Notes for Urbain Michel Picou:
- In 1720 Urbain Picou came from France on Le Profond with his parents, brother Charles, sister Catherine and her husband. They came with Jacques Cantrelle because of John Law. After settling in New Orleans, in 1733 he married Marguerite Josephe Larmusiau, a cousin of Jacques Cantrrelle's second wife. They eventually settled in the St. Charles area. In November 1759 Urbain bought land from Joseph Martin located on the east side of the Miss. R. On 18 October 1781 his widow bought a farm for 700 piastres, where she is listed on the 1784 census of the Second German Coast as Marie Joseph Larmeseau with her youngest son Alexis Picou and his wife Mariane Cuvelier. But by 10 October 1784, "owing to infirmities and advancing age", she sold her 8 arpent farm for 750 piastres. She still must have exercised some control in family matters as on 10 November 1786 she bought a slave for 650 piastres and on 5 November 1788 she sold a 4.5 arpent farm for 3470 piastres. On her death in 1788, Marie Josephe left "8 adult children, one of whom has died."
