- Obituary Times-Picayune, New Orleans, LA: OLDEST SCREWMAN. Anthony R. Smith, Familiar Figure on Levee Front, Dies. Anthony R. Smith, the oldest screwman in New Orleans. and probably the entire South, was buried yesterday from the family residence, 2625 North Rampart Street, at 3 o'clock. Mr. Smith was a native of Sheffield, England, but spent the majority of his life in New Orleans, having lived here for the past sixty-three years. He was 85 years old, and was a screwman for over fifty years. Most of the firms he was employed by in past years are now out of existence, the heads of them being dead and gone for a number of years. Some of them were Thompson & Torjeson and Cooper & Hunter, and a number of others who have long passed out of existence. Mr. Smith was in ill health for the past two years. Up to 1906, however, he was employed steadily, and was a familiar figure on the levee front. He was a member of the Screwmen's Benevolent Association, Brotherhood of Railroad Freight Handlers, Local No. 60, and R.E. Lee Council No. 4, Junior O.U.A.M. He leaves a wife and two children, Mr. Albert S. Smith and Mrs. Joseph Adams, both of this city, and five grandchildren. Father Hanrahan, of Sts. Peter and Paul's Church, will officiate at the funeral. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

- Obituary: Smith - At the residence of his son-in-law John B. Enos, in Summit, Thursday morning, Jan. 26, 1905 at 6 o'clock, Frank Smith - aged 71 years, 4 months and 2 days. Mr. Smith had been suffering for several weeks with a stroke of paralysis, and while it was known that his condition was serious, none apprehended that the end would come so soon; when it did it produced a wave of sorrow and grief among his family and large circle of friends. For a number of years Mr. Smith resided in McComb, occupying a trusted position in the I.C. shops there, and made friends with all whom he came in contact. Afterwards he came to Summit, and took up his abode with his daughter, Mrs. Enos. Here as elsewhere, his genial, kindly nature, open-hearted and frank disposition won him a coterie of warm friends who deeply deplore his absence from among them. He was a devoted father, generous to a fault, up-right, honest and true, and in his death the town loses a valuable citizen, while his sorrowing children are bereft of an indulgent and tender father. To them the tenderest sympathy of the whole community is extended in their bereavement. The funeral will take place from Mr. Enos' residence tomorrow (Friday) evening at 3 o/clock, conducted by Rev. H. H. Messenger, Rector of the Episcopal Church, of which church the deceased was a consistent and faithful member.

The association of the Army of Northern Virginia Louisiana Division: To all whom it may concern, we hereby declare that Albert Smith entered the military service of the Confederate States of America on the ninth day of June 1861 as a private in Co. A fifth Regiment Louisiana Volunteers was with Co. to battle of seven Rivers absent on sick leave for several months.
After second battle of Manassas until Battle of Sharpsburg where wounded and was again absent several months and rejoined Company until Battle of Winchester was again wounded and was retired by Medical Field Board at Petersburg Virginia in February 1865 and has been elected a member of Louisiana Division of the Association of the Army of Northern Virginia. And upon the proof of the above military record has been awarded this certificate. In testimony where we have set our hand and offered the seal of the association this eighth day of June 1901. Obituary: Daily Picayune, 9 March 1913: Albert Smith. Covington, LA., March 8. - Albert Smith, Confederate veteran, and member of the Army of Northern Virginia, died here Saturday afternoon. He had been confined to his bed for the past six weeks, and had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Smith was formerly a resident of New Orleans, but had resided here for the past five years. He was born in Brampton, near Chester, England, and was 77 years old. Mr. Smith is survived by his widow, who was Miss Mary McIntyre, of Opelousas, and a sister, Mrs. Louis Johnson, of New Orleans. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Funeral will take place on arrival of Great Northern 8:50 a.m. train Monday. Will be interred in Army of Northern Virginia tomb.
- St. Tammany Farmer (Covington, LA), Saturday, 15 March 1913: Albert Smith died in Covington last Saturday, March 8, 1913, at 2:20 p.m., aged 78 years. The funeral took place in New Orleans, Monday on the arrival of the New Orleans Great Northern morning train, and interment was made in the tomb of the Army of Northern Virginia, U.C.V., of which he was a member. A large delegation of the association took charge of the body on the arrival of the train. Mr. Smith was born in Devonshire, England, and came to this country when very young. He settled in New Orleans, and at the outbreak of the Civil War fought with the army of Northern Virginia. His wife, who survives him, was Widow Mary Lechere. At a meeting of the Association of the Army of Northern Virginia, held Saturday evening, resolutions of sorrow were adopted. Mr. Smith has had a residence in Covington for several years, and until lately, when he retired from his business in New Orleans and lived in Covington exclusively, he spent part of his time in New Orleans and part in Covington. He was much interested in the future of Covington. Mrs. Smith being one of the ardent workers among the women for its improvement. He had been quite ill for some time preceding his death but it was hoped he would be able to overcome his illness.

- Obituary for Albert M. Powell: New Orleans Item, Sunday, 6 January 1935: Ex-Vicksburg Man Brain Attack Victim - Albert M. Powell, 78, died Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in Charity hospital following an attack of cerebral hemmorhage suffered Thursday of last week. Mr. Powell, formerly a resident of Vicksburg, Miss., and more recently of Hattiesburg, moved to New Orleans two weeks ago, following the death of his daughter, Mrs. Rosena Harrell, in Hattiesburg, and was living with his daughter Mrs. C.S. Lumbley. Other survivors are A.L. Powell, Memphis, a son; Mrs. Walter Corey, Indianapolis, Ind., a daughter; Mrs. W.A. Magnon, Monroe, La., step-daughter, and Mrs. Will Moore, Colorado Springs, Colo., a sister. Mrs. Lew Richardson, Mrs. Shirley Stearns Richardson, Warren Johnson and Ellis Stearns of New Orleans, and Eads Johnson of New York, are near relatives. The funeral will be held from funeral parlors of L.A. Muhleison and Son, with interment at Vicksburg, Miss., Sunday.
