Born in Boston, he was a son of the late John A. and Annabelle MaCauley Peters. He was a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, attended Columbia University and Northeastern University, and was a World War II and Korean conflict veteran. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. John. Surviving is a son, Irving W. D. Peters of Charleston. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with burial in Live Oak Cemetery of Walterboro. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Fred Parker Funeral Home of Walterboro.

Peters, 68, who died yesterday. He was retired Chief of the Property Rehabilitation Branch of the General Service Administration, and has been chairman of the Arlington Board of Health since 1969. He served in World War II as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. Peters, a resident of Arlington for many years, graduated from Arlington High School in 1928. He attended Chauncy Hall, Boston University School of Medicine, and was graduated from Tufts University. He leaves his wife Eleanor (Hill), three children, John M. Jr., Lisa K. of Arlington, and Andrea P. Rush of Conn.; a sister Helen V. O'Rourke of Rockport, and a brother Col. F. I. Peters of Carlisle.
