Misc:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Tuesday, 1 September 1936:  Winthrop, Sept. 1 - While Frank Lashombe worked in a field on his farm Wednesday, a bug flew into his right eye.  He was not able to remove it until he was badly bitten.  Dr. Victor J. Fingar is treating him and the eye is better.  His son, Donald, also working in the hay field, fell from the horse rake he was riding, breaking his left shoulder.  He was taken to Potsdam hospital where Dr. Thomas T. Watkins set the fractured bone and he is improving.

 

Obituary:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Monday, 31 December 1951:  F. T. Lashomb Dies in Sleep.  Ogdensburg, Dec. 31 - Franklin T. Lashomb, father of Mrs. Newell Bell of this city, died in his sleep Sunday morning at the home of his son, Harlan W. Lashomb, in Sherburne.  In his late 80's, Mr. Lashomb had been in ill health for some time.  Funeral services will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bell, 516 Hamilton street, Ogdensburg, Wednesday afternoon.  Burial will be in the Buckton cemetery.  Surviving besides Mrs. Bell and Harlan Lashomb, are five other children: Mrs. Mayfred Veitch, Donald Lashomb and Mrs. Muriel Yurch, all of Pearl River; Seward Lashomb, Mineville, and Kenneth Lashomb, Winthrop.  Also surviving are grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Lashomb died eleven years ago.

- Massena Observer (NY):  F. Lashomb Passes Away:  Winthrop – Funeral services were conducted at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at 218 Hamilton St., Ogdensburg, for Franklin Lashomb, 82, who passed away in Sherburne, N.Y. at the home of his son, Harlow Lashomb, Sunday, Dec. 30, 1951.  The Rev. Clyde V. Sparling, pastor of the Ogdensburg Methodist Church, conducted the service.  Burial was made in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Buckton, Robert P. Luther was funeral director.  Mr. Lashomb, a farmer, was born on Maple Ridge, Brasher, one of seven children of John and Sophia Thomas Lashomb.  He married Miss Sarah Perrault, daughter of Edward and Henrietta Archambault Perrault of Winthrop.  She passed away March 28, 1941.  Nine children were born to the couple.  Mrs. Henry (Lila) Van Tassel died Sept. 21, 1948; Mrs. Deforest (Nora) Tower passed away in Parishville, April 15, 1940.  Surviving are one brother, Charles Lashomb, Watertown; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Helen) LaVack, Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Joseph (Cora) Mousaw, Union Springs; also three daughters, Mrs. Bell, Ogdensburg, Mrs. Donald (Maefred, R.N.) Veitch, Ogdensburg, Mrs. Michael (Muriel, R.N.) Yurch, Brooklyn; four sons, Harlow, Sherburne, Seward, Mineville, Kenneth, Nicholville, and Donald Lashomb, Baltimore, Md.  There are also several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Following the death of his wife, Mr. Lashomb resided in the Wilbur White home in Winthrop for several years, later going to Sherburne to live with Mr. And Mrs. Harlow Lashomb and family, where he passed away.

- Ogdensburg Advance (NY), Sunday 6 January 1952:  December 31st Franklin T. Lashomb. father of Mrs. Newell Bell of this city, died in his sleep Sunday morning at the home of his son, Harlan W. Lashomb, in Sherburne.  In his late 80’s, Mr. Lashomb had been in ill health for some time.  Funeral services will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bell, 516 Hamilton Street, Ogdensburg, Wednesday afternoon.  Burial will be in the Buckton cemetery.

- Courier & Freeman (NY), Thursday 17 January 1952:  Frank LaShomb Funeral Held in Ogdensburg Home: Lawrenceville—Mr. and Mrs. Herchel Hazen attended the funeral of Mrs. Hazen's brother-in-law, Frank LaShomb at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Newell Bell, in Ogdensburg, Jan. 3.  Services were conducted by the Rev. Clyde V. Sparling of the Methodist Church and burial was in Union Cemetery at Buckton.  Mr. Lashomb had been living with his son, Harlow LaShomb, in Sherburn.

