- The Caissie family is of Irish origin. Its first ancestor in Acadia was Roger Caissie, born around 1646. He married Marie Poirier at Port Royal around 1668. He was part of the group of families who colonized Beaubassin under the leadership of Jacques Bourgeois.  His name is spelled Kriessy (1671), Kessy or Quessy (1685) and Caissy. Caissie became the fixed spelling of the surname. Several of his descendants in Louisiana adopted the surname "Roger" as a family name.  Roger Caissie was one of the inhabitants of Beaubassin who, in 1685, accused Jean Campagna of sorcery.  Campagna had asked for the hand of Roger Caissie's daughter and, having been refused, cast a spell which caused all of Caissie's cattle to become sick.  Roger Caissie's property was at pointe-de-Beauséjour (New Brunswick) and was known as Bute-à-Roger. The couple had nine children including four sons: Jean, Pierre, Guillaume and Michel. Their descendants are to be found chiefly in Quebec City, Batiscan, in the Gaspé, in New Brunswick and in Louisiana.   [Telegraph-Journal, Saturday, July 30, 1994; p.
