posted on ancestry.com by a descendant:  Adam was a tall, slim man.  He never talked much.  He died of T.B. and we all had to be tested for awhile.  He would sit on the porch and smoke and throw the matches on the ground.

 

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 21 October 1955:  Adam Pitre, 80, died at 2 a.m. today at his home in Lawtell following an illness of a year.  The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  The rosary will be recited there at 5:30 p.m. today.  Services will be read at a requiem mass at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell.  Interment will be in the adjacent cemetery.  Pitre is survived by his wife, the former Melanie Prejean; a son, Marion; five daughters, Mrs. Laurent Prudhomme, Mrs. Elie Joubert, Mrs. Amon Bellard, Mrs. Amy Moreau, and Mrs. Adolph Darbonne, all of Lawtell.  Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 18 July 1968:  Lawtell - Funeral services for Mrs. Adam Pitre, 88, of Lawtell, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Pitre died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home.  Her body is at the First National Funeral Home in Opelousas, where the rosary will be recited at 7 tonight.  She was the former Melanie Prejean.  Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Adolph Darbonne, Mrs. Lawrence Prudhomme, Mrs. Amos Bellard and Mrs. Eli Joubert all of Lawtell, and Mrs. Amy Moreau of Opelousas; 30 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Lastie Pitre:  Clarion News (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 5 September 1929:  Lastie Pitre, 31, was buried Tuesday morning at Lawtell following his death in western Opelousas Tuesday.  He is survived by his wife and three children.

 

Rita Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 19 November 1970:  Lawtell - Funeral services for Mrs. Lawrence Prudhomme, 70, of Lawtell, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bridget Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Prudhomme, the former Rita Pitre, died at 9:35 a.m. Thursday at Opelousas General Hospital.  She had been ill five or six weeks.  Her body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 9 tonight.  Mrs. Prudhomme was a member of the St. Bridget Altar Society.  She is survived by her husband; one son, James A. Prudhomme of Lawtell; one daughter, Mrs. Herman Richard of Lawtell; four sister, Mrs. Adolph Darbonne, Mrs. Amos Bellard and Mrs. Eli Joubert, all of Lawtell, and Mrs. Annie Moreau of Opelousas; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Eula Mary Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 8 June 1993:  Funeral services for Mrs. Adolf Darbonne, the former Eula Pitre, 91, will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, with burial in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Darbonne, a resident of Opelousas, died Monday night at Senior Village Nursing Home.  Survivors include: one daughter, Earline Marcantel of Lawtell; one sister, Mrs. Ammie Moreau of Opelousas; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.  A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today.  Lafond-Ardoin on the Old Sunset Highway in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

 

Annie Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 29 December 1986:  Lawtell - Funeral services for Annie P. Joubert, 81, were held today, at 10 a.m., at the St. Bridgett Church in Lawtell.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Father Keith Laboue officiated.  Survivors include one son, Claude Joubert of Lawtell; three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Belva) Richard of Lawtell, Mrs. Ryan (Lucille) Fontenot of Lawtell, and Mrs. Rhyn (Glenda) Duplechain of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Adolph Darbonne of Lawtell; Mrs. Amie Moreau of Opelousas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  She was the wife of the late Eli Joubert.  Mrs. Joubert was a member of the Altar Society of St. Bridgett, the Catholic Daughters of St. Bridgett Court, and was a 50-year member of the church choir.  A Rosary was at 7 p.m. on Sunday.  Lafond-Ardoin-Hickson Funeral Home on Old Sunset Road, Opelousas, is directed the services.

 

Amie Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 6 January 1985:  Funeral services for Amie Pitre Bellard, 77, will be held at St. Bridget Roman Catholic Church in Lawtell at 1 p.m. today.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Bellard, a resident of Swords, died at 8 p.m. Friday at Opelousas General Hospital.  Mrs. Bellard is survived by her husband, Amos Bellard; two sons, Raymond Bellard of Bridge City, Texas, and Robert Bellard of Port Barre; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Grace) Guidry of Swords; three sisters, Mrs. Annis Joubert of Lawtell, Mrs. Eula Darbonne of Lawtell, and Mrs. Ammie Moreau of Opelousas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

 

Marion Adam Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 26 May 1964:  Lawtell - Final rites for Marion Pitre, 54, of Lawtell, were held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell.  Burial was in the church cemetery with Lafond and Son Funeral Home of Opelousas in charge of arrangements.  Pitre died suddenly at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in his home.  A native of Lawtell, he was a farmer.  Survivors are his wife, the former Alex Joubert of Lawtell; four sons, Bobby and Ronald Pitre both of Opelousas, George Pitre of Lafayette and Sgt. Floyd Pitre of Abilene, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Breaux of Opelousas and Miss Mary Alice Pitre of Lawtell; and his mother, Mrs. Adam Pitre of Lawtell.  Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Annie Moreau of Opelousas, Mrs. Lawrence Prudhomme, Mrs. Adolph Darbonne, Mrs. Eli Joubert and Mrs. Amos Bellard of Lawtell; and nine grandchildren.

 

Leora Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 8 August 2004:  (photo included) Funeral services for Mrs. Leora Pitre Moreau, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in St. Bridget Catholic Church Cemetery in Lawtell.  The Rev. Jeff deBlanc will conduct the services.  Mrs. Moreau, a resident of Opelousas and a native of Lawtell, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, in Opelousas General Health System.  She enjoyed cooking, especially rice dressing and homemade bread.  Mrs. Moreau was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to those she loved and befriended.  She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Rosary Altar Society and was also a lay minister at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Survivors include: four daughters, Val Moreau Boss and her husband, Harris of Lafayette, Catherine Moreau Castille and her husband, Harold, of Opelousas, Martha Moreau of Colfax and Connie Moreau Ortego of Opelousas; six sons, Willard Moreau and his wife, June, of Bellevue, Texas, Burnel Moreau and his wife, Marie, of Lafayette, Roy Moreau and his wife, Rose Mary, of Tyler, Texas, Larry Moreau and his wife, Glenda, of Opelousas, Gene Moreau and his wife, Dora, of Sunset, and Roger Moreau and his wife, Doris, of Bunkie; 33 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Moreau was preceded in death by her husband, Ammie J. Moreau; her parents, Adam and Melonie Prejean Pitre; three brothers, Marion, Leo and Lastie Pitre; four sisters, Mamie Bellard, Rita Prudhomme, Annie Joubert and Eula Darbonne; one grandchild, Adam Roy Moreau Jr.; one great-grandchild, Michael Jude Taylor; and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Mearl Moreau and Mrs. Ann Burleigh.  The pallbearers will be her six sons.  The honorary pallbearers will be Harold Castille and Harris Boss.  Visiting hours will be observed from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Monday until time of services at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today.  An early rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. by the Our Lady of Mercy Rosary Altar Society.  Sibille Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