Obituary:  Courier & Freeman (Potsdam, NY), 2 April 1941:  Mrs. Sarah Perault Lashomb, 59, wife of Frank Lashomb of Winthrop R. F. D., passed away at her home Friday evening, March 28, at 7 o'clock.  She was born Nov. 10, 1881 in Canada, one of ten children of Mrs. Henrietta Archambult Perault of Ogdensburg and the late Edward Perault.  She married Mr. Lashomb of Winthrop about 40 years ago, and nine children were born to them.  A daughter, Nora, Mrs. Deforest Tower, passed away April 15, 1940.  Mrs. Lashomb had been ill for the past month, but passed away suddenly.  Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, and four sons; Mrs. Henry (Lila) Van Tassel, Winthrop; Mrs. Newell H. (Henrietta) Bell, Ogdensburg; Mrs. Donald (Mayfred) Veitch, Orangeburg; Miss Muriel Lashomb, R.N., at Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn; Seward Lashomb, Lake Placid; Harlow Lashomb, Winthrop R.F.D., and Kenneth and Donald in the home.  She is also survived by two sisters, and five brothers, Mrs. William (Hazel) Fayette, Ogdensburg; Mrs. Herschel (Lillian) Hazen, Lawrenceville; William Perault, Louisville; William Perault, Louisville Landing; Clarence N. Perault, Buck’s Bridge; Harry Perault, Lawrenceville; Theodore Perault, Carthage; Thornton Perault, Canton, and nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  A prayer service was held at the home at 1:30 o’clock Monday with funeral service at the Buckton Methodist church at 2 o’clock, Rev. Francis E. Lean officiating.  Interment was made in Union cemetery at Buckton.

Delila Belle Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Thursday, 23 September 1948:  Winthrop - Services were held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Buckton Methodist Church for Mrs. Lila Lashomb Van Tassell, 49, wife of Harry Van Tassell.  Rites were conducted by the Rev. Frank E. Morey, pastor of the Brasher Falls and Buckton Methodist Church.  Interment was in Union Cemetery, Buckton.  News of Mrs. Van Tassell's tragic death in an automobile accident in Glens Falls at 7:30 Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1948, was received in Winthrop that day when Robert P. Luther received a telephone call notifying him of the accident.  Mr. Luther, accompanied by Michael T. Hammill, went to Glens Falls for the body.  Mrs. Van Tassell and her husband had been visiting friends, Mr. And Mrs. Hubert Mottdole, in Syracuse.  Mrs. Van Tassell died from injuries sustained when the automobile in which she was riding plunged 40 feet down an embankment in northern Warren County.  Her husband, 50, was reported in fair condition at the Glens Falls Hospital.  He received a fractured pelvis, lacerations and bruises.  The full extent of his injuries was not determined, awaiting X-rays at the hospital.  The couple was found in their car, which had crashed guard rails before plunging down the embankment, after Mrs. Norma Higgins, who lives on the highway, had telephoned the nearby North River Garage saying that she could hear calls for help.  Fred Harrison of North River, who was at the garage, investigated and found the car over the bank, within 10 feet of the river.  He and Robert Vanderhoy of North River Lodge, who came along shortly after, helped the injured couple to the garage.  The ambulance from Blue Mountain Fire Squad was called to take Mrs. Van Tassel to Glens Falls.  It was escorted to the hospital by Trooper George Wardel of the Chestertown patrol from a point north of Warrensburg.  Persons at the scene said that the car was proceeding north and went off the right side of the highway about 800 feet north of the garage.  Mrs. Van Tassell is believed to have been driving,  It was not determined how long the car had been over the bank before it was discovered but it is believed to have been only a short time.  A dog in the car was not injured.  Mrs. Van Tassell was born in Winthrop, one of nine children of Frank Lashomb of Winthrop and the late Sarah Perrault Lashomb, who passed away Mar. 28, 1941.  Mrs. Van Tassell was twice married.  Her first husband was Clark Phippen, who passed away many years ago.  On Oct. 18, 1936, she married Harry Van Tassell, a veteran of World War I, of Milford, N.J.  She kept the home for the late Timothy Lynch near Buckton for several years, later they lived in Buckton and had been making their home for some time at 96 Leroy St., in Potsdam.  Mr. Van Tassell is employed at the aluminium plant in Massena.  Three children were born to the first marriage, Harold and Clark Phippen, Winthrop, Rt. 1 and Mrs. Robert (Geraldine) Bullingham in New Jersey.  Surviving besides her father, husband and children, are three sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Newell (Henrietta) Bell, R.N., Ogdensburg; Mrs. Donald (Maefred) Veitch, superintendent of nurses at Rockland State Hospital; Miss Muriel Lashomb, R.N., employed in Rockland State Hospital; Harlow Lashomb of Sherburne; Seward of Mineville; Kenneth of Nicholville and Donald of Baltimore, Md.  A sister, Mrs. Deforest (Nora) Tower passed away Apr. 15, 1940 in Parishville.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Harlow Wright Lashomb:  Massena Daily Courier Observer (NY), Tuesday, 1 August 1995:  Ogdensburg - Funeral services for Harlow W. LaShomb, 93, of the United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, and formerly of Hopkinton, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.  Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Stockholm.  Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Mr. LaShomb died Friday evening (July 28,1995) at United Helpers Nursing Home.  Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Florance of Pinehurst, N.C., Sherwood and Viola of Charlotte, N.C., Robert and Irish of Danville, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sawyer of Port Salerno, Fla., Mrs. Mark (Sarah) Drew of Cambridge, Vt.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald LaShomb of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Henrietta Bell of Ogdensburg, Mayfred Bietch and Murial Yurch, both of Pearl River, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Clara on May 21, 1995; son, Harlow jr. on April 19, 1983; two brothers, Seward and Kenneth; three sisters, Lila Van Tassel, DeNora Towers and Lillian LaShomb.  Mr. LaShomb was born on Jan. 28, 1902, in the town of Brasher, son of Franklin and Sarah Perault LaShomb.  He married Clara Angeline Parker of Nicholville at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church on May 25, 1925 by the Rev. Theo Wells.  He was a driver og GLF/Agway in Sherwood, and had been a mechanic at Anderson Motors in Norwich.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Norwich.  Mr. and Mrs. LaShomb lived in Norwich from 1942 until 1970, and had spent winters in Port Salerno and summers in Winthrop.

