Obituary: Opelousas - Funeral services for Mr. Ewell Pitre, age 99, will be held oat 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. Father Nunez will conduct the service. Mr. Pitre was born in Prairie Ronde and was a long time resident of Plaisance. He passed away at 8:38 a.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Pitre was a farmer for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors doing gardening and planting flowers. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a member of the Wednesday Rosary Group which began during WWII. He really enjoyed spending time with family and friends reminiscing the good times. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include one son, Wilfred "Fred" Pitre of Plaisance; one sister, Helen Chapman of Pine Prairie; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Bordelon Pitre; his parents: Simon and Ledia Andrepont Pitre; one sister, Elta Pitre Fontenot; and one brother, Emar Pitre. Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, September 22, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night in the funeral home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.

Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 16 February 1997: Washington - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Pitre, the former Mary Bordelon, 90, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here with burial in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Pitre, a resident of Opelousas, died at 12:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, in Columbia Doctors' Hospital in Opelousas. Survivors include: her husband, Ewell Pitre of Opelousas; a son, Wilfred Pitre of Opelousas; six sisters, Nita Dupre of Ville Platte, Orellia Fontenot of Washington, Bernadette Dupre of Plaisance, Evia Soileau and Mary Lou Stelly, both of Nuba, and Verlie Joubert of Bunkie; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2-10 p.m. tonight and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday. Wilfred Pitre: Wilfred "Fred" Pitre, March 27, 1931 - November 9, 2025, Plaisance, Louisiana: Funeral services for Mr. Wilfred "Fred" Pitre will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the funeral services. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will begin on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by the Plaisance Rosary Group. Visitation will continue on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. Wilfred Pitre, affectionately known as Fred, was born on March 27, 1931, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He passed away peacefully at his residence in Plaisance on November 9, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by his family. Wilfred dedicated many years of his life as the owner and operator of Washington Auto Repair, where he became a well-respected figure in the community. His expertise and commitment to quality service fostered lasting relationships with many of his customers, who came to rely on him for all their automotive needs. A proud U.S. Marine Veteran, Fred served his country during the Korean War from 1952 to 1960 in Japan. His service to his nation was a source of great pride for him, reflecting his dedication and sense of duty. In addition to his work as a mechanic and veteran, Fred was also known for his agricultural pursuits. He became a farmer, starting to plant crops that would not only provide for his family but also connect him to the land he cherished. Fred was a longtime parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church, where he found a sense of community and spiritual fulfillment. He was also a member of the Plaisance Rosary Group who met on Wednesday mornings, which began during WWII. He enjoyed sharing moments with his family, always cherishing the time spent together, which was a cornerstone of his life. Survivors include three daughters: Myra Pitre of Lawtell; Karen Pitre Ortego of Plaisance; and Tammy Pitre of Plaisance; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a special friend, Wheata Hargroder of Plaisance. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Geraldine Fontenot Pitre; son-in-law, John Kent Ortego; great-grandchild, Trinity Dianne Ortego; his parents, Ewell Pitre and Mary Alice Bordelon Pitre; and his father-in-law, Alphonse Fontenot and mother-in-law, Carrie Dupre Fontenot. He will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the love he had for his family and the impact he made in his local community. Fred leaves behind a legacy marked by hard work, dedication, and a deep-rooted love for his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
