Obituaries for the children:

Marie Celestine Pitre:  The Town Talk (Alexandria, LA), Wednesday, 17 March 1954:  Oakdale, La. - Mrs. Celestine Guillory, 76, died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 16 at her home in Oberlin.  She was a resident of Oberlin for 40 years.  She is survived by three sons, Relise, John, Nat, all of Oberlin; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Darbonne, Mary Kinser, both of Oberlin, Mrs. S.M. Cole, Houston, Tex.; one brother, Alcide Pitre, Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Nathan Chapman, Mrs. Felix Sonnier, both of Oberlin; 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. today at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic church, Oberlin.  Rev. Fredrick LaBrie officiated.  Burial was in the Oberlin cemetery under direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.

 

Marie Bathilde Pitre:  Oberlin (Spl.):  An elderly Oberlin woman was fatally burned Thursday afternoon when her clothes caught fire from a cook stove.  Dead is Mrs. Vathilde Chapman, 79.  Mrs. Chapman, who lived alone near her daughter, was found by the daughter at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.  Dr. Don R. Vesley, acting coroner for Allen parish, said that Mrs. Chapman had burns over 80 per cent of her body.  He termed the death an accident.  Funeral services were to be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Joan of Arc Catholic church in Oberlin with Father Frederick LaBrac officiating.  Burial was to be at the Durio cemetery under the direction of Ardoin-funeral home.  She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Jackson Howard, Rosie Ryder, Mrs. Savan Ryder, all of Oberlin, Mrs. Willis Ardoin of West Lake and Mrs. Wilton Richard of Lafayette: one brother, Alcide Pitre of Opelousas; ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.   [online at Find-a-Grave]

Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 9 December 1962:  Oberlin - Mrs. Bathilde Chapman, 79, of Oberlin, a sister to Alcide Pitre of Opelousas, died Thursday of burns sustained when her clothing caught fire from a cook stove.  Dr. Don R. Vesley, deputy Allen Parish coroner, said Mrs. Chapman died of burns over 80 per cent of her body.  He ruled death due to accidental causes.  Mrs. Chapman, who lived alone, apparently caught her clothing on fire as she was preparing her noon meal, authorities said.  Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Oberlin, with burial in the Durio cemetery.  Other survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Jackson Howard, Mrs. Rosie Ryder and Mrs. Savan Ryder, all of Oberlin; Mrs. Willis Ardoin of West Lake and Mrs. Wilton Richard of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Alcide Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 10 March 1966:  Alcide Pitre, 77, a retired carpenter of 809 W. South St., died at 6:50 a.m. today at a Lafayette Hospital.  He had been ill 18 months.  Pitre's body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.  He is survived by his widow, the former Anise Vige of Opelousas; five daughters, Mrs. Eraste Pitre and Mrs. Oriel Ryder, both of Oberlin, Mrs. Lawrence Forestier and Miss Ruby Pitre, both of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Lawrence Trahan of Crowley.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren.
