, 102, died peacefully Sept. 9, 2009, at home.  A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Cathedral.  Archbishop Francis T. Hurley will preside, assisted by the Rev. Michael Hornick.  Burial will follow at noon Tuesday at Anchorage Memorial Park.  She was the oldest of her 11 siblings.  On Dec. 24, 1933, Rena came by boat to Alaska and met her fiance, Tom Culhane, in Seward.  Tom and Rena went on to raise their family and build their family business, Anchorage Refuse.  Rena had many hobbies: award-winning flower gardens, paintings, and crafts including ceramics and doll making.  Rena loved gardening and often had an award-winning flower garden when she lived on Ninth Avenue in Anchorage, but when she and Tom moved in 1962 to Boniface Parkway, she turned her interests to vegetable gardening.  This worked very well with her other great love, cooking.  No one ever left her house hungry.  Rena is survived by her sons, Thomas Culhane of Anchorage and Gerald Culhane of Sequim, Wash.; her daughter, Marguerite Culhane of Eagle River; her granddaughters, Heather, Sabrina, Jerrica, Corena, Tanya, Saran and Tricia Culhane; grandsons, Tim and Brian Culhane; sister, Alice Morresette of Bemidje, Minn.; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Rena was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, Jack; grandchildren, Patrick and Katya; and great-granddaughter, Mara Culhane.  Rena was also preceded in death by her brothers, Albert, Walter, Lester and Edmond La Jambe; and her sisters, Marie, Rose, Evelyn, Bernadette, and Antoinette.  Arrangements are under the direction of Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Edmund Lajambe:  Thief River Falls Times (MN), 5 January 1999:  Oklee - Edmund "Ed" LaJambe, 90, died Tuesday, January 5, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee with Reverend Robert Paulson officiating.  Marian Marquis was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Donna Sherman and LaVonne Enerson.  Casketbearers were Edmund's grandsons: Wade Piccolo, Jason Knutson, Brett Gonsior, Benji Hofstad, Eddie Piccolo, Ryan Gonsior and Darrin Hofstad.  Honorary casketbearers were his granddaughters: Jacquie Knutson Kuennen, Angele Gonsior Stewart, Kelli Jo Hofstad, Danielle LaJambe and Haley LaJambe.  Burial was in Zion Cemetery near Oklee. The Petterson Funeral Home of Oklee was in charge of the arrangements.  Edmund LaJambe was born on May 26, 1908 in Lambert township of Red Lake county, the son of Gaspard and Adeline (Langlois) LaJambe.  He grew up in Lambert township and attended country school.  Ed worked at several jobs and later worked in Anchorage, AK for sometime.  On October 24, 1939 he married Doris Riel in Oklee.  The couple lived on a farm near Trail for nine years.  In 1948 they moved to Oklee where Ed worked for the Red Lake County Highway Department for 23 years.  Ed's interests included horses and gardening.  He enjoyed playing cards, telling stories and spending time with his family.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.  Survivors include his wife, Doris of Oklee; four daughters, Barbara (Terry) Knutson of Bloomington, Betty (Joe) Piccolo of Becker, LaVonne (Gene) Gross of River Falls, WI, and Ardis (Rene) Hofstad of Oklee; two sons, Robert LaJambe of Red Lake Falls and Jon (Karen) LaJambe of Eagan; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rena Culhane of Anchorage, AK, Antoinette Alexander of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Alice (Edward) Morressette of Bemidji; and one brother, Walter (Gladys) LaJambe of "The Pas" Manitoba, Canada.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; an infant grandson, Jeremy; five sisters, Ada LaJambe, Evelyn Loiland, Rose Varin, Bernadette Howden and Marie LaMout; and three brothers, Albert LaJambe, Edward LaJambe and Lester LaJambe.
 

Rose Lajambe:  The Oregonian (OR), Monday, 12 October 1998:  Rose L. Varin - A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, in Ascension Catholic Church for Rose L. Varin, who died Oct. 7 at age 89.  Mrs. Varin was born June 22, 1909, in Brooks, Minn.  Her maiden name was LaJambe.  She moved to Oregon in 1941 and worked as a welder in the Portland shipyards during World War II.  She later worked as a baker in Alaska for 15 years until retiring and moving back to the Portland area during the mid-1970s.  She attended the church.  She married Hector E. in 1924; he died in 1973.  Survivors include her sons, Ren of Portland, Paul of Thousand Palms, Calif., and Tom of Gresham; daughters, Theresa Hansen of Hernet, Calif., and Beatrice "Bea" Hazlett of Portland; brothers, Ed LaJambe of Oaklee, Minn., and Walter LaJambe of Canada; sisters, Alice Morrissette of Bemidji, Minn., Toni Alexander of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Rena Culhane of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  Entombment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum.  The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society.  Arrangements are by Gable & Parkrose Funeral Chapel.

Lester Lawrence Lajambe:  Grand Forks Herald (ND), Monday, 24 April 1995:  Lester LaJambe, 78, Brooks, died Friday, April 21, 1995, in a fire in his home.  Lester Lawrence LaJambe was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Lambert Township, Red Lake County, Minn., the son of Gaspard and Adeline (Langlois) LaJambe.  He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.  He worked in construction in Alaska for several years, then returned to farm the home farm.  He retired in 1991.  He is survived by brothers, Albert, Saskatoon, Sask., Edmund, Oklee, Minn., and Walter, The Pas, Man.; sisters, Rena (Mrs. Tom) Culhane, Anchorage, Alaska, Rose Varin and Bernadette Howden, borth of Portland, Ore., Antoinette Alexander, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Alice (Mrs. Edward) Morrisette, Bemidji; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn, Marie and Ada; and brother, Edward.  Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Oklee.  Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Petterson Funeral Home, Oklee.  The VFW of Trail, Minn., will present military honors.  Burial: St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, near Oklee.

 

Alice Lajambe:  Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home:  Alice Morrisette, 95, of Bemidji, MN, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.  Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, with Fr. Craig Vasek officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.  Alice LaJambe was born October 21, 1917 in Brooks, MN to Gaspard & Adeline (Langlois) LaJambe.  She grew up and attended school in Brooks, MN.  On April 8, 1940, she married Edward Morrisette in Oklee, MN.  They lived in Bemidji where she raised her family.  She enjoyed making quilts, baking, cooking and gardening.  She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Gerald) Giese, of New Boston, MI; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; son, Raymond; brothers and sisters.
