Obituary: Clarion News (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 5 December 1935: Funeral Services Held Wednesday Morning for Francois Pitre, 87 - Aged Farmer Dies Tuesday Morning; Services at Lawtell Church - Services were held Wednesday morning for Francois P. Pitre, 87, St. Landry farmer who died in Lawtell Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. The funeral took place from the home of his son-in-law, Joseph Olivier, Jr., in Lawtell. Services were at the Catholic church with interment in the Pitre cemetery in Prairie Ronde. Many friends and relatives attended the last rites of the well-known farmer. He is survived by a number of children and grandchildren. The paper joins his many friends in extending condolences to his bereaved family. _ Tribute of Respect to Francois P. Pitre: Between the years 1869 and 1874, I was at school with Francois P. Pitre. He was a man then, I was a mere boy. We maintained a close friendship which grew as the years rolled by. Within a few years ago, he lived in Opelousas, and it was always a pleasure to meet him and converse with him in the French language. He was an honest man. He could prepare his ballot, and he always voted for the right as God gave him the light to see it. My school mates, like the leaves of the forest, are fast disappearing. This makes me "Feel like one Who treads alone Some banquet-hall deserted, Whose lights are fled, Whose garlands dead, And all but he departed." - Gilbert L. Dupre