Henrietta Lashomb:  Ogdensburg Advance (NY), Sunday, 12 April 1998:  Graveside services for Henrietta M. Bell, 94, of the United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg and formerly of 501 Hamilton St., will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuyelton with the Rev. Dr. Janice Fife officiating.  Burial will follow the services.  There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are with the Allen-Nichols Funeral Home in Ogdensburg.  Mrs. Bell died Friday (April 10, 1998) at the United Helpers Nursing Home.  Surviving Mrs. Bell are two sisters: Mrs. Muriel Yurch and Mrs. Maefred Veitch, both of Pearl River; one brother, Donald Lashomb of Colleyville, Texas; and several nieces and nephews, among them Harold and Anita Phippen of Winthrop.  Mrs. Bell was predeceased by her husband, Newell; and three brothers, Harlow, Seward, and Kenneth Lashomb.  Born on March 27, 1904 in Winthrop, Mrs. Bell was the daughter of Franklin T. and Sarah (Purlette) Lashomb.  She married Newell H. Bell on September 21, 1935.  Mrs. Bell graduated from the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center School of Nursing in August of 1932.  She worked as a nurse at the Hepburn Medical Center and also as a private duty nurse until her retirement.  Mrs. Bell was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #71 in Ogdensburg, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg.

Mayfred Lashomb:  The Journal News (NY), Tuesday, 18 July 2005:  Mayfred Veitch of Pearl River, NY, former Chief Supervising Nurse at Rockland Psychiatric Center, Infirmary of Old Age and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at her home.  She was 100.  Mrs. Veitch was born July 2, 1905 in Buckton, NY to Franklin Lashomb and Sarah Perrault.  She was educated at Rockland State Hospital for nursing and was a registered nurse.  Mrs. Veitch lived in Pearl River for the past 37 years.  Before that she lived in Orangeburg, NY from 1922 to 1968.  Mrs. Veitch will be remembered for her love of life, travel and adventurous spirit, as well as her generosity and devotion to her family.  She is survived by her sister Muriel; brother Donald; nephews Michael Yurch of Briarcliff Manor, NY and Richard Yurch of Edison, NJ; as well as grandnephews David and Jackson Yurch; grandnieces Sarah and Lili Yurch and many more.  She was predeceased by her husband Donald, many years ago.  Visiting will be Tuesday, July 18, 2005 at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home Inc., from 3-5 and 7-9 PM.  The funeral is private.  Burial will be Saturday at Buckton Cemetery, Buckton, NY.

