Born at Summerside, Prince Edward Island, September 21, 1892, he was the son of the late Leo and Mary (Brown) Peters. He had been a resident of Smyrna Mills for 44 years. She attended local schools and graduated from Merrill High School in 1934. She and her husband, Cassius O. Hackett, moved here during World War II from Smyrna Mills. For many years until her retirement in 1980, Mrs. Hackett was employed by Central Maine Power Company. She retired as supervisor for the Southern District Billing Department in the Augusta office. She was a member of St. Margaret's Parish. Her husband died in 1958. A son, Terrance H. Hackett, died in April 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Dawn Covault of Chino Valley, Ariz., and Mrs. David A. (Carole M.) Ray of Scarborough; a sister, Dorothy Cessario, and a brother, Earlon Peters, both of Plantsville, Conn; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Biddeford. Arrangements are by the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home.

Prior to his retirement, Carl worked for many years in the printing business, working at the Crosier and Domanell Printing Companies. Besides his wife, Roberta, he leaves two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frank and Emma Peters and Brian Peters, all of Wallingford; a grandson, James and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 1998, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
