John Richardson was born Abt. 1770 in Scotland and died Abt. 1820 in Tennessee.

 

Wife Jane McAllister was born 29 May 1774 in Ireland and died 18 September 1844 in Athens, Limestone, Alabama.  They were married 16 May 1792 [James McAllister/-----] in Berkeley Co., VA (now West Virginia).  Burial in Old City Cemetery, Athens.  Tombstone inscription:  In / memory / of / Mrs. Jane Richardson / a native of Ireland / and consort of / Mr. John Richardson / a native of Scotland / She emigrated from E. Tenn. / to this place in 1836 / and died Sept 18th, 1844 / aged 70 years 3 months / 20 days.

- [Before the War Jane was living in the home of John McAllister.  She died in 1875 and is buried in the New Athens cemetery in the McAllister plot with four McAllister graves also in the plot.  Her nephew, Dr. J. R. Hoffman (son of Aaron and Mary Ann) furnished information about her to the cemetery.]

- 1870 Kingsport, Sullivan, TN:  Jane Sexton 73, living with sister's family: Aaron Hoffman 65 (VA) saddler, wife Mary A. 63, Laviniah 30.

- Tombstone Inscription, Old City Cemetery, Athens:  To the memory / of / Thos. Sexton / A native of Va. / died Oct. 23, 1841 / aged 40 years 2 / months and 28 days

- The Athens Post (Athens, AL), Friday, 13 June 1873:  The venerable Mrs. Jane Sexton, now 81 years old, and who at one time lived in Athens, is here on a visit.  Many old friends have called to see her and to pay their respects.

The placement of John M. Richardson as the son of John Richardson & Jane McAllister is due mainly to the research of Jim Ward and Margaret R. Reed who have graciously shared much of the following information.  If anyone has any information to enhance or correct this assumption please let me know.

 

Rootsweb World Connect database: Brad Spencer lists Nancy Richardson (1785-IRE/1836-Hawkins Co., TN), who m. Joshua Russell (1783-Winchester, VA) in 1808 in Blountville, TN.  Their daughter Evalina (1814-Rogersville/1894-Athens, AL) m. John McAllister in 1849.

 

- At least one document after John Richardson Sr.'s death includes a John Richardson who appears to be a child.

McCormack, John Scott, Signed by Christian Troxsyll and Jacob Boy; Proven by William McCormack, May session 1795, Matthew Rhea, CSC; Reg. 18 June 1795  [The William Rutledge referred to was an ancestor of Jim Ward.  The community is now called Vance.  Around 1820 Jane Richardson transferred half of her interest in property in Bristol to John Richardson, Jr.  There are some interesting coincidences between the Vance, McAllister, Rutledge and Richardson families.]
