Malone Farmer, Wednesday 10
January 1912: Moira: Thursday, Dec. 28th, the golden wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Peets was celebrated at their home on
East Main St. There was a big dinner and a delightful social time all around
with relatives and friends. From three to six a public reception was held. The
happy couple were presented with many beautiful gifts. Those who know these
worthy people realize that nothing is too good for them and that the greatest of
good fortune should fall to their lot.
Obituary: Adirondack News (NY), Saturday, 12 February 1916: Moira - Thomas Peets, a former resident of Moira, died at his home at Hopkins Point last Thursday, aged 81 years. He was a most highly respected man. The burial was at Brushton. He is survived by his wife and four sons, John, David, Will and Albert and three daughters, Mrs. John McCullough, Mrs. Agnes Walsh, of Moira and Mary of Hopkins Point.

Obituary: Malone Evening Telegram (NY), Monday, 18 June 1923: Death of Mrs. Thomas Peets - The people of Moira deeply mourn the loss of a venerable and beloved resident, Mrs. Thomas Peets, who passed away this morning at 6:00 o'clock at her home in that village, age 82 years, following a lingering illness. "Grandma Peets," as she was called affectionately by her hosts of friends, young and old, was one of Moira's oldest and most highly esteemed residents. Kind and sympathetic by nature, her long life was filled with good deeds and she will be greatly missed by everyone in the community. She leaves surviving the following children: Mary Peets, who had cared for her mother during her long illness, John Peets, Mrs. John McCullough, Mrs. Agnes Welch, William Peets, David and Albert Peets, all of whom are residents of Moira, except David, whose home is at Belleville, Ont. Two sisters and a brother are also living. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning from St. Mary's church at Brushton, Rev. Father O'Reilly, of Hogansburg, officiating, in the absence of Father Mahoney, pastor of the church. Interment will be in Brushton.

Marie Elizabeth Pitre: Malone Evening Telegram (NY), Wednesday, 4 March 1925: Miss Mary Peets, aged 62 years, one of the most highly esteemed and beloved residents of Moira, passed away at her home at six o'clock last evening. She had been ill several weeks but it was thought she was improving. A sudden attack of heart weakness from which all medical skill and loving administration failed, and she peacefully sank to rest. She leaves the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Agnes Walsh and Mrs. John McCullough, and John and William Peets, all of Moira, Albert Peets, of Malone, and David Peets, of Belleville, Ont. Several nieces and nephews also survive. To all the survivors much sympathy is extended. The funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church in Brushton, on Thursday morning. Interment in Brushton.
- Malone Farmer (NY), Wednesday, 11 March 1925: Brushton: Funeral services for Miss Mary Peets of Moira, were held in St. Mary’s church Thursday morning, March 5th. A Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. T.J. Mahoney, assisted by Rev. P.J. McGuinness, of Bombay, Rev. Father Bouchette, of St. Regis, and Rev. J. M. McIntyre, of North Bangor. Miss Peets’ death came as a shock to her many friends here as it was not known that she was seriously ill.
Lucie Josephine Pitre: Malone Farmer (NY), Wednesday, 14 October 1914 – At Hopkins Point, Oct. 2, Miss Jessie Peets, aged 48 years. The Chateaugay Record says: "Miss Peets had been a resident of this village for the past six years, coming here as housekeeper at St. Patrick's parochial residence when Rev. E. G. Brice took up his pastorate here. A few months ago she became ill and as time went on the malady increased in severity and she was obliged to return to her home in Moira. From the latter place she went to Hopkins Point with the hope of receiving relief, but about two weeks ago pleurisy developed and this with rheumatism around the heart soon brought on the fatal termination. The deceased made many warm and close friends during her residence in this village and the news of her death was learned with the most sincere sorrow by all. Miss Peets was a member of Court St. Helen, No. 100, D. of I., and at a special meeting of the Court held on Saturday evening a delegation was named to attend the funeral services held at St. Mary's church in Fort Covington on Monday morning, Rev. E. G. Brice being the officiating clergyman." Miss Peets was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Peets. Jessie was a nick-name her real name being Lucy Josephine. She is survived by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. Rev. Fathers Desjardins, Duffy and Mahoney assisted in the funeral services. The body was taken to Brushton for interment.
Ignace 'John A. Peets' Pitre: Fort Covington Sun (NY), March 1941: Moira Resident, Well Known Here, Dies in Hospital – John A. Peets, 75, of Moira, a native of Dundee and popularly known throughout this section, passed away at the Malone hospital Friday at 1:30 p.m., from a cerebral hemorrhage. He had recently undergone an operation there. Funeral services for Mr. Peets were held from St. Mary’s Church in Brushton at 9:30 Monday morning. Rev. Joseph E. Berard officiating, and interment was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brushton. The rites were very largely attended. The communities of Dundee and Fort Covington being represented. The deceased was born in Dundee, Que., July 28, 1865, a son of Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Peets. He attended school at Fort Covington. During his lifetime Mr. Peets engaged in many diverse business activities. For many years he conducted hotels, at Hopkins Point, Moira, and Dundee, at different times, and because of his rare affability, his genial and courteous manner was widely acquainted and had a multitude of friends. He was a blacksmith and mechanic by trade and when automobiles first came in, he entered the sales and garage business early, an enterprise in which he was successful. He was a member of the Malone Lodge of Elks and his hobby was gardening. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. J.O. McCollough, and one brother, William Peets, both of Moira. He never married.
Pierre 'Peter Nelson Peets' Pitre: Malone Palladium (NY), Thursday, 28 April 1904: The many friends of Peter Peets, of Moira, will be pained to hear that he succumbed to the ravages of tuberculosis, with which disease he had been afflicted for the past few years, on Friday of last week, aged 32 years. Mr. Peets was a member of the firm of Peets Bros., proprietors of Hotel Lawrence, Moira. He was a member of Malone Council, No. 308, Knights of Columbus, a delegation from which order attended the funeral services at Brushton on Monday.

