Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 22 September 1964:  Funeral services for Simon Pitre, 77, retired farmer of Plaisance, were held at 8 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde.  Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Pitre died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday at Opelousas General Hospital.  He had been ill for six months.  Survivors are his wife, the former Lydia Andrepont of Plaisance; two sons, Emar and Ewell Pitre both of Plaisance; and two daughters, Mrs. Lee Fontenot of Grand Prairie and Mrs. Athenis Chapman of Bellaire Cove.  Also surviving are three brothers, Willie and Adam of Lawtell and Cleveland of Ville Platte; two sisters, Mrs. Azeline Vasseur of Prairie Ronde and Mrs. J. A. Latiolais of Lawtell; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 23 October 1979:  Prairie Ronde - Last rites will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church here for Mrs. Simon Pitre, the former Lydia Andrepont, 91, formerly of Plaisance, who died Monday at 3:35 p.m. at the Maison de Sante Nursing home in Ville Platte following a short illness.  Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on N. Main St. in Opelousas.  Survivors include two sons, Emar Pitre and Ewell Pitre, both of Plaisance; two daughters, Mrs. Atenif (Helen) Chapman of Pine Prairie and Mrs. Lee (Alta) Fontenot of Grand Prairie; one brother, J. A. Amdrepont of Prairie Ronde; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Adell) Bertrand of Eunice, Mrs. Stanislas (Mena) Francois of Eunice and Mrs. Sidney (Lillian) Hidalgo of Lafayette; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-grat-grandchildren.  A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Pitre.

Ewell Pitre:  Opelousas - Funeral services for Mr. Ewell Pitre, age 99, will be held oat 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.  Father Nunez will conduct the service.  Mr. Pitre was born in Prairie Ronde and was a long time resident of Plaisance.  He passed away at 8:38 a.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at his residence.  Mr. Pitre was a farmer for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors doing gardening and planting flowers.  He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend.  He was a member of the Wednesday Rosary Group which began during WWII.  He really enjoyed spending time with family and friends reminiscing the good times.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Survivors include one son, Wilfred "Fred" Pitre of Plaisance; one sister, Helen Chapman of Pine Prairie; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Bordelon Pitre; his parents: Simon and Ledia Andrepont Pitre; one sister, Elta Pitre Fontenot; and one brother, Emar Pitre.  Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, September 22, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.  On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.  A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night in the funeral home.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.

Alta Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 27 August 1998:  Grand Prairie - Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Alta Pitre Fontenot, 87, of Grand Prairie at St. Peter Catholic Church at 11 a.m. today, August 27.  Burial will follow in the St. Peter Cemetery in Grand Prairie.  Mrs. Fontenot died at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 1998, at Ville Platte Medical Center after a long illness.  She was a homemaker.  Survivors include her husband, Lee S. Fontenot of Grand Prairie; two sons, Curt Fontenot of New Iberia and Larry James Fontenot of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Mrs. Marie Enola Fontenot of St. Landry; one brother, Ewell Pitre of Plaisance; one sister, Mrs. Helen Chapman of Pine Prairie; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Curt Fontenot, Larry Fontenot, Mitchel Babineaux, Robbie Bourque and Derek Fontenot.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte will be in charge of arrangements.

Helen Pitre:  Mrs. Chapman, 89, of Pine Prairie entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in Savoy Medical Center, Mamou.  Helen was a lifelong resident of Evangeline Parish and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed by all.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Atenis Chapman; two brothers, Ewell Pitre and Emar Pitre; one sister, Elta Fontenot and two grandchildren, Chance Poncho and Sarah Deville.  Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include four sons, Lionel J. Chapman and his wife, Barbara of Ville Platte, Raylin J. Chapman and his wife, Myrna of Opelousas, Gerald J. Chapman and his wife, Linda of Pine Prairie and Ricky J. Chapman and his wife, Justine of Tyler, Texas; four daughters, Geraldine Hebert and her husband, Carl of Pine Prairie, Barbara LaFleur of Pine Prairie, Nettie Darbonne and her husband, Luke of Pine Prairie and Vicky Chapman Savoy and her husband, Dr. Greg of Mamou; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Emar Joseph Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 3 March 1997:  Washington - Funeral services for Mr. Emar Joseph Pitre, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Plaisance, died at 3:30 a.m. today (Monday, March 3, 1997) at his residence.  He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force.  Mr. Pitre was a member of the Jasper Neyland Post #209 American Legion in Washington and an usher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Esther Manuel Pitre of Plaisance; three sons, Carl Pitre of Opelousas, Tommy Dale Pitre of Baton Rouge and Kimon J. Pitre of Lawtell; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Norma) Guillory of Washington; a brother, Ewell Pitre of Plaisance; two sisters, Mrs. Elta Fontenot of Bunkie and Mrs. Helen Chapman of Pine Prairie; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  Visiting hours will be observed from 1:30 p.m. today until time of services on Tuesday.  A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.  Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
