MISC:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Saturday, 23 May 1992:  Winthrop - Mr. and Mrs. Harlow LaShomb, Route 1, and Port Salerno, Fla., will observe their 67th wedding anniversary Monday.  Mr. LaShomb, son of Frank and Sarah LaShomb, and Clara Parker, daughter of Noah and Mary Parker, were married May 25, 1925, at Brasher Falls.  Mrs. LaShomb was employed at hospitals in Norwich and Tupper Lake.  She is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Mr. LaShomb worked on farms before moving to Sherburne.  He was then employed by Agway and later as a mechanic.  Mr. LaShomb is a member of the Masons.  The couple has five children, Gerald, North Carolina, Sherwood, South Carolina, Robert, Virginia, Lillian Sawyer, Sherburne, and Sarah Rock, Peru.  They also have 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  A son, Harlow Jr., is deceased.

 

Obituary:  Massena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Tuesday, 1 August 1995:  Ogdensburg - Funeral services for Harlow W. LaShomb, 93, of the United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, and formerly of Hopkinton, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.  Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Stockholm.  Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Mr. LaShomb died Friday evening (July 28,1995) at United Helpers Nursing Home.  Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Florance of Pinehurst, N.C., Sherwood and Viola of Charlotte, N.C., Robert and Irish of Danville, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sawyer of Port Salerno, Fla., Mrs. Mark (Sarah) Drew of Cambridge, Vt.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald LaShomb of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Henrietta Bell of Ogdensburg, Mayfred Bietch and Murial Yurch, both of Pearl River, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Clara on May 21, 1995; son, Harlow jr. on April 19, 1983; two brothers, Seward and Kenneth; three sisters, Lila Van Tassel, DeNora Towers and Lillian LaShomb.  Mr. LaShomb was born on Jan. 28, 1902, in the town of Brasher, son of Franklin and Sarah Perault LaShomb.  He married Clara Angeline Parker of Nicholville at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church on May 25, 1925 by the Rev. Theo Wells.  He was a driver og GLF/Agway in Sherwood, and had been a mechanic at Anderson Motors in Norwich.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Norwich.  Mr. and Mrs. LaShomb lived in Norwich from 1942 until 1970, and had spent winters in Port Salerno and summers in Winthrop.

LaShomb, 91, of the United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg and formerly of Hopkinton and Buckton, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.  Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Stockholm.  Mrs. LaShomb died Sunday evening (May 21,1995) at the nursing home.  She is survived by her husband, Harlow of Ogdensburg; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Florence of Pinehurst, N.C., Sherwood and Viola of Charlotte, N.C., and Robert and Irish of Danville, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sawyer of Port Salerno, Fla., and Mrs. Mark (Sarah) Drew of Cambridge, Vt.; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one son, Harlow, Jr. on April 19, 1983.  Mrs. LaShomb was born Feb. 27, 1904 in Lawrence, the daughter of Noah and Mary (Wells) Parker.  She married Harlow W. LaShomb of Brasher at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church on May 25, 1925, with the Rev. Theo Wells presiding.  Mr. and Mrs. LaShomb had spent their winters in Port Salerno, Fla.  Mrs. LaShomb had been a nurses aide at Shenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Norwich.

Gerald Parker Lashomb:  The Pilot (Southern Pines, NC), Tuesday, 29 October 2019:  Gerald Parker LaShomb, a veteran who served in the United States Navy, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, in Pinehurst, surrounded by his family.  He was born June 8, 1928, in Winthrop, N.Y., to Harlow Wright LaShomb and Clara Parker LaShomb.  After graduating from high school in Sherburne, N.Y., Gerald entered the Navy, where he spent much of service aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.  Following service to his country, he held various management positions with General Electric in Syracuse, N.Y.; Ireland; Utica, N.Y.; and Singapore.  The last 17 years of his career were with Smith Corona and Proctor Silex in Singapore, Philadelphia and Southern Pines.  Gerry lived in the Sandhills of North Carolina for nearly 40 years.  He spent much of his time on his home course at Foxfire, as well as most every other golf course in the region and many others around the world.  He was a Shriner, Rotarian, board member for Wachovia Bank and chaired multiple United Way campaigns.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence Jaquay LaShomb; his daughters Debi Kennedy and husband, Gary, of Pinehurst, Geri Lynne Nix and her husband, David, of Coventry, R.I.; brothers Donald LaShomb and Robert LaShomb: five grandchildren, Peter Kennedy (wife Shelley), Adam Kennedy (wife Amanda), Brian Kennedy (wife Magen), Steven Nix (wife Lisa) and Kelly Nix; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lyla, Beau and George.  Family and friends will remember his smile, compassion and generosity.  If there was work to be done he was there, if there was someone in need he was there, and if there was fun to be had he was there for that too.  While there is great sadness at his passing, those who were privileged to call him husband, dad, brother, grandfather (Gimp) and friend have a heart full of memories that will be with them always.  Gerry spent the last three years of his life at The Inn at Quail Haven.  He appreciated the care he was given, and the family wishes to thank the staff for all they have done for him and his family.  The burial service will be private.  A celebration of his life will be held at West End Methodist Church, Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Tampa, FL.  Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.

