Obituary Lashomb:  The Pilot (Southern Pines, NC), Tuesday, 29 October 2019:  Gerald Parker LaShomb, a veteran who served in the United States Navy, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, in Pinehurst, surrounded by his family.  He was born June 8, 1928, in Winthrop, N.Y., to Harlow Wright LaShomb and Clara Parker LaShomb.  After graduating from high school in Sherburne, N.Y., Gerald entered the Navy, where he spent much of service aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.  Following service to his country, he held various management positions with General Electric in Syracuse, N.Y.; Ireland; Utica, N.Y.; and Singapore.  The last 17 years of his career were with Smith Corona and Proctor Silex in Singapore, Philadelphia and Southern Pines.  Gerry lived in the Sandhills of North Carolina for nearly 40 years.  He spent much of his time on his home course at Foxfire, as well as most every other golf course in the region and many others around the world.  He was a Shriner, Rotarian, board member for Wachovia Bank and chaired multiple United Way campaigns.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence Jaquay LaShomb; his daughters Debi Kennedy and husband, Gary, of Pinehurst, Geri Lynne Nix and her husband, David, of Coventry, R.I.; brothers Donald LaShomb and Robert LaShomb: five grandchildren, Peter Kennedy (wife Shelley), Adam Kennedy (wife Amanda), Brian Kennedy (wife Magen), Steven Nix (wife Lisa) and Kelly Nix; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lyla, Beau and George.  Family and friends will remember his smile, compassion and generosity.  If there was work to be done he was there, if there was someone in need he was there, and if there was fun to be had he was there for that too.  While there is great sadness at his passing, those who were privileged to call him husband, dad, brother, grandfather (Gimp) and friend have a heart full of memories that will be with them always.  Gerry spent the last three years of his life at The Inn at Quail Haven.  He appreciated the care he was given, and the family wishes to thank the staff for all they have done for him and his family.  The burial service will be private.  A celebration of his life will be held at West End Methodist Church, Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Tampa, FL.  Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
