Wife Beverly Richardson Harris was born 4 March 1917 at 2211 Burdett, New Orleans, LA (baptism: 29 April 1917 Christ Church Cathedral, New Orleans, LA), and died 23 August 1997  New Orleans, LA.  Burial was 30 August 1997 in Greenwood Cemetery, #22 Palm, New Orleans, LA.  They were married 8 July 1946  St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Orleans, LA.   Link to Photo

- Times Picayune (N.O., LA), 23 February 1937 - The U.S.S. Roper, the destroyer now berthed at Bienville street wharf is scheduled to remain in New Orleans for three months for the purpose of training naval reserves of the city of which Lieutenant-Commander Neville Levy is commander. The Roper, which is commanded by Lieutenant-Commander J. R. Noble, arrived here late Sunday from San Diego, Cal., via the Panama Canal, to replace the U.S.S. Schenck, another destroyer which formally had been detailed here for the training of naval reserves. The Roper has a full complement of 64 officers and men. The only Louisianian aboard is Chief Petty Officer Dibert E. Pitre, a native of New Orleans.

Obituary:  Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Tuesday, 12 August 1980:   Dibert E. Pitre, at Plaquemine, La., on Sunday morning, August 10, 1980 at 3:00, beloved husband of Beverly Harris, father of Diane M. and Wendy K. Pitre, son of Mabel Leonard and the late Cyril Pitre, also survived by many brothers and sisters.  Age 64 years.  Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.  Services from McMahon-Coburn-Briede Funeral Home, 600 Moss St., on Tuesday afternoon, August 12, 1980 at 1:30 o'clock.  Followed by Religious Services at the funeral home.  Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  Friends may call on Tuesday after 10 A.M.

Pitre - Died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 1980, in Plaquemine.  He was 64, a native of Thibodaux and a resident of New Orleans.  He was a Navy veteran with 20 years of service.  Religious services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McMahon-Coburn Funeral Home, Moss Avenue, New Orleans.  Survived by his wife, Mrs. Beverly Harris Pitre, New Orleans; his mother, Mrs. Cyril Pitre Sr., Plaquemine; two daughters, Dianne and Wendy Pitre, both of New Orleans; four sisters, Cecile Pitre, Plaquemine, Daisy P. LeJeune and Muriel P. Rhed, both of Baton Rouge, and Camille P. Baron, Crowley, and seven brothers, Preston J., Freddie H., William J., Harold J., Arthur B., Curtis R. and Cyril P. Pitre Jr., all of Plaquemine.  Preceded in death by his father, Cyril P. Pitre Sr.

- Times Picayune, (New Orleans, LA), Tuesday, 23 July 1946:  The marriage of Miss Beverly Richardson Harris, daughter of Mrs. Ethlyn Richardson Leonard, to Mr. Dibert Edward Pitre, United States Navy, son of Mrs. Cyril Pitre of Plaquemine, La., was quietly celebrated in New Orleans, Monday, July 8, in St. Andrew's Episcopal church.  The bride is a granddaughter of Mrs. Lew Johnson Richardson of this city.

 

- 8 January 1948, Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA) - Theft of bills reported - Mrs. D. E. Pitre, 30, Corpus Christi, Tex., told Seventh Precinct police Wednesday that someone stole three $100 bills from a jewelry box she had in her room at 7911 Birch, where she is visiting.

[From unknown service magazine, p. 360 - Beverly R. Harris, Sergeant, WAC:  Daughter of Mrs. E. Leonhard, 7911 Birch St., New Orleans.  She was born March 4, 1917, and attended Robert E. Lee, McMain High, and Allen Commercial Schools and was a clerk and stenographer with an airline at New Orleans Airport prior to induction Oct. 17, 1942.  Assigned to Santa Ana Air Base in California, she served as code instructor for Pilot Radio School until going overseas May 30, 1944.  Sergeant Harris served in England, France, and Belgium as radio (CW) operator with Ninth Bomber Command Headquarters.  She has battle stars for the Invasion of Normandy, the Campaign of Northern France, the Ardennes Forest Defensive, the Rhineland, and Central Europe.  She also has the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Ribbon, the WAC Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  Sergeant Harris received her discharge with a certificate of honorable service Aug. 29, 1945, at Fort Bragg, N.C.]