Lillian Mae Lashomb:  Lillian M. Sawyer, of Ebbtide Ave., Port Salerno, FL., formerly of Smyrna, NY, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, while visiting her son, Terrance, in Smyrna.  She was born July 30, 1931, a daughter of Harlo and Clara LaShomb.  She received her L.P.N. degree, and worked for Chenango Memorial Hospital and Dr. Kochesberger in Norwich, NY until her retirement.  Lillian was married to Harold Sawyer who predeceased her.  Mrs. Sawyer was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Norwich; and the V.F.W. #2782 Auxiliary of Norwich.

 

Sarah Alice Lashomb:  The Burlington Free Press (VT), Thursday, 26 July 2001:  Sarah Alice (LaShomb) Drew, 68, of Cambridge passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 24, 2001, with her husband by her side.  She was born May 20, 1933, in Winthrop, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harlow and Clara (Parker) LaShomb.  She married Clifford Joseph Rock on Oct. 11, 1950, in Peru, N.Y.  He predeceased her May 5, 1981.  She was a home-care provider for Mrs. Gibson of Peru for several years.  She enjoyed crocheting for her family over the years until her arthritis became too debilitating.  Sarah lived for her family as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  March 20, 1993, she married Mark Drew in the Cambridge United Church.  During the last years of her illness, Sarah loved watching the flowers bloom from her bed at her home in Cambridge and took great delight in observing the many birds that visited her colorful gardens throughout the year.  She especially enjoyed the special back porch visits of her favorite yellow cat and the welcomed company of her dog, "Bedor".  Sarah will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.  She is survived by her husband, Mark B. Drew of Cambridge; six sons, Clifford Rock Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Schuyler Falls, N.Y., Gary Rock of Ausable Forks, N.Y., Russell Rock and Terri Knox of Cambridge, Raymond Rock and Lorraine Moore of Elkton, Md., Harold Rock and his wife, Donna, of Peru, and Thomas Rock and his wife, Tina, of Peru; three daughters, Pamela Wood and her husband, Bart, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Linda Podany and her husband, Greg, of Cameron Park, Calif., and Cindy Rock of Plattsburgh; two stepsons, Mark Drew and his wife, Shelley, of California, and Matthew Drew and his wife, Yulanda, of California; three brothers, Sherwood LaShomb, Robert LaShomb, and Gerald LaShomb; a sister, Lillian Sawyer of Florida; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was also predeceased by a brother, Harlow LaShomb Jr.  Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home today, Thursday, July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held in the Cambridge United Church on Friday, July 27, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin of the United Church of Fairfax officiating.  Interment will follow in the family lot in Dean Road Cemetery in Underhill.  Contributions in Sarah's memory may be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation of Vermont, South Burlington, Vt.  Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax.

Sherwood Donald Lashomb:  Cavin-Cook Funeral Home (Mooresville, NC):  Sherwood “Donald” LaShomb, 86, of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center.  He was born on October 10, 1934 in Stockholm, NY, to the late Harlow and Clara Parker LaShomb.  Mr. LaShomb was a veteran of the US Navy.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.  Mr. LaShomb retired from Bell South and also worked on the Apollo space suit project for the first moon landing.  Mr. LaShomb was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church in Mooresville.  He was also a member and past master of the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge #737 AF&AM and of the Potentates Guard with the Oasis Shriners.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harlow LaShomb, Jr. and Gerald LaShomb; and sisters, Lillian Sawyer and Sarah Drew.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Violet “Vi” Wilkinson LaShomb; children, Scott LaShomb, Susan LaShomb; stepdaughters, Debbie Fann (Alan), Teresa Ervin, Dawn Young (Chris); brother, Robert LaShomb (Irish); grandsons, Nathan, Pierce, and Garrett Young; and his beloved furry friend, Pepi.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 14 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Will Gipe officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Charlotte, NC or Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, NC.  Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the LaShomb family.
