Misc.:  Saginaw News (Saginaw, MI), Wednesday, 12 March 1919:  Walter Petre of Oneonta, N.Y., is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tusan Petre.  He was recently discharged from military service, where he was in the searchlight division of the engineer corps, stationed at Washington, D.C.

- The Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Tuesday, 21 December 1920:  Police Court - Walter Petre, 34 years of age, of Saginaw, and an enameler by occupation, according to his admissions, was arrested last night, charged with the theft of a lady's plush coat from the Moose club, where he was attending a party.  The garment was taken from a cloak room and carried away, but later recovered by the police.  This morning in police court the prisoner pleaded guilty and received a sentence of two months in the county jail without the privilege of paying a fine.

- The Saginaw News (Saginaw, MI), Monday, 3 April 1922:  Walter Petre, charged with larceny of a bicycle, pleaded not guilty in police court Monday morning and Justice Clements set his trial for next Monday.  Petre was released to appear for trial on furnishing $500 bonds.

- The Midland Sun (Midland, MI), Thursday, 25 October 1923:  Jewelry Robber Gets Prison Term - Walter Petre, Merrill, Goes to Jackson Three to Fifteen Years: Walter Petre of Merrill was sentenced Monday afternoon by Circuit Judge Clarence M. Browne to a term of from three to 15 years in Jackson prison.  Petre pleaded guilty to the theft of approximately $800 worth of jewelry from the H. I. Barber store in Merrill early Sunday morning, October 14.  He told the court that he was intoxicated at the time he committed the robbery and had only a hazy recollection of what occurred.  Confesses Robbery of Merrill Store:  Walter Petre, 38 years old, of Merrill, has confessed to the robbery of the Barber jewelry store in Merrill last Sunday morning.  He secured about $600.00 worth of watches and jewelry.  It was found by Petre's father in a haymow of his barn last Thursday and turned over to the officers.

- The Saginaw News (Saginaw, MI), Tuesday, 9 July 1929:  Walter S. Petre, believed by the police to live at 411 Johnson street, drove his car Monday night through the safety zone at Genesee and Warren avenues, wrecking the dock and badly damaging his automobile.

- The Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Monday, 24 July 1944:  A 61-year-old roomer at 609 North Jefferson street who took advantage of his blind, elderly landlady to the extent of stealing $4 from her drew the ire of Police Justice David R. Louis this morning when the roomer was arraigned on a charge of simple larceny.  Pleading guilty, Walter Petre drew a 15-day jail sentence to be followed by a year's probation.  Petre claimed he was drunk when he took the purse from Mrs. Mary Cullin, and denied that he passed a dollar bill on her in place of a $5 note.

- The Bay City Times (Bay City, MI), Monday, 21 August 1944:  Two probationers today were given 10-day sentences....Walter Petre, 60 pleaded guilty to a drunk and disorderly charge.  He was arrested at Linn and Midland streets Sunday morning at 2:05 o'clock by police.  He had been placed on probation July 24 after pleading guilty to a simple larceny charge of stealing four dollars from his landlady.

 

Obituary:  The Saginaw News (Saginaw, MI), Tuesday, 1 July 1958:  Petre, Walter S., 3251 Russell Street.  Passed away at 6:10 a.m. Monday at the Veterans' Administration Hospital after a four week illness.  Age 71 years.  He was born Aug. 10, 1886 in Reese, and resided in Saginaw the past 25 years.  He was a veteran of World War I, serving with 71st Engineers in the U.S. Army.  Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Fred Hitchcock, Highfalls, N.Y.; three grandchildren; also four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Lottie Shannon, Mrs. Belle Barber, Delois Petre, all of Merrill; Mrs. Grace Trahan, San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Della Kwiatkowski, Saginaw; Floyd Petre, Billings, Mont.  Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Gugel Funeral Home and will be under the auspices of Saginaw County Honor Guard.  Rev. Joseph H. Ablett will officiate, with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

Misc.:  Stamford Mirror Recorder (NY), Thursday, 27 June 1935:  Mrs. Grace Petre of Oneonta visited her aunt, Mrs. J. Bouck last week.  Mrs. Petre and Mr. and Mrs. Judson Bouck celebrated Mrs. Petre's birthday anniversary and Mr. and Mrs. Bouck's wedding anniversary last Tuesday.

 

Obituaries for the children:

Leo Malcolm Petre:  Schenectady Gazette (NY), Saturday, 4 May 1957:  Leo M. Petre, 46, of 2123 Hugh street, died yesterday in his home after a sudden illness.  Bond Funeral home will be open tomorrow after 7 p.m. and the funeral will be from there Monday at 10 a.m.  At 10:30 a Eucharist service will be celebrated in St. Paul's Episcopal Church.  Burial will be in Memory's Garden.  Mr. Petre was born in Hobart April 24, 1911.  Since coming to Schenectady 16 years ago he worked as a stock clerk at the General Electric Co.  He was a member of St. Paul's Church.  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Jessie Saxton Petre; a son, Garry Petre of Schenectady; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Hitchock of High Mills.

 

Beatrice E. Petre:  Kingston Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY), Friday, 24 April 1964:  Mrs. Beatrice Hitchcock, 50, of Stone Ridge died at her home Thursday evening following a long illness.  A native of Hobart, she had resided in Stone Ridge for the past 10 years.  Surviving are her husband, Fred Hitchcock; a son, William Hitchcock.  Funeral services will be held at the George J. Moylan Funeral Home, Main Street, Rosendale, Sunday 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Clementz, pastor of the Marbletown Reformed Church officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Stone Ridge.  Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