Rosalie Pitre: Potsdam Courier Freeman (NY), Thursday, 24 April 1958: Norwood - Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Louise McCullough, 79, were held 9 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Norwood with Rev. Francis Maguire, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in Brushton. Mrs. McCullough was found dead at her home at 24 Spring St. about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 15, by her son, Donald, when he returned home from work. Dr. Henry Vinicor was called and said that death was attributed to a heart attack. The body was taken to the Buck funeral home and later returned to the family home for friends to call. Born Dec. 2, 1878 in the Province of Quebec, Mrs. McCullough was the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Taillon Peets. She married John McCullough Nov. 12, 1907 at Brushton and they spent most of their life in the Moira area where they operated the Moira hotel and, for a short time, the Hopkins Point hotel. Mr. McCullough died April 12, 1945 at Moira and Mrs. McCullough moved to Norwood in 1946 to live with her son, Donald. She was a member of Court Sancta Maria, Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar Rosary Society of St. Andrew's. She was the last of 13 children. Surviving are two sons, Harold of Ogdensburg and Donald at home; two daughters, Miss Marian McCullough, Elizabeth, N. J., and Mrs. Kurt (Frances) Siederer, N.J., and six grandchildren.

Victoire Agnes 'May' Pitre: Syracuse Herald Journal (NY), Friday, 2 February 1940: Saranac Lake, Feb. 2: Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Walsh, 59, housekeeper for the Rev. Donald S. Gallagher of Bloomingdale for the last year, who died at the Rev. Father Gallagher's residence at 5:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, will be held at Brushton Saturday, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Born in Quebec, Canada, on Feb. 22, 1880, the deceased was the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Laillon Peets. She had been a resident of the Bloomingdale-Gabriels section for many years. Surviving are two sons and a daughter of Potsdam.

Gallagher during the past year, who died here suddenly of a heart ailment at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, will be celebrated at Brushton tomorrow. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery at that village. Born Feb. 22, 1880, in Canada, Mrs. Walsh was the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Laillon Peets. Most of her life had been spent in the vicinity of Brushton and Moira, and in late years she had often stayed with her daughter, Viola Walsh, at Potsdam. Mrs. Walsh was the widow of John Walsh, brother of Joseph Walsh, caretaker at Knollwood camp on Lower Saranac lake. They were married in 1907. Mr. Walsh drowned about 25 years ago at Laconia, N.H. Surviving beside her daughter, Viola, are two sons, John of New York city and Edward of Potsdam; one sister, Mrs. John McCullough of Moira; and three brothers, Will and John Peets, both of Moira, and Albert Peets of Texas.
Edmond Guillaume Pitre: Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Wednesday, 15 February 1956: Moira, Feb. 15 - Funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 at St. Mary's church, Brushton, for William Edward Peets, 73, of Moira, partner in the former Malone and Moira and St. Regis Falls garage firm of Mahoney and Peets, who died suddenly at his home Monday night. Rev. J. A. O'Brien, pastor, will officiate. The body will be placed in the vault to await a spring burial in the parish cemetery. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. John (Rose) McCullough of Norwood. He was born in Quebec Oct. 19, 1882, a son of the late Thomas and Lucy Tallon Peets, but lived most of his life in this area. He never married. He was a partner of the late John Manoney in the garage and car service business for many years. They had garages in Malone, St. Regis Falls and Moira. After Mr. Mahoney's death several years ago, Mr. Peets gradually retired from business, selling out his interests.

David Louis 'Aloysius' Peets: Fort Covington Sun (NY): Died: Peets – On Friday morning, October 21, 1932, at Belleville, Ontario, Mr. David Peets, aged 48 years. Mr. Peets passed away very suddenly while at work as operator in the office of the Canadian National Railway at Belleville. His remains were brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. Agnes Walsh of Moira, N.Y., and funeral services were held from St. Mary’s R.C. Church at Brushton on Monday morning. Interment was made in St. Mary’s cemetery. Mr. Peets was born in Fort Covington in 1884. He later went to Moira where he was employed as telegraph operator. In July of 1908 he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Savage of Moira. For several years Mr. And Mrs. Peets have resided in Belleville. Mr. Peets was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church there and for some time had been a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Belleville council, Knights Columbus. For the past nineteen years he had been in the employ of the Canadian National Railway. Besides his widow, he leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Alice and Doris; seven sons, Leland, James, Thomas, Lawrence, Ray, Francis, and David, all of Belleville; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Walsh and Mrs. J. O. McCullough, Moira, and two brothers, John and William Peets, Moira. [Correction: Also surviving is brother Albert Peets.]