Denora Lashomb:  Massena Observer (NY), Tuesday, 23 April 1940:  MRS. TOWER'S FUNERAL HELD AT BUCKTON - Winthrop - Services were held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Apr.17, at the Brasher Methodist Church for Mrs. Denora Lashomb Tower, 33, who passed away Monday afternoon, Apr. 15, at her home near Parishville.  The Rev. Francis E. Loan, officiated.  Interment was made in Union Cemetery.  She had been ill with asthma for several years and a complication caused her death.  She was born at Buckton Oct. 29, 1906, one of nine children of Frank and Sarah Perrault Lashomb.  She attended the Buckton school and Oct. 26, 1930, she married Deforest Tower of Buckton.  The ceremony was solemnized at the Brasher Falls Methodist parsonage by the Rev. Albert E. Budd.  After a short time in Buckton they moved to the Parishville farm.  Besides her husband and parents, she leaves two children, Janice 6, and Jack 5, four brothers and four sisters, Harlow Lashomb of Joe Indian, Seward of Lake Placid, Kenneth and Donald of Buckton, Mrs. Lila Van Tassel of Winthrop, Mrs. Henrietta Bell of Ogdensburg, Mrs. Mayfred Veitch and Miss Muriel Lashomb of Orangeburg.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Seward Lashomb:  The Post Star (Glens Falls, NY), Tuesday, 28 June 1988:  Mineville - Seward LaShomb, 78, of 436 Wall St., died Sunday (June 26, 1988) at Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga after a long illness.  Born Jan. 19, 1910, in Winthrop, he was the son of Franklin and Sarah (Perrault) LaShomb.  After settling in the Mineville area in 1942, Mr. LaShomb became a maintenance man for Republic Steel.  He and his wife, Lena (VonDell) LaShomb would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 2, 1988.  Mr. LaShomb was a member of the Steelworkers Union and a 40-year member of Masonic Morning Sun Lodge 142 of Port Henry.  Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Seward LaShomb Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., and Lowell LaShomb of Brant Lake; one daughter, Faith Whitford of Ticonderoga; two brothers, Harlow LaShomb of Florida and Donald LaShomb of Cranberry Lake; three sisters, Henrietta Bell of Ogdensburg, Mayfred Vietch and Muriel Yurch, both of Pearl River; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Connery and Gunning Funeral Home of Ticonderoga, with the Rev. Terry O'Niell, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be Wednesday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lawrenceville.  Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Port Henry Masons ritualistic service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.  The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations to the Moriah Ambulance Squad, instead of flowers.

Lashomb:  The Journal News (NY), 5 November 2009:  Muriel Yurch of Pearl River, NY, a resident for the past 70 years, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ.  She was 88.  Mrs. Yurch was a registered nurse and attended nursing training at Rockland State Hospital.  She was employed by Rockland State Hospital, Pearl River Hospital and Rockland Psychiatric Center.  She was born August 27, 1921 in Winthrop, NY to Franklin Lashomb and Sarah Perrault.  Locally, she was a member of the Emblem Club Pearl River Elks 2041.  She is survived by her two sons Michael and wife Alix Yurch of Briarcliff Manor, NY and Richard and wife Merril Yurch of Edison, NJ; four grandchildren, Sarah, David, Jack and Lili Yurch and brother Donald Lashomb of Buckton, NY.  Visiting is Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.  A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.

 

Donald A. Lashomb:  Watertown Daily Times (NY), Thursday, 31 May 2018:  Donald Lashomb, 93, passed away on the evening of Saturday, May 26 in Colleyville, Texas.  His wife Beatrice was by his side.  The youngest of ten children, Donald was born to Franklin Thomas Lashomb and his wife Sarah Perrault on Friday, June 20, 1924 in Buckton, NY.  On August 3, 1943 he married Marion Leona Monica in Hopkinton, NY; together they raised four children.  Their marriage lasted until Marion's death on March 23, 1980.  He served in the United States Army during the end of the Second World War, stationed in Japan as an acting tech sergeant in the motor pool.  In 1953 Don began working in the plastics industry, first as a partner with J. Hardman & Son and then on his own, founding Rockland Form-A-Plastics Inc. in 1963 in Pearl River, NY.  He and his wife moved his business to Cranberry Lake in 1965 and also began operating the Evergreen Hotel (restaurant and bar) at that time.  He married his second wife, Beatrice Cabillo, on February 4, 1984 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  An engineer at heart, Don was a businessman known for his love of conversation and making deals large and small.  Being an avid hunter and enjoying flea markets, he kept busy throughout his life.  For years he maintained homes in three states concurrently, spending most of his time in Texas during the last few decades.  He is survived by his wife Bea, his daughter Rita Marie and husband Harold Joseph Refici of Troy, his son Donald II and wife Cynthia of Cranberry Lake, his daughter Theresa Anne (Terri) Smith of Cranberry Lake, his daughter Cynthia Mary and husband William Yaeger of Orwell, as well as nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Cranberry Lake Cemetery Association and Leukemia Texas.  Arrangements are with the Hawley Funeral Home in Star Lake.  Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 2, from 1-3, with a funeral service afterward.  A graveside service will follow at the Cranberry Lake Cemetery.  Friends and family may gather at the Cranberry Lake Fire Hall following the services for a celebration of life.
